Looking for a romantic getaway? How about a bubble bath in a claw foot tub, a candlelit dinner you prepared together in a fully equipped kitchen, and a comfy queen bed to relax in while hearing the babbling water from a goldfish pond just outside your door?
Or maybe you are in town on business and need to get a little work done before you relax? How about complimentary coffee and tea, internet access, a flat screen TV with HBO and Showtime, a verandah to sit on and enjoy your secret garden.
Well then come join the bohemian spirt of East Austin! We are centrally located on the EAST side, just blocks from IH35 at 38 1/2, with loads of coffee shops, restaurants, stores, and parks, all within walking distance.
Need a way around? There is a bus stop just a short walk away at 381/2 & Cherrywood Road, check-out Capital Metro
A commuter train station a little longer walk away at:
MLK Train Station at 1719 Alexander Blvd. & MLK Blvd., check-out Capital Metro
Austin has Local Car Rental where you order their card, download an app and walk to the car and drive it away and you only pay for the time you used it... see Car2go. Also lots of cabs some are even pedicabs (bicycle cabs that work for tips)!
You may park in the driveway. Go through the white gate to the back white bungalow behind the main house. The yard and fish pond behind the dividing fence is yours to use. The gas grill is shared with the main house but you are welcome to use it.
Interaction with Guests
I have basically a self check-in. You may come anytime after 3pm (sometimes sooner if requested). There is a blue notebook explaining how to use things but you are always welcome to call me anytime day or night with issues or questions.
The neighborhood is basically safe with lots of walkers, joggers, and bicyclers. There are multiple coffee shops, restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc. within walking distance. The bus stop is less than a block away.
The bungalow is in the back behind the main house where I live. Feel free to park in the driveway (caution: the driveway is slippery when wet) and go through the gate but please close the gate behind you. The back yard area behind the dividing fence is yours to use anytime. The gas grill is shared with the main house but feel free to use it as well. I am pet friendly and most of the time your dog may roam the entire back yard. However, if the main house is rented out please be polite to the other guest and supervise your dog. Most things are easily cleaned in case of accidents like floors, but some are not, so please keep your pets off the bed and velvet sofa. We are in an urban neighborhood so it is a bit noisy at times (train and daycare nearby) but we want to be respectful of our neighbors and not add to it. So please try to keep music/noises to a minimum after 10pm. The house was designed for two people but if you need someone else to stay I can move an additional cot in to the bungalow if requested. I would prefer no small children due to the danger of possible drowning in the pond. I have a washer and dryer in the main house if you need to run a load of your personal things and if anything needs cleaning before the end of your stay (sheets, towels, etc.) please let me know. Please NO smoking in the house but I have provided an ash tray on the verandah should you need to smoke outside.
This was such a cute, private, wonderful retreat. It's the perfect size for a couple or three people but also great for one. It was clean and well-stocked. I loved the clear instructions left in a blue binder in the house. I would absolutely stay here again! Thanks, Trudy, for making such a welcoming space.
We loved this place. The styling is exquisite. Why would anyone ever want to stay in a corporate hotel after experiencing Trudy's gorgeous cottage? We seriously could live there. The guide, instructions and information provided was first class. The neighborhood is awesome. Amazing local joints with great people and superb food, drink and stuff! We rented bikes from along the road - what a cool bike shop. Getting downtown was easy also.
All in all Trudy and her place is the essence of Airbnb.
This was an incredible experience! It was my first time using Airbnb and it will not be my last! This was a quick uber downtown ($6-$8) and a beautiful little house! It was like my pinterest board exploded in this unique little bungalow.
Trudy left a very detailed book with any little quirks about the house (how to the shower, etc.) and was incredibly helpful. I will definitely be asking to stay with her the next time I'm in town!
The bungalow was absolutely adorable. We will definitely be staying there again and will recommend it to our friends and family. Thank you, Trudy, for a very relaxing getaway.
Absolutely loved this place!! What a charming cottage. Wonderful energy. Loved that there was a private fenced in yard. Trudy was such a great hostess. I needed a place for my sister and her pup to stay while we were finishing up a renovation project at my house here in Austin. It was perfect and will book again next time I have family in town visiting.
The Cherrywood Bungalow was the perfect home away from home during my stay in Austin. I spent most of my time downtown at a conference but it was a fairly easy bike ride and very quick Uber ride down to the conference at the Hilton Garden Inn. Trudy's home is saturated with character and I looked forward to relaxing there and sleeping to the sound of the waterfall in the fish pond every evening. The space was extremely comfortable, clean and there was much privacy throughout the weekend. Trudy was very available and offered many suggestions of ways to enjoy my time in Austin. If you stay here you should absolutely stop by the East Side Showroom (Trudy's place!) where the drinks were absolutely delicious. Trudy was a gracious host and offered clean towels and even toiletries I wasn't able to pack for my flight. I would recommend this place to anyone...perfect for one person or a couple to enjoy a relaxing stay in Austin very close to coffee shops, restaurants and an easy ride downtown.
We had a great experience at Trudy's bungalow! The space is amazing, and we truly appreciated having a fenced in area since we were traveling with dogs. Can't wait to be back in town and stay here again!

Hi I'm Trudy. I am a fifth generation Texan, originally from San Antonio and I've lived in Austin for about 5 years now. I live in the front house. I own and manage, with my daughters, the East Side Showroom. Which is a farm to table restaurant with craft cocktails, live music, silent movies and very eclectic decor. My twin daughters and I love design and architecture. One daughter lives part time here with me, and did most of the design of the bungalow. She lives part time in Guanajuato, Mexico, where she has a vacation rental that she designed and built from scratch. The other daughter has an airstream vacation rental here in Austin as well as several restaurants and a bar that she decorated and built-out. I love living in Austin, there are local urban farms and farmers markets, film studios, urban drive-in theaters, theaters (both live and film) that you can eat, drink and be a part of, tour a film studio, go dancing, go to the roller derby, go to a nudist park, golf, go swimming or toobing in spring fed pools, listen to live music, eat great food and drink awesome cocktails, local wines and local beers, go see the Texas State Capital, history museums, art museums, parks and nature trails...well you name it and I think I can "hook you up" with lots of cool places to check out during your stay!
