Description

The Fortress is Medieval-Minimalism: focusing minds and hearts on Nature, Proportion, and Beauty. Geometrically accurate and built to inspire, this space is perfect for anyone looking for solace, and a respite from the daily technological grind.

++ The "Great Hall" has a 10 ft. long handmade Tudor banquet table with a custom 80 lb. brushed steel chandelier that floats above it– all the while being encircled by glass and mountains on all sides.

++ The kitchen has new appliances: large fridge, stove, oven, toaster, coffee maker (with grinder) – and there are plenty of cooking wares, pots, pans, and utensils to muster up a proper feast.

++ There is a full master bed upstairs. Downstairs, there is a twin bed, a
study area, and a full bathroom with cast iron shower and new fixtures and appliances. (A queen air mattress is also available downstairs)
A washer and drier are available, and the house is professionally cleaned and managed.

++ Step outside to enjoy world-class hiking, swimming or skating, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, and awesome sledding! And of course, the best foliage on the globe in the fall!

++ The Fortress is not an internet hot spot but a Cold Spot– no internet here. No wifi or TV allows for a timeless experience amidst a vast sky– some of the finest stargazing in America.

++ Also please be aware that since The Fortress is a digital free zone, there is no cell reception at the house. You will need to drive down the street a little ways to get reception.

++There is a pond on the property for swimming or skating.

++ A detailed guidebook with photos, local/insider info with directions to breathtaking hikes, delicious restaurants, wholesome attractions, and much, much, more, is posted in the "Guidebook" section of this listing.

++ Check in is after 3pm and check out is 12pm. (Please note, that one night stays are possible, just please send us a message and book at least 24hrs in advance).

++ Ned can be reached at anytime via phone or email.

++ The Fortress is also located less than 30 minutes from Hanover NH and 50 minutes from Montpelier VT.

++ In less than 20 minutes you can drive to historic Vermont towns such as Strafford and South Royalton and their local markets.

++ A trip to Old City Falls in Strafford is less than a 10 minute drive, and is alone worth the visit to The North Kingdom!

++ FOUR WHEEL or ALL WHEEL DRIVE is recommended NOV - APR

++ The Fortress was designed and contracted by Thetford Vermont born architectural designer, Nicholas Fabrikant.

++ The Fortress and Vershire are not manufactured fantasies of Vermont life. They are embodiments of the Pure, unrestrained convergence of un-tamable Nature, Ancient design principles, sporting energy, and a radiant vision.

This place is a beautiful (if not more) than it looks in the photos. Pay attention to the guidebook! It's a life-saver, especially with the lack of wifi and cell service. We were somewhat unprepared for the snow (in April) and the roads (unpaved). But despite getting stuck in a ditch and getting lost for hours, our visit to Vershire was an amazing respite from New York City life. The people were extremely friendly and helpful! Again, pay close attention to the guidebook and print out maps, not only of the ride there but also of the area. The Fortress was simply stunning--well worth it!

Feeling so relaxed after a weekend at the Fortress. Off the grid without having to worry about anyone else, we enjoyed the view, the snow, good wine and homecooked meals. We would come back any time of year! Don't miss the sunrise

Terrific spot and very cool cabin with a good view. The road to the cabin was a little treacherous (it got pretty foggy and icy) while we were there. It wasn't quite as private as I had hoped. There were neighboring houses within view but we had no issues with noise. The house is beautiful and relaxing. The kitchen was well stocked and everything worked well. The ice and snow kept us from exploring the local area but the view is excellent and we took a fun ride through the country to Montpelier. Would visit again.

Overall we had a decent time at Ned's. We brought plenty of board and card games to keep us occupied while we spent time enjoying the views from inside the house. Before heading to Ned's I HIGHLY suggest printing out a town map. The only map that was in the house was one of the whole state of Vermont.. We ended up hiking the old city falls trail, which was completely breath taking, except it was very icy so we decided it wasn't really safe to hike much. The kitchen set up is a little different but make sure you bring anything that you would need, even if it is listed. We also found it a little concerning that there wasn't at least a landline phone in the house. There really was no way to get ahold of Ned, or even if there happened to be an emergency. The store in town is at least 20 minutes away and we were even in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Otherwise the views are amazing, I feel like this would be the perfect house to spend the summer in.

This was the perfect romantic getaway for my boyfriend and I. We had the most magical time. The house was perfect because it was secluded... we loved the fact that there was no wifi, cell service or television. This is a perfect escape from the hussle and bustle of every day city life. I would highly recommend this place for a peaceful getaway. Ned was extremely helpful and a wonderful host, we especially found the guidebook extremely thoughtful and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.
