Welcome to the beautiful island of San Cristobal!!!!
Here on the lagoons of San Cristobal we have a nice little jungle hut for one or two, right above the water.
Happy inspiring environment PERFECT for the adventurous soul! Rustic living style where you can choose to be with, or away from technology! (yes, we have Wifi!) The island has no roads or electricity but we do have solar panels and clean rainwater on tap! As soon as you awake you can take a dive into the ocean from a peter pan style diving board right off the front of the cabin.
Beneath you, there is lots of marine life: the water is teeming with our pet fish, swarms of sardines, starfish, sea cucumbers, anemones, dolphins (see them during the day, hear them at night), amazing coral and bioluminescent plankton at night!
Downstairs you have a kitchen with refrigerator, stove, blender and running fresh water and a gas barbecue on the deck. Note: self catering is possible, but seen our location stocking up is quite a mission. Therefore we offer deliciously prepared meals for our guest on request: breakfast 8usd pp, lunch 10usd pp and dinner 15usd pp.
There is a freshwater shower (biodegradable soap only, please!) at the cabin, and the composting toilet is a 2 minute walk, on the land. The kitchen is offers fantastic sea views. Here you are literally cooking on the sea. This kitchen and the common area around can be shared with guests staying in the other room we have on the dock. For more privacy, you can ask a quote to rent both rooms on the deck (upon availability) via https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/919910
Bookings for larger groups (up to 14 people) are possible via:
TONS of awesome stuff to do! This place is absolutely incredible. Take a dip in the crystal clear agua, go for an early morning kayaking adventure, attempt to smash open a coconut with a machete, jump on the water trampoline!!! :), work while being in an inspiring environment, munch on guaba (tastes like bubblegum),...
A 5 minute boat ride (or half an hour kayak or an hour swim :-)) takes you across the bay where you can buy (limited!) extra supplies from a local shop or a local organic Indian farm or even an Austrian restaurant which is open on Friday and Sunday and offers a great opportunity to meet locals and expats in a great atmosphere. Another local Afro-Caribbean restaurant offers simple daily meals (fried chicken) or if you order on time they cook on demand (rice, beans, chicken and freshly caught fish).
A 30-minute each way, $70 round trip boat ride will take you to the town of Bocas del Toro, which has over a dozen bars and restaurants, a fun backpacker party scene, some very good food, some not-so-good food, an airport, several small supermarkets, local fruit and vegetable stands, and lots of local color and diversity. A similar boat trip will take you to the mainland (Almirante), a jumping off point for extended trips to Panama's incredible cloud forest or Costa Rica.
Yep...There's much to do and see and experience!!
There is a minimum stay of 3 nights for this cabin..(we have 3 on site) because of the transportation costs by boat.
NOTE: The cleaning fee includes your share in the transportation costs. The rest is covered by us.!!!
!!! IMPORTANT: THIS IS A RUSTIC PLACE, NOT A RESORT !!!
It's for the adventurous, who want reasonable comfort in a remote setting, and want to experience realities of rural life in the tropics. In addition to the abundant pleasures of the lush forests and reefs, you should expect to…..
TEST YOUR SELF-RELIANCE: You will have people come by selling you fish they just caught, and then learn that you have no idea how to clean it, and that that makes a giant mess. Salt water, humidity and the jungle may wrestle with you for control of the electronics, hardware, and other goods we've provided. Get ready to be a little MacGuyver — and speak up if you have questions or problems!
GO OFF GRID: You will run out of running water if you take long showers or if the rains don't come. The solar panels are backed with batteries, but you'll need to remember to turn off lights and fans when not in use — especially when the clouds hang out for a few days. The Internet is fast and reliable.
WEAR BUG PROTECTION: Generally there are less bugs and mosquitos on the dock than inland. Around dusk and dawn chitras (sand fleas or no-see-ums) might show up. Mostly this lasts not longer than half an hour and they are more perseverant when it's wind still. In bed and in the kitchen you won't be bothered. We use chitraproof netting.
If this still sounds awesome, come check this out! We will pick you up, and make sure you have what you need to enjoy your stay.
DELIGHTFUL EXTRAS !!!
Some of our guests have enjoyed the following extras, so we thought we'd share them with you!
• DOLPHIN WATCHING in Dolphin Bay by sunset or sunrise. A private experience with more than a good chance to approach dolphins very closely with our SUP-board from our panga. $30/trip.
• SNORKELING/PARADISIACAL BEACH/DOLPHIN
WATCHING: boat tours to Islas Zapatillas & Coral Cay, or Red Frog beach passing through Dolphin Bay twice with a very good chance to spot dolphins. ($50/person, whole day, tour discount as from 3 persons)
• FARM TOURS: visit a local farm and learn more about the local vegetables & fruits or visit a chocolate farm ($10 to $15/person, including boat ride)
• OTHER TOURS: upon request
• MEALS: breakfast 8usd pp, lunch 12 pp, dinner 15pp. Only fresh and mostly local ingredients, prepared with love!
See you soon!
Cleaning fee includes pick up and drop off by boat from town (30 min ride).
The boat is an open panga 27,5 feet with an outboard engine and can transport up to 18 people.
You're welcome to use any of the toys (kayaks, snorkeling gear, aquaskipper, water trampoline) but please leave them in the same or better shape as you found them.
Help yourself to any fruit you find on the farm (but ask if you're not sure what it is :)
Extra trips to town $70.
Please be responsible with electricity use (if there is no sunshine for a couple of days, batteries can run low).
Likewise, but less critically, with water. The tanks last for about a month with no rain, which almost never happens, but leaving a faucet running overnight is a really bad idea.
The magical reef cabin is truly magical! We loved to stay in this beautiful place with lovely hosts and amazing food service. You can see Dolphins, Rays and a bunch of colorful fish at the coral reef right underneath the house! Enjoy jumping off the plank every morning, right out of your bed!
My experience here it was awesome, that´s is one of the best places I have been, if you want to sleep upstairs the fishes, corals and get out of bed just jump into the water.... that´s the place..Im miss that..
Lazare and Judy are the best hosts, they are friendly, the communication by email or in person was excellent, we went to a excellent restaurante by boat with them (is the only transport from the house) Lazare showed me the property and Jody is the master chef!! try the Jody´s breakfast..
I hope to back there soon. Im waiting for you guys to ride in the Andes Mountains you have a house In Santiago. A big hug.
Our stay at the Magical Reef Cabin exceeded all of our expectations. Waking up every morning and jumping off the diving board into beautiful clear blue waters was truly magical.
Lazare and Jody were unbelievable hosts. Every meal they made for us was amazing and was always something different. Their easy going personalities made the experience so relaxing.
We did a day trip with Leo, along with all the guests on the property at the time. He took us to a great snorkelling spot and then to another island with the most beautiful pristine beaches. We all really enjoyed this day.
If you are looking for rest, relaxation, beautiful scenery, unbelievable food and a vacation different from the norm, you will enjoy this place greatly.
Thank-you Lazare and Jody !!
Hola! For my last college spring break trip, my friend and I decided to travel to Panama for a more idle/beach/nature experience rather than the hustle and bustle of city life or raging undergraduate students. I can say the decision to stay in the magical cabin reef may have been our best decision yet! Not only did our hosts cook us amazing meals from different cultural backgrounds, they also engaged in deeper conversation with us. Without having to travel to a museum in the city, my friend and I were able to learn about the indigenous culture and history of the surrounding people as well as the development of the island we stayed on. As an inquisitive student, I learned a lot about myself and questioned my plans for the near future. Idle time, the sun and the diving board helped out a lot as well.
In short, I would highly recommend this location to anyone; especially if you are under the care of these welcoming hosts!
I've always dreamed of staying in a cabin which I could dive out the window into clear waters, and my dream came true! Add a a great kitchen, deck and lush jungle and WOW! I couldn't believe it, this place defines paradise.
What an experience. There really aren't words to describe the feeling of sitting on the end of the dock, with the early morning sun warming you and the sound of nature all around greeting the new day.
Stand-up boarding to gently start the day's activities, catch a fish, or hit the beautiful clear water for a swim or snorkel.
Explore the grounds with Leo to see cacao, plantains, pineapples and more growing, or sloths and iguanas.
Day trips are available though for our stay we remained on site, cooking on the barbecue, relaxing and reading or leaping off the diving board!
I had thought that the board was integral to this particular room, however it is available to all - the tent-style room is small so the other room in the reef cabin may be preferable to some.
Staying here makes you more aware of your environment and more accepting of the role of insects, lizards and more if you're a little sensitive to them generally. You'll hear rustles and movements at any hour especially overnight, but you get used to it, as you do the composting toilet which isn't a difficult experience at all.
Lazare was helpful with all info in advance (though he wasn't there at the time) and Leo and family were on hand to guide and assist. A special mention to Capitan the dog, your protector, guide and assistant (and Candy his playful tormentor!).
Even if you think this isn't for you (my wife was of this mind in advance), try it and you may surprise yourself. We both enjoyed this break from our norms of travel and the countless number of new experiences and memories gained.
