About this listing
Looking for a romantic getaway? How about a bubble bath in a claw foot tub, a candlelit dinner you prepared together in a fully equipped kitchen, and a comfy queen bed to relax in while hearing the babbling water from a goldfish pond just outside your door? Well then come join the bohemian spirt of East Austin!
Or maybe you are in town on business and need to get a little work done before you relax? How about complimentary coffee and tea, internet access, a flat screen TV with HBO and Showtime, a verandah to sit on and enjoy your secret garden.
You may park in the driveway, but please pull up so the front house may access the granite front yard to park and please don't block them in. Go through the white unlocked gate, to the back unlocked gate with "Welcome" on it, to the white unlocked bungalow behind the main house. The yard and fish pond behind the dividing fence is yours to use. The gas grill is shared with the main house but you are welcome to use it. (It rolls.)
Interaction with Guests
I have basically a self check-in. You may come anytime after 3pm (sometimes sooner if requested). The bungalow is unlocked and the keys are hanging by the door. Just hang them back after your stay. There is a blue notebook explaining how to use things but you are always welcome to call or text me anytime day or night with issues or questions.
The neighborhood is basically safe with lots of walkers, joggers, and bicyclers. There are multiple coffee shops, restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc. within walking distance. The bus stop is less than a block away.
We are centrally located on the EAST side, just blocks from IH35 at 38 1/2, with loads of coffee shops, restaurants, stores, and parks, all within walking distance.
Need a way around? There is a bus stop just a short walk away at 38 1/2 & Cherrywood Road, check-out Capital Metro
A commuter train station a little longer walk away at:
MLK Train Station at 1719 Alexander Blvd. & MLK Blvd., check-out Capital Metro
Austin has Local Car Rental where you order their card, download an app and walk to the car and drive it away and you only pay for the time you used it... see Car2go. Austin has Uber and Lyft personal cab companies. Also lots of regular cabs some are even pedicabs (bicycle cabs that work for tips)!
The bungalow is in the back behind the main house where I live. Feel free to park in the driveway (caution: the driveway is slippery when wet) and go through the gate but please close the gate behind you. The back yard area behind the dividing fence is yours to use anytime. The gas grill is shared with the main house but feel free to use it as well. I am pet friendly and most of the time your dog may roam the entire back yard. However, if the main house is rented out please be polite to the other guest and supervise your dog. Most things are easily cleaned in case of accidents like floors, but some are not, so please keep your pets off the bed and velvet sofa. We are in an urban neighborhood so it is a bit noisy at times (train and daycare nearby) but we want to be respectful of our neighbors and not add to it. So please try to keep music/noises to a minimum after 10pm. The house was designed for two people but if you need someone else to stay I can move an additional cot in to the bungalow if requested. I would prefer no small children due to the danger of possible drowning in the pond. I have a washer and dryer in the main house if you need to run a load of your personal things and if anything needs cleaning before the end of your stay (sheets, towels, etc.) please let me know. Please NO smoking in the house but I have provided an ash tray on the verandah should you need to smoke outside.
This was my husband and my second time staying at the bungalow, and we loved it just as much as we did the first time. We'd happily stay here over and over again!
The best airbnb experience we've had to date. Trudy's guest house is spacious and adorable. I very much enjoyed all the little details of decoration and accommodation (Tea, coffee, bubble bath). Relaxing in the beautiful bear claw bathtub after packing our apartment all day was exceptionally nice!
I stayed 3 nights in the bungalow and was very happy with it! The place looks just as it does in the pictures and is even more private and serene than I imagined. I loved the koi pond and the bathtub. Trudy provides anything you can possibly need and the bungalow is very clean and efficiently set up. This place feels like a little tucked away cottage that should be out in Fredericksburg and I found myself forgetting that I was in Central Austin. It is also very conveniently located with coffee shops and restaurants very close by. I'd definitely stay here again!
This is a perfect, private, quiet, beautiful oasis in the loveliest section of Austin. It is well tended and cared for and creatively arranged for maximum natural beauty and comfort. The bungalow has everything you need and a fabulous kitchen with everything necessary to cook if you choose to do so.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Trudy's bungalow. It had everything we could
possibly need from coffee and creamer to frozen beer mugs which were perfect for when we were soaking up the sun on the patio. The claw foot tub was awesome, Trudy even provides bubble bath soap. It was a wonderful experience overall and I would highly
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Cherrywood bungalow! We celebrated our 1st anniversary there, and it was very romantic. We enjoyed the peaceful, private, pond area. The house was very neat and clean. We loved that the kitchen had everything we needed to cook breakfast in the morning! Trudy is very honest and accurate in everything she posts on airbnb. We did hear the train, but only one time. We highly recommend staying here!
Lovely bungalow, very clean and secluded. Trudy was an excellent host! We had everything we needed and she replied promptly to any question we had via email.

About the Host, Trudy
Hi I'm Trudy. I am a fifth generation Texan, originally from San Antonio and I've lived in Austin for about 5 years now. I live in the front house. I own and manage, with my daughters, the East Side Showroom. Which is a farm to table restaurant with craft cocktails, live music, silent movies and very eclectic decor. My twin daughters and I love design and architecture. One daughter lives part time here with me, and did most of the design of the bungalow. She lives part time in Guanajuato, Mexico, where she has a vacation rental that she designed and built from scratch. The other daughter has an airstream vacation rental here in Austin as well as several restaurants and a bar that she decorated and built-out. I love living in Austin, there are local urban farms and farmers markets, film studios, urban drive-in theaters, theaters (both live and film) that you can eat, drink and be a part of, tour a film studio, go dancing, go to the roller derby, go to a nudist park, golf, go swimming or toobing in spring fed pools, listen to live music, eat great food and drink awesome cocktails, local wines and local beers, go see the Texas State Capital, history museums, art museums, parks and nature trails...well you name it and I think I can "hook you up" with lots of cool places to check out during your stay!
