The place was very nice. It is a bit further from grounds than we expected, but on the whole it was a good experience.
An inspiring and beautiful evening spent at Gavin, Jessica and Avery's home in the trees. We visited with the goats and chickens before a quick drive to Blue Mountain Brewery for the breathtaking sunset which Gavin recommended. Slept well and woke early for coffee overlooking the homestead. Hope to be back for a longer visit in the fall! Thanks Gavin!
We loved our stay at Gavin's place. We loved their beautiful backyard (at night, it was even more beautiful with fireflies!), cute little pond (with an amazing number of tadpoles!) and animals. Especially our two-year boy thoroughly enjoyed the new nature experience.
And their guest house where we stayed was very nicely maintained and cozy, and had everything we needed!
And most of all, Gavin was one of the most generous and nicest host we've met through Airbnb. He was very responsive, and was on top of everything. We wished we could stay longer, and definitely will go back if we visit that area again.
I felt very welcome at Gavin's farmhouse retreat. He had food ready to go in the fridge, pamphlets for information on the area and a very spacious, cleanly area. The Airbnb description of the place holds true in person. It's a lovely area and is in good proximity to breweries, wineries and trails. I highly recommend this place.
Gavin was a great host and was excellent in his advance communications. The place was very much a relaxing retreat. We were on a trip that combined Charlottesville, Monticello, and the surrounding farms and vineyards and this place was very convenient to all of this. Gavin gave us an excellent recommendation for dinner as well. Especially impressive was the fact that Gavin built the place himself. We would most certainly stay here again and it does not surprise us at all to see so many similar reviews and high ratings.
We had a wonderful stay at Gavin's romantic farmhouse retreat. It was even more beautiful and interesting that it appears on the site. Gavin stayed in touch before we arrived, responding to requests for restaurant recommendations and day hike ideas. He and his wife met us when we arrived and showed us around the guesthouse and farm. The entire property is beautiful and very well maintained. The guesthouse is immaculate and beautifully (email hidden)e kitchen was stocked with lots of coffee and tea options, milk and other drinks in the refrigerator, and snacks. My favorite part was seeing his animals -- his fat, healthy chickens and rooster pecking around the yard when we arrived and being able to go in the goat enclosure to say his to his three goats. We even got to see week old chicks. The farmhouse is in a great location, an easy drive into Charlottesville, Crozet, or the brewery/restaurants on Rtes 250 and 151. We are definitely looking forward to visiting again.
About the Host, Gavin
We are a happy family of three and live on the outskirts of Charlottesville and Ivy, VA. We are lucky to be surrounded by many trees and animals on our humble, mountainside retreat. We have two dogs, a cat, many fish, many chickens and four goats. We are outside people, always working on the yard or gardening. We like hiking, walking and whitewater river rafting. We love meeting new people!
