We just spent a wonderful week at the Freeport Cottage. Off the main road and surrounded by tall trees, the setting was peaceful and private, with a wall of windows perfectly framing the landscape. At the same time, Freeport was only moments away - lobster pounds, shopping, Maine Beer Company - and a small sandy beach down the street. The Cottage fit two adults, two children and our small dog comfortably. Marion surprised us with a basket of goodies from the Farmer's Market and essentials stocked in the fridge. The kids loved going out on the boat with our hosts who were so friendly and welcoming. Highest recommendation!
Our stay at this Freeport Cottage was great. Marion made us feel very welcomed and even left us some food and wine in the refrigerator. She was also helpful with recommendations for restaurants and activities nearby. The Cottage is clean and comfortable and, as others have said, as good as the pictures if not better. The property is beautiful and secluded yet close to everything and it was great to be able to bring our dog with us on vacation.
The views are fabulous and there is water access with permission as described but it does require going through the yard of the hosts and very close to their home. Marion gave us permission to access the water for paddle boarding but we did feel as though we were intruding by going back and forth from the cottage to the water.
There is a small public water access (Sandy Beach) within walking distance which we used for swimming however it is far to carry paddle boards or kayaks to that location.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and recommend this cottage as a nice retreat in a beautiful location.
Everything about our weekend stay at Marion's Freeport Waterfront Cottage was magical. It exceeded our lofty expectations by leaps and bounds.
Marion greeted us upon arrival with warmth and hospitality, as did her two golden labs. The cottage is exquisitely designed with a 30-foot cathedral ceiling in the living room and two-stories of windows that face the waterfront. The entire cottage is immaculate and yet warm and cozy. Marion generously stocked the fridge with some essentials and lest some much-appreciated wine and jam for us as well. We felt at home immediately.
There were so many added bonuses to our stay. Just a tour around Marion's exquisite garden was treat enough. I came away with so many inspired ideas for what might look good in my garden back home.
The cottage is located about two miles from all the shopping in Freeport and yet you feel blissfully removed from that activity in this oasis nestled in the woods. If there was the option to award more than five stars I would do it.
We had a wonderful time at this location. Fresh cinnamon bread, homemade sugar cookies, and other goodies were awaiting our arrival. We enjoyed kicking up our feet and relaxing in this comfortable sun filled cottage. The hosts were very friendly and always a short walk or phone call away!
We' ve had a very busy few months and were looking forward to a quiet and beautiful spot to rest and recuperate, if only for 2 nights-did we ever find it!
Marion and Corky kindly postponed their departure so that we could meet. They are a charming and welcoming couple, full of advice and ideas on walking, eating, shopping and exploring-wonderful hosts!
We came at dusk and the next morning we awoke to this beautiful place. The main room has very high windows, that draw your eyes up into the tops of the impressive pine trees that surround the cottage. As the sun rose it caught the very top of the trees and moved down to bathe the cottage in its light, from there we could look out to the harbour.
The cottage is exactly as it is photographed-if not more so! It is spotlessly clean and perfectly equipped with everything you need to make it a home away from home.
It is in a perfect location for exploring, shopping, walking-or just doing nothing!!
We will come back again!
Marion was very welcoming and had the cottage opened up for us. The cottage and setting were accurately represented on airbnb. We were hosting a bridal shower/dinner and our guests were all favorably impressed with location and charm of the cottage.
Our stay at Freeport Waterfront Cottage was wonderful. The furnishings, design and space was unique, clean and comfortable with an overall ambiance of peace and quiet. The great room downstairs is the perfect place to lounge and play games or just sip coffee with a peekaboo view of the water. The property and home are truly beautiful, even nicer than the photos.
Marion was a very responsive and accommodating host. She generously left us some goodies: milk, bread, homemade blackberry jam, orange juice, coffee, and beer - the essentials, really! She also gave us a courtesy call during our stay to ensure we settled in nicely. Highest regards to Marion for her hospitality!
It was about a 10 minute drive to downtown Freeport, where we went for some shopping and visited the famous L.L.Bean boot. The 30-minute drive to the Old Port in Portland was pleasant too; with all of the colors changing on the leaves, even the freeway was a beautiful sight! We stopped in the Old Port for some of the best, freshest seafood ever and loved the quaint, narrow cobblestone streets. Everywhere we went from the Cottage was an easy commute. Although we spent most of our time at our family's reunion in nearby Yarmouth, we couldn't wait to get back to the Cottage because it was just so perfect.
About the Host, Marion
My husband and I have lived in Maine for 20 years, built two homes on our property in South Freeport along the Harraseeket River. We love the outdoors, and love to travel. We have a warm and inviting home, and 12 acres of beautiful woods along the water. We have always owned dogs, and currently live and travel with our two labs. In the winter, we travel to Boca Grande FL to chase the sun and warmth. But we always miss our home in Maine. Other favorite destinations: St.Andrews NB Canada, Desbarats, Ontario Canada.
