An 800 square foot cottage apartment that is quiet, scenic, and beautiful. It's a private space and yet in minutes you are at some of the best restaurants in some of the greatest neighborhoods Portland has to offer.
Large bedroom with excellent lighting. Over looks the garden with rasberries, blueberries and vegetables.
Located in one of Portland’s most desired neighborhoods, this cottage inspired space is perfect for anyone wanting to explore the best that the city has to offer. This apartment features a private entrance to the lower level of a single family home where you will have 800 sqft to call your own. You’ll have your own kitchen, laundry room, full bathroom, large master bedroom and living room with a fireplace. And the technology is here too with free WIFI access and an Apple TV that is always streaming Netflix and Hulu Plus along with movies using your Apple ID.
What our space is great for:
1) People wanting to come and have a quiet vacation, with the option of being close to a lot of great neighborhoods if the mood arises to grab a great bite to eat. We have a fireplace and many stay just to read a book and relax.
2) Parents coming and visiting their adult children who live in Portland. A large percentage of our guests fall within this demographic so the space is well suited.
3) Small families traveling to Portland to experience everything we have to offer here, (especially around food & drink). Another large portion of the people who stay with us are small families and I am more than happy to point people in the right direction based on the experience they are after.
We've been hosting for a little over a year and a half now and we find that our place isn't great for travelers looking for:
1) A place they can be loud, in a neighborhood that is also loud. There are a lot of awesome neighborhoods in Portland that are focused on night life. Tabor isn't one of those neighborhoods. All of our neighbors, including my wife and are, are generally pretty quite and that is something that is important to us. Hosting is a great privilege for us and we want to make sure to keep the support of our great neighbors.
2) If you are not familiar with traveling through Airbnb and expect more of a hotel experience. There is nothing wrong with a hotel, and there are some cool ones near downtown Portland, but that experience is very different than Airbnb. You're staying in a house, and like every house, there are moments of character. Things happen from time to time, (power going out, over loading a circuit, things of that nature) and you are in a neighborhood, not in the Pearl or Downtown. Airbnb is driven by the community and we are excited to be a part of it. We're always here to help but if you want a less personal experience, our space might not be the best fit for your stay while in Portland.
We set up a second bedroom space in response to parents who wanted a separate room for their kids to stay in, (we completely understand the desire to have a space separate from the the children, especially while on vacation). The room is small, and although it was set up with children in mind, 20-somethings and 75-year-olds alike have stayed there and have had a great time. It's a good place to sleep for the night, not nearly as nice as the master bedroom.
Our home is on a quiet dead-end street and is a five-minute walk to excellent restaurants and coffee shops and is a longer walk or quick car or transit ride to the Hawthorne neighborhood. Interested in a walk, run, bike ride or picnic? The entrance to Mt. Tabor Park is three blocks from the apartment. The apartment can hold three guests comfortably; we have one queen bed and and one twin bed.
We have lived in Portland our entire lives and absolutely love everything the city has to offer. We love running, hiking, cycling, skiing, fly fishing and eating so if you need any recommendations or help, we are more than happy to assist you in any way we can. We also value your privacy so if you don’t need anything from us, relax and enjoy the quiet surrounding.
We will meet you at the apartment to exchange keys and help provide any direction or helpful tips for your stay.
Interaction with Guests
We're pretty available to help with anything our guests need but also very much respect your privacy. Really it will be up to you. If you don't need anything you won't see us after the exchange of keys, but if you need some direction we're here to help. For guests staying longer than 2 weeks, I will also set a time that is convenient to clean the apartment. It's good for you (because we'll clean it up) but it also helps us stay on top of things as we usually have guests checking out and checking in on the same day.
The best part about our neighborhood is how quiet it is and how close it is to all of the great neighborhoods on the Eastside of the city. We are two blocks away from Mt. Tabor, which is one of the best city parks around. You will have a sense of being up in the forest while still having breathtaking views of Mt. Hood to the east, downtown Portland to the west and the Gorge foothills to the north.
We are right above the Montavilla neighborhood which has some really great restaurants and excellent beer and spirit opportunities. A five minute walk drops your right in the heart of Montavilla so you don't have to go far to experience some of the best of what Portland has to offer. And, don't forget about the Montavilla Farmers Market... It's one of our favorites!
Getting around from our cottage inspired apartment is quite easy. The 15 bus line is two blocks from the apartment takes you through some of the best neighborhoods on the Eastside while dropping you off at the border of the Pearl, Downtown, 23rd Ave and Forest Park. Truly, it doesn't get much better.
Driving is pretty easy here in Portland as well. If you bring your own car, we have ample street parking but we also have Car2Go here in Portland. Walk to a car, pick it up, drive where you want to go within the Portland boundary, park it on a public street, (for free) and you're done. When you want to come back, just repeat, (gas is paid for as well).
If you are a fan of cycling, we are near a few major bike boulevards, meaning traffic is light and the speed limit is 20 MPH. These streets will take you all over Portland safely, quickly and pretty quietly as well.
Other Things to Note
We will do anything to make your stay a comfortable one. In the winter I stock the apartment with Juniper in the wood burning fireplace and we always try to leave a few fun things for our guests to welcome them to Portland.
IMPORTANT: Please do not ring our doorbell... My wife often has to sleep during the day and ringing the doorbell is a gateway to unpleasantness, (Would you want your cardiac critical care nurse working on you after a big interruption in sleep?) In advance, we greatly thank you! :) In your itinerary through Airbnb you will receive my contact information, and like any good 30 something Portland professional, my phone is glued to me. Please call or text me, I will be happy to help!
We try to be clean and quiet as much as possible and we hope our guests extend that same courtesy to us.
We encourage you to use the apartment and its appliances as you see fit. We'll be cleaning after your stay is over but we hope that you would treat the living space as you would your own by loading the dishwasher and washing out any pots and pans you use.
I should point this out when you arrive as well, but please don't lock the handle of the door to the apartment while you are here, just use the deadbolt. I should remind you of this in person as well but just in case it's important to note. When we moved in to the house we found a mason jar filled with keys, none opened the handle to the door. Thanks!
Adam was a great host. Super responsive and very helpful. The cottage is a great place to stay in the MT. Tabor neighborhood, close to the fab hikes up the volcano and neighborhood bars and shopping. Easy to Navigate.
We had everything we needed, some of the things that were great, a little backyard area, a kettle, access to washer dryer, Netflix.
The cottage has a lot of space so you feel very comfortable there, not squashed at all. There is even an area with a desk to work which was great. We would definitely stay here again... Thank you Adam!
Adam was a terrific host, easy to communicate with and always available if we needed anything. The place was spacious and clean, and we liked all the little updates. The neighborhood was lovely, perfect for walking around and enjoying the sunshine.
Adam was a great host. His place was clean and ready for us upon arrival, even after some changes in our travel plans beyond our control. His listing was accurately described, and the location was incredible! We had three people stay comfortably here and would highly recommend it to a small group or family.
What a wonderful home like space to spend a weekend in a fun city! This home is spacious yet cozy feeling, well decorated, and had all we needed! Adam was kind and ensured we had no troubles or additional concerns , he even supplied a list of fun suggestions for our trip! Very friendly ! The cold Portland nights were well heated and the entrance was fully separated from the main house to ensure we could come and go without disturbing anyone. It very much felt our own little home away from home! Hope to stay again the next time I am traveling through portland!
My husband and I spent a week at the Cottage Inspired Mt Tabor. This was our first use of AIRBNB and I must stay we were very pleased with our accommodations. We found the pictures very accurate and the accommodations as described. For us it was great to have the second bed as my husband had a terrible cold and so I was able to get my rest by moving to the other bed. The cottage was very clean, quiet and comfortable. Our daughter lives about 2 miles away and we enjoyed a very nice walk through Mt. Tabor to her house. We also walked to the Mantavilla area which was very convenient. The cottage was very conveniently located near our favorite restaurant on Division. On our return visits to Portland we would definitely consider staying here again.
It was great meeting the both of you, and I am sorry your husband was sick. Thanks for the feedback on getting a lamp and a side table for beside the couch. That is on the top of my list to get next to make the space a little bit more comfortable. I hope traveling home went well!
The spacious apartment is in a quiet neighborhood and close to public transportation. Adam was a good host, sharing information upon request and addressing our needs. There is wifi, along with a washer & dryer. Kitchen utensils sufficient for most cooking that one wants to do. Adam and his wife are working to make some improvements to the space as time and finances allow.
Adam's place was very comfortable, quaint, and spacious! A really cute mix of vintage charm and more modern furniture/amenities. I stayed there for two nights with my husband and infant daughter, and we had a great time. Adam was very friendly and hospitable and did everything he could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. He even left us a bottle of wine to welcome us upon arrival! We loved the openness of the kitchen, dining, vestibule, and living room areas and the spaciousness of the master bedroom. Although the second bedroom is quite small, it was perfect for our little girl. The apartment is a short walking distance to some very cute shops and restaurants. A wonderful experience all around!
We love all things outdoor. In the Summer there isn't a better place to hike, bike and run than Portland. And after a day of exploring the Columbia River Gorge or running through the scenic neighborhoods, there is nothing better than stopping by the Brewery District for a hand crafted beer or Distillery Row for a whiskey tasting.
Winter is an excellent time to be here as well. We love skiing and relaxing at the historic Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood along with eating at some of the most recognized and awarded restaurants in the US. Portland boasts one of the most diverse food scenes in any city, which is one of the reasons we love it here so much. And of course Portland wouldn't be complete without a compilation of fantastic coffee shops, which we frequent often.
We love this house on Mt. Tabor because of its location to the park and amenities, plus it has everything we need to share our space with guests. Elissa and I have travelled all over the world and stayed at a lot of places so we strive to make your stay here as comfortable as possible.
We'll be available if you have any questions or needs but we also are all about respecting privacy, we want you to have an excellent time while you stay in Portland.
