We had a wonderful time at this location. Fresh cinnamon bread, homemade sugar cookies, and other goodies were awaiting our arrival. We enjoyed kicking up our feet and relaxing in this comfortable sun filled cottage. The hosts were very friendly and always a short walk or phone call away!
We' ve had a very busy few months and were looking forward to a quiet and beautiful spot to rest and recuperate, if only for 2 nights-did we ever find it!
Marion and Corky kindly postponed their departure so that we could meet. They are a charming and welcoming couple, full of advice and ideas on walking, eating, shopping and exploring-wonderful hosts!
We came at dusk and the next morning we awoke to this beautiful place. The main room has very high windows, that draw your eyes up into the tops of the impressive pine trees that surround the cottage. As the sun rose it caught the very top of the trees and moved down to bathe the cottage in its light, from there we could look out to the harbour.
The cottage is exactly as it is photographed-if not more so! It is spotlessly clean and perfectly equipped with everything you need to make it a home away from home.
It is in a perfect location for exploring, shopping, walking-or just doing nothing!!
We will come back again!
Marion was very welcoming and had the cottage opened up for us. The cottage and setting were accurately represented on airbnb. We were hosting a bridal shower/dinner and our guests were all favorably impressed with location and charm of the cottage.
Our stay at Freeport Waterfront Cottage was wonderful. The furnishings, design and space was unique, clean and comfortable with an overall ambiance of peace and quiet. The great room downstairs is the perfect place to lounge and play games or just sip coffee with a peekaboo view of the water. The property and home are truly beautiful, even nicer than the photos.
Marion was a very responsive and accommodating host. She generously left us some goodies: milk, bread, homemade blackberry jam, orange juice, coffee, and beer - the essentials, really! She also gave us a courtesy call during our stay to ensure we settled in nicely. Highest regards to Marion for her hospitality!
It was about a 10 minute drive to downtown Freeport, where we went for some shopping and visited the famous L.L.Bean boot. The 30-minute drive to the Old Port in Portland was pleasant too; with all of the colors changing on the leaves, even the freeway was a beautiful sight! We stopped in the Old Port for some of the best, freshest seafood ever and loved the quaint, narrow cobblestone streets. Everywhere we went from the Cottage was an easy commute. Although we spent most of our time at our family's reunion in nearby Yarmouth, we couldn't wait to get back to the Cottage because it was just so perfect.
This cabin is marvelous, just as the pictures show. The sort of cozy place one could settle into with a good book and spend lots of quiet time. Marion and Corky (and the lovely dogs) were excellent hosts, available but not intrusive. They invited us for a short ride in their boat out to see the islands offshore, making us feel like we were real "Mainers" just visiting some friends. Our 3 days were spent both in Portland, a really quick ride away, and around Freeport. None of us are shoppers, so the outlets were not a major attraction. We did find (with help from Marion) some good food, and some nice little walks near the cabin. I highly recommend this cabin, and Maine in the fall, to everyone.
Our stay at the Freeport Waterfront Cottage was wonderful. If you've never been to the coast of Maine this is a great place from which to explore it. It's far enough up the coast to be within striking distance of the dramatic beaches yet close enough to Portland to have access to all the great food and pristine towns. Marion was a warm and gracious host and very responsive to anything that came up. We were greeted with delicious home made jam and a bottle of rose. What more can you ask for?
This is a gorgeous cottage located close to the water. The dramatic wall of windows offers a water view through the trees. It is a very short drive to Freeport, a bit longer to Bowdoin (20 min). The cottage feels private and is situated on lovely grounds. Inside there is lots of attractive, comfortable seating, and a spacious kitchen with adjoining dining area. We had wonderful meals on the lovely screened in porch. Canoeing and swimming from the dock were were lots of fun. The cottage was beautiful, tranquil and comfortable. It made for a wonderful vacation. Serious chefs might want to bring their own knives/cooking essentials. We were sad to leave!
My husband and I have lived in Maine for 20 years, built two homes on our property in South Freeport along the Harraseeket River. We love the outdoors, and love to travel. We have a warm and inviting home, and 12 acres of beautiful woods along the water. We have always owned dogs, and currently live and travel with our two labs. In the winter, we travel to Boca Grande FL to chase the sun and warmth. But we always miss our home in Maine. Other favorite destinations: St.Andrews NB Canada, Desbarats, Ontario Canada.
