MASTER BEDROOM WITH ENSUITE & BALCONY
Isobel, David and our 3 young children, 2 cats and 6 hens welcome you to come and stay with us in our beautiful family home in the pretty North Cornish village of St Tudy.
Our house is a place where you can truly get away from it all. We live 1/3 mile down a narrow private lane on the outskirts of the village of St Tudy with our nearest neighbours a few 100 metres away. We really are away from the hubbub of busy life and it is very restful here.
If you are travelling with children we will try to be as flexible as possible, being parents ourselves, we understand sleeping arrangements can be key in a successful break away from home.
Sorry, but because of our cats and free-ranging chickens, we are unable to accommodate dogs.
MASTER BEDROOM WITH ENSUITE & BALCONY
The first room in our family home that we offer is the master bedroom with a walk in shower ensuite. The room is very light and airy and has a beautiful vaulted ceiling with a comfy king size bed and a super king size duvet (no problems of hogging the duvet here!).
A really special feature of the room are the double doors which open out on to the balcony overlooking the garden. You can wake up in the morning, open the curtains and then relax with a cup of tea in bed and enjoy the stunning view of the garden. Then if weather permits guests are more than welcome to breakfast out on the balcony. The room is very cosy and is heated via underfloor heating.
Another nice feature of the room is the velux window above the bed which if you choose to leave the blackout blind open at night, you can enjoy sleeping under the stars but in the comfort of a warm and snuggly bed.
We serve breakfast in the garden room. We focus on offering homemade and local ingredients where at all possible. We use only our own hens’ eggs and freshly homebaked sourdough or granary bread. We also make our own preserves, the current selection includes a lovely summer fruits jam and 3 fruits marmalade. Typically we offer the following breakfasts:
• Freshly baked sourdough toast with poached or scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, and chives from the garden
• Sourdough pancakes with strawberries, blueberries and apple topped with maple syrup
• A full cooked breakfast, with our own hens’ eggs taking centre stage and local sausages and bacon. For vegetarians we can provide veggie sausages
• The ‘Wetherham Power Breakfast’ (David’s weekend treat!) – sourdough or granary toast topped with chocolate spread and sliced banana, kiwi, mango or blueberries
Plus of course a range of cereals, orange juice, freshly brewed coffee and a range of teas (Earl Grey, Lapsangsouchong, Green tea, English Breakfast)
Please just let us know the evening before roughly what time and what you would like for breakfast and we will do our best to accommodate you.
We can also make a fresh mug of tea or coffee for you to enjoy in bed before you come down to breakfast.
(Please note occasionally on weekdays when David is away we request that guests help themselves to cereals and toast first so Isobel can get the children to school on time!)
We can also offer use of our living room for guests - with a tv, dvd player and a selection of dvd's to watch. For our younger guests we also offer a selection of toys to play with.
For those summer evenings nothing beats eating al fresco and for a nominal charge you would be welcome to fire up our BBQ in the garden.
We also have a large lawn area where older children would be welcome to bring a tent to sleep in whilst parents stay in the cosiness of the bedroom? Adventure for the children and luxury for the parents.
It is important to us that you feel at home and if you need to do a wash or some ironing you are welcome to use our facilities for a nominal charge. We also have wireless broadband so you can keep in touch with the outside world if you need to.
We both work from home although sometimes David travels and it will be just Isobel looking after you. Please do bear in mind that it is our family home and with 3 creative children it can get a little busy when the kids leave for school.
The house nestles by a small babbling stream which then feeds a natural pond. This in turn attracts a wide variety of wildlife. David is a keen birder has spotted over 80 species of birds in and from the garden (including some less often seen birds such as Woodcock, Green Sandpiper, Merlin, Peregrine, Spotted Flycatcher). More common birds include Tawny Owl, Nuthatch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Yellow Wagtail, and Raven. We also have deer, bats, stoats, foxes, rabbits, dragon and damsel flies, grass snakes, newts, frogs and butterflies all visiting the garden at different times of the year. Nightime is also special and on a clear night the moon shadows make the garden particularly magical.
Guests are welcome to explore the garden, maybe have a walk in the bluebell wood or just sit and be and take in the surrounding wildlife. For children the garden is an adventure playground and there are plenty of places to build dens; have adventures or perhaps go pond dipping or make mud pies. We also have an outdoor play area and a trampoline which our younger guests are welcome to use. Indeed our children are keen to make new friends!
We must however stress that younger children would benefit from adult supervision as our garden is natural and thus there are the common sense dangers to bear in mind, particularly regarding the pond and streams and woodland.
THINGS TO DO:
St Tudy is a lovely base from which to explore the North Cornish coast, and the towns of Wadebridge, Camelford and Bodmin are all 10 minutes drive away. We are in rural Cornwall and you will need a car when visiting. We are within easy reach of the well known locations of North Cornwall:
• The small fishing village of Port Isaac
• Stunning coastal paths
• Surfing beaches including Polzeath, Newquay & Widemouth
• The charming fishing port of Padstow
• Tintagel Castle
• The inspirational Eden Project
• Bodmin moor and its rugged landscape
• The Camel Trail (a lovely flat'ish cycle/walking route)
The village is a short 10/15 minute walk up the lane, where there is a playground and we also have a very friendly well stocked village community shop which is run by volunteers (we enjoy a real community spirit here!). Our local pub is particularly nice and has recently been renovated and offers delicious home cooked (website hidden) Tudy also have some enjoyable footpath walks (one of which can be accessed close to our house).
North Cornwall has plenty to offer for every season of the year, we hope you consider staying with us!
PLACES TO EAT:
There are many great places to eat nearby, here are some of our favourites and those recommended by our foodie friends:
• St Tudy Inn – our wonderful local pub, just 10 mins (brisk walk) or 15 mins (gentle stroll) up into the village. Great food and a lovely warm welcome. Downhill on the way home!
• St Kew Inn – 10 minutes drive away, serves wonderful food in a traditional pub atmosphere
• Mowhay Cafe – located in Trebetherick, around 20 mins drive away, and just a short walk up the lane from our favourite beach, Daymer Bay. This is Isobel’s favourite, a bohemian feel to it with a local art and craft gallery attached.
• Relish – a cafe and deli in Wadebridge serving lovely lunches and award winning coffee
Dinner reservations are advised, we are happy to make bookings for you, just let us know.
Absolutely wonderful, Isobel and family made us feel so welcome. We only could stay 1 night due to a business trip, so a flying visit to the area but in such a short time we felt we had known the family for years. Marvelous breakfast, and tea in bed was a plus. Thank you for looking after us so well. Artemi x
A truly wonderful stay at a beautiful location with such a warm and welcoming family. Isobel and David could not have done anything more to make our stay more comfortable. They were so kind to spend time giving us information on things to do and places to eat in the area and ensured we always had everything we needed. The room was spotless, bed so comfortable and a lovely view of the garden from the balcony. Breakfast was excellent! Could not have asked for anything more. We would highly recommend this place and hope to visit again ourselves one day.
Isobel and David's place is a real paradise! It is surrounded by nature and peace and it offers all the comforts you need to spend a perfect holiday away from the bustle of city life: a large luxurious bedroom, delicious food and warm hospitality. Isobel and David are friendly and ready to help their guests, their children are lovely and their two cats are cute. We really enjoy the company of the whole family. It is a BnB highly recommended to explore Cornwall or simply to relax.
Isobel's husband was very gracious and welcoming to their lovely home and helped us put away some food in their fridge and get settled. The room was large and well appointed, a very large comfy bed, and a nice deck overlooking the garden. The highlight was sitting in the sun room for the included morning breakfast and watching Isobel in her apron going out to collect the eggs for breakfast. Breakfast included many choices of cereal with home made granola and many other goodies, followed by a huge piece of bread/toast topped with the aforementioned eggs, and salmon or chives from the garden to top that off. The alternative breakfast was a unique pancake feast! A delightful stay, the children were polite and friendly and went about their business (homework), and we enjoyed talking with Isobel and her husband. We were coming from Port Isaac and on our way to Exeter.
Isobel and David's house deserves all the accolades that have gone before. The welcome was warm and friendly, and the guest room we stayed in, with a balcony over the garden, was extremely comfortable, nicely furnished with the luxury of pure cotton sheets and feather pillows and duvet. The ensuite bathroom was very smart with a lovely walk in shower. Breakfast was delicious, with Isobel's home baked sourdough bread and home made yoghurt, and a wide selection of cereals and teas. The hens even perched on the window sill of the conservatory to check that you were enjoying their newly laid eggs. David and Isobel and their children were extremely good company and a fount of local knowledge. Definitely recommended.
Hands down the best bnb experience we've ever had. Isobel and David were perfect hosts. Very kind, considerate and helpful, and their place is beautiful! The room we stayed in: lovely and spotlessly clean. The breakfast amazing (eggs from their freerange chickens, homemade bread, yoghurt and muesli). Their lovely kids gave us a tour of the garden, which was a nice touch.
David pulled out a map on the first night there and talked us through places we might want to check out. We followed almost every one of his recommendations and were not disappointed once.
Isobel, David, and their children were so so welcoming, and the house was lovely. Our best airbnb experience so far.
If you are looking for a totally restful stay, in a beautiful home with a lovely garden, with hosts that treat you instantly like family or close friends, and the most gorgeous home-cooked breakfasts and fresh coffee every morning.... then this is the place for you!
My wife and I, and our 18 month old daughter, stayed for a week here, and we wished we didn't have to leave! Our daughter loved the children, as well as playing (perhaps too forcefully) with the hens and chickens!!! We hope to be back!
Isobel, David and their children are friendly and easy to communicate with. Beautifully appointed and comfortable home, from which to explore Cornwall. Very pretty and relaxing room, with lovely terrace on a dream garden and delicious breakfast. All was extremely quiet. Highly recommended, very good value and we would definitely stay here again if we come back to England. We look forward to Bruxells !
Stayed for 2 nights 1-3 Augu t 2013. A wonderful life-enhancing experience. That may seem an exaggeration but is decidedly not. That this family are willing to share their brilliantly located home is a big deal in itself - but staying with them allows you to "live the good life", and enjoy the comfort of a truly special home together with the extra special breakfasts and homebaking. Watching the children Scarlet and Holly gathering eggs from the chickens for your breakfast from the sunny garden room is a lovely start to your day. Nothing is too much trouble for Isobel and David to make your stay more enjoyable. Great restaurant in walking distance. Lovely village centre. The home is in the most idyllic setting. The balcony room bed faces down the lovely gardens with the sound of a gentle stream running beneath the balcony and where we were served early morning tea each day. There is a choice of eating breakfast on your balcony or downstairs in the garden room or alfresco on the terrace. We chose downstairs because the family were so engaging and to actually live the fairytale existence!! Would definitely hope to stay there next year on our way to Falmouth again if available but don't think Cornwall's best kept secret will remain so for very long. Don't miss this one - it really is better than anything!! Even if the balcony room is not available the second bedroom would be as good because it is the spirit of this lovely family and their way of life which is so appealing.
