  • We stayed at Alang Alang House for one month. We absolutely loved our experience in Ubud and the rest of Bali and, overall, thought this B&B was quite nice. However, there were a few things I would have wanted a heads up on before booking this place for a month.
Pros: Mr. Ketut and his family are extremely kind and helpful. Mr. Ketut is willing to help with directions, transportation, whatever you need. This is also a nice space if you want to be a little farther out of the city centre and get some relaxation time in. The breakfasts are yummy, especially the fresh assortment of fruits and the banana pancakes!
Cons: 1 month was definitely too long to be at this B&B (at least for us). I think we should've just booked a week here. You will definitely need a motorbike if you plan to visit Ubud and other destinations if you're staying here for longer than a couple days. The walls are paper thin--so make sure you bring earplugs (you can hear neighbors, roosters, frogs, etc. at all times). Also, the shower was extremely unpredictable, going from piping hot to freezing in seconds. I didn't have a single enjoyable shower experience.
All that said, this is a great place for a couple days stay to really get the jist of authentic Ubud village life. Mr. Ketut and his family make it a hospitable and genuinely nice experience. However, there are some things in wish I read about this place in the reviews before booking here for so long.

  • We stayed at Alang Alang for 4nights with my little girl 2years old.
The staff cleaned the room everyday , good breackfast, and they are very helpful.
Our stay in UBUD was very relaxable with their family.
Going to center ask taxi anytime. It takes 5mins to arrive.
If you are alone and OK for simple room, I strongly recommend ALANG ALANG
You will love this traditional balinase stay!!!
Thanks very much for Fujita-San and all ketut family.

  • alang alang homestay is a 10 minute car ride outside the city center, so, if you're looking for some quiet space away from the traffic, this is a nice option. i recommend renting a motorbike/scooter so that you can get from place to place on your own. if you're not comfortable with a scooter, you'll have to hire a driver or maybe consider other options.

as a single traveler on a budget, the promotional price is a very good deal! the breakfasts are yummy--yay! banana pancakes!--the rooms are clean, i slept soundly with the fan on and the windows open, and the service is friendly. i had offerings placed on my patio every morning and even on my motorbike! that was such a sweet gesture! i was picked up at ubud palace and the family members will help you order take-out if you'd like. also, the laundry service is convenient!

while the room is nice and spacious enough for one person, (the desk was a very nice touch!) the walls are thin, so as a word of caution/notice, if you've neighbors, you can pretty much hear them even blowing their noses! bring ear plugs. :) something i wish i had tried but didn't, was to take the offering making class...so, i hope to do so during my next trip to bali! thank you alang alang house!

  • If you think Ubud center is too crowded for you, you got to check out Alang Alang House. Tug in the Tegallalang suburb, nice, clean and cozy just 5-10 minutes away from the town center.

Mr Ketut and the family will definitely take good care of you! If you are too lazy to move, their in house kitchen ran by Mr Ketut's daughter serve super tasty food too!

  • We stayed two night and were very happy with our accommodations! The rooms and grounds were well maintained and clean. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. We slept with our windows open and the fan on and didn't get any bug bites! We rented a motorbike and visited all the temples in the area and also the Tegalalang Rice Fields with ease. The fresh fruit and banana pancakes breakfast was amazing. An added bonus was the free wi-fi was the fastest we've experienced in Bali and we were actually able to stream a video on evening after the sun went down!

  • Nice and cozy. I enjoyed my stay! All was well, especially the food.

  • Booked for a travel companion but I missed my flight so rebooked where we were staying. So, my friend didn't stay here but the manager was prompt in arriving to pick him up so that was appreciated.

  • I enjoyed my stay with Fujita, Nyoman, Ketut and their family. Alang Alang ("long rice") house is in a quiet location about a 35 minute walk north of Ubud - or a few minutes by vehicle, as nobody really walks such distances in Bali! However, if you like to walk, it's not a bad place to start out from, just be mindful of traffic and the broken sidewalks. If you head north you'll eventually come to a westward street that intersects with a more rural north-south street that passes by lots of beautiful rice paddies, a botanical garden (closed for construction) and some restaurants serving tourist dishes, like The Secret Garden Cafe (Thai). Continue south to eventually reach the bustle of Ubud. There's an Indomart convenience store located a short ways up the street where you can buy things at fixed prices..

My room was cozy, clean, and comfortable. Take a little time to examine the building's traditional construction - it's a minor marvel. You can sign up for massage and spa treatments or take a class on Balinese offerings or Cooking, too! Also each room is supplied with a generous thermos of hot/boiled water, so you can prepare tea or coffee (provided, as is breakfast) whenever you like.

Their driver, whose name I neglected to ask, is quite a nice man and speaks pretty good English to boot. On the day I left his son drove me north through the mountains to the Bali Botanical Garden, Singaraja, and eventually the ferry port of Gilimanuk. Not a bad way at all to spend my last day on Bali.
