Bob was extremely gracious with us and it was a pleasure to be hosted by him. He picked us up and dropped us off at the airport as a matter of course. He gave us many valuable tips and was always available to book any activities we were interested in. He checked on us daily to see how we were getting on and was great to chat with. Bicycles were available and he even provided us with a motorcycle when the local rental guy finished his.
The house is charming and well furnished. The location is close to the airport and a bit out of town. The use of the bike was essential and made our stay very comfortable and flexible.
Bob kindly picked us up at 6.00 in the morning, way beyond the call of duty ! He also took us to the bus station on departure day. The house and location are exactly as described. The houses are spacious and set in a wonderful jungle garden. Heavy, solid Thai furniture throughout. The bathroom needs updating but, to be honest, the price is so reasonable that I feel quality versus price is excellent. It's about 15 mins from Chiang mai and, as others have mentioned, it's easy to take the mini bus and fun too. Bob also booked a wonderful trek up to the mountain villages to visit an elephant sanctuary , run by the Burmese / Thai villagers themselves which I found very genuine and not touristy as I had expected. We went in the rainy season so in general there is little tourism in comparison to other times of the year. We took bikes ( they need an overhaul !) to the nearby village , famous for their wood carving both of objects as well as some gorgeous furniture. Sometimes we ate locally in the 2 or 3 restaurants round the corner. We enjoyed being outside Chiang Mai as the location is quiet. Bob's dogs are well behaved and very friendly but if you don't like dogs then this is not for you...
Having survived a grueling 21 hrs from Luang Prabang by coach,we were eager to get to Hang Dong. Bob met us at Chiang Mai, picked us up & drove us home. What a wonderful surprise....in the middle of Hang Dong city was this amazing tropical oasis. He had built these awesome teak houses & each one was unique with antique furniture & artifacts. Each came with a bathroom with hot water & a fully equipped kitchen...fridge, gas cooker & utensils. A washing machine was at your disposal & each room had air con & fans. Home away from home....he provides you with clean sheets & towels every few days. It is not for everybody....if you are looking for room service & somebody to clean & make your bed then this is not the place for you....you are looking for a hotel or a resort.
Bob is very approachable & loves to have a chat....he is very helpful & will go out of his way to assist you in any way. We spent 3weeks there & felt sad that we had to eventually leave....there will be a next time. Thank you Bob for making us feel at home....you are the Man!
The dog family was adorably sweet and gentle and they do enjoy tidbits of fried chicken if you can spare them!
If you are looking for something away from the norm, then this is your place.
Bob was the perfect host, he really understands the balance between being informative about the area and guiding us to the good spots, whilst allowing us to have our privacy and space. The accommodation was some of our favourite in Thailand, very spacious and authentic but with all the mod cons.
Donte hesitate in staying a few days with bob !
Bob allowed us to make a last minute booking and made the process really easy for us to come stay at his place. His houses are beautiful and are an excellent place to set up shop while in Chiang Mai. There are many restaurants available within a 5 minute walk (with great food!) and there's a 7-Eleven and large-ish market nearby for some added variety. Bob was incredibly accommodating and made everything really comfortable for us (we travelled with two cats) and we would absolutely recommend staying at one of his places for anyone traveling through northern Thailand.
Bob was an incredible host and had a beautiful property filled with several unique teak houses. He picked us up and dropped us off to the airport, helped us get a motorbike for our stay, was more then willing to show us around town and had great advice for fun things to do (grand canyon, sunday market). The location was a bit far from the main city (30 mins on motorbike), however there was lots to do close by. The teak homes are very beautiful and it makes them even more special that Bob built them himself. He keeps the homes nice and clean, he has drinking water available for his guests, and his dogs are very sweet and made the place feel like home. Overall, it was very lovely stay! Thanks Bob!
The place is sooo beautiful with many animals (especially bob's dogs ) and plants. And thanks bob for sending us from and to the airport. I would absolutely go there again if I go to Chiang Mai next time.
