Welcome to the "Red Sky" Bungalow!
Cozy 1 Bedroom 1 Bath bungalow on 1/2 Acre complex! The unit is technically a duplex but completely detached from the other home on the property allowing you total privacy and tranquility. The 1/2 acre of park-like grounds surround you with horseshoes, fire pits, and a pecan tree! The bungalow (email hidden), 1 Bath with a great kitchen and a 1 car garage for storage. There is plenty of safe parking. Would be great for a couple, small family, or any young, adventurous, and active travelers. There's a deck out back with a propane grill and a washer and dryer available for your use. Bed is a queen size on a raised frame.
There is also an wonderful outdoor shower and charcoal grill.
1317 Jeffords Street is 3 miles and 5 minutes from Folly Beach.
Known as the "Edge of America", Folly Beach has great restaurants, bars and beautiful white sand beaches. Folly Beach also has some of the best surfing in the southeast.
-I have surfboards available for your use and can arrange lessons either by myself or a local surfer.
-I also have beach chairs and an umbrella for you as well.
There are restaurants, bars,a grocery store and a bank within walking distance. I have tons of local knowledge about Charleston and the surrounding areas and can offer suggestions and advice on anything you want to do while in Charleston.
The bungalow is professionally and naturally cleaned after every guest.
Come check it out and let me be your host.

  • The house was very clean, comfortable and Josh was very responsive to any questions that we had. The property was not far from the beach or Charleston and was exactly as represented.

  • Josh was very friendly and easy to get in touch with. The house was clean and had everything we needed, including beach chairs and umbrella. We enjoyed the communal boat ride with Josh's friend, Will, and thought it was very nice of Josh to coordinate for another boat to take us out on the water since his was out of commission. Great host! We would definitely stay at one of Josh's properties again.

  • We enjoyed our time in Josh's surf bungalow. We stayed for a week and the location on James Island was very convenient, about halfway between Folly Beach (~10 min) and downtown Charleston (~15 min), which allowed us to easily split our days between oceanside and the historical downtown area. There are groceries nearby for home cooking, which we did frequently.

We really appreciated the short list of recommendations of things to do in the area, which was posted on the fridge in the bungalow. We checked out Folly Beach, Kiawah Island, the Ravenel bridge, the Angel Oak, and ate fried shrimp on Bowen's Island which was a highlight for us. There were dolphins all around us and the food was delicious. We were really glad to have these insights from a local, because we might have missed those spots otherwise!

The house was comfortable, clean and quiet, a little removed from the street, and had most of the amenities we needed for two people. There were several beach chairs and we loved that there were both an umbrella and a big tent available to beat the heat on the beach. The only downsides were that we couldn't find any beach towels so had to use bath towels, and there is no indoor table to sit down at -- we had to improvise by pulling a small round coffee table near the couch for indoor eating (when it rained and we couldn't use the outdoor patio table). The outdoor table is lovely though, and comfortably shaded by trees most of the day. I was looking forward to doing some outdoor yoga, but the house is on a shared lot with two other homes, which appear to also be rented to short-term vacationers. So the grass area is not quite as private as the pictures suggest (which, in fairness, is mentioned in the description of the rental). There is no hammock outdoors anymore either, which was a bummer because we were looking forward to reading outdoors in that shady spot in the picture! Despite these very minor issues, we had an incredibly relaxing time and the house was comfortable. Also, the air conditioning worked really well (and quickly!) in 90+ degree weather.

All in all, a comfortable, affordable and convenient place to stay while visiting Charleston. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't take Josh up on the boat tour because his boat needed repairs.

    (And here's the summary version)

    --very convenient location
--comfortable for 2 people (and I could see coming here with 4 people, if you don't mind being a little cozy and sharing one bathroom)
    --great recommendations on local spots
--full kitchen with dishwasher, stove, etc
    --good price!

    --no indoor table for eating
    --no hammock or beach towels
--no boat tour (for us only!)

    Response from Josh:

Thanks for the review. Unfortunatly, the coziness of the bungalow does not allow for a full table to sit and eat. A couple days before you arrived, another guest accidentally broke the hammock. It has since been replaced. As for the yard, it is shared with one other unit, this shouldn't have prevented you from doing yoga as it is still incredible peaceful and private. But, thanks for the suggestions. Can't win em' all. :)

  • This is listing is a gem! Josh was wonderful and we had such a great time here. The house had everthign that we needed, and more!! Beach chairs, umbrellas, surf boards, boogie boards, and outside patio, outdoor shower. If you have to oppurtunity to go on the boat tour, DO NOT PASS IT UP! It was such a fun little tour, saw tons of dolphins, visited a little island that was accessible only by boat. Josh had all the info you need to make your visit to Folly well worth it. I met some of his other guests and they only had great things to stay about his other properities as well. We will definitely be back!

  • We enjoyed our stay in Charleston. This perfectly suited our needs for our trip, as it was conveniently located between Folly Beach and Charleston. We made good use of the grill/eating area in the back and the boogie boards and beach umbrella, though we were disappointed to be unable to schedule the boat ride because Josh was out of town for the weekend. Despite that, we had a lovely stay and would highly recommend it to others. It was a great place to crash after long days at the beach.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed at Josh's bungalow the second half of our weekend in Charleston.

First thing's first - take Josh up on the free boat tour if you're able! It was a huge highlight of our entire trip. Josh took us on a 2 hour tour, including a stop at a remote island beach. Awesome experience.

As for the rest - the bungalow is in a great location - super convenient to downtown (10 minutes) and Folly beach (7 minutes) and groceries (30 seconds). The garage contained beach chairs, umbrella, canopy, and surf boards. There were also fresh towels, linens, and kitchen basics for our use. The bungalow is small, but has everything we needed. The outdoor deck space and grill was perfect for an evening drink. Josh also provided some great recommendations for local restaurants, which we enjoyed.

  • Josh's Bungalow was just as he described and very close to downtown Charleston by driving! Took us 10-15 minutes and was a very painless drive. The house was nice and spacious and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've stayed on with plenty of nice fluffy pillows for both me and my husband. Josh thought of everything, he left out the wifi password, set out our towels and put the keys in an easy to find place for us.

  • My husband and I stayed at Josh's island/surf bungalow when we went to Charleston for a friend's wedding. We wanted a place that was convenient to access both downtown and the beach, and the house was PERFECT in that regard. It was a 10 minute drive to downtown, and 10 minutes to the beach. It is also really close to a great health food store similar to Whole Foods, and several other grocery stores. Josh was gracious to allow us access to his beach equipment (chairs, surfboards, etc.) which helped make our time at the beach that much more fun. The house is simple but provides all the space you need for two people. We would definitely recommend it.

  • It was easy to contact Josh and have the bungalow booked. Location is great and in a safe area, close to Folly beach and Charleston. This place has a small working kitchen and a large fridge. We enjoyed having our breakfast outside and did not use the barbecue. Wifi was good and there was TV, cable, DVD player, Stereo, etc. the bed was too soft for our liking but was clean and we had clean set of towels.

  • We stayed at Island Surf Bungalow for a week in Charleston. The house was exactly as we expected. It was very comfortable and has a beautiful setting. We were close to everything and could be in downtown Charleston in less than 20 min. and at Foley Beach in 10.

The house was totally equipped with fresh towels, linens, and kitchen items. We did not even have to buy paper towels. It was also nice to have a washer and dryer available.

Josh was a great host and we loved our tour of the marshlands. My husband loved the surfing and paddling equipment that he loaned us.

We plan to return to one of Josh's properties in the future and highly recommend his rentals.
