. food and wine – this district is rich in fine produce, some of the best in the world: olive oil, Cabernet wine, Cannellini beans and pecorino cheese. If you come in the autumn you can help pick olives, transport them to the mill and see the production of the new and fresh extra virgin olive oil; and of course, to taste it! Our stay in Arpino at Carlo's guest house was wonderful. I only wish we were able to stay a few more days so we could have gone on a few hikes or walks with Carlo. He is a gracious and accommodating host, and a very interesting gentleman. My son and I very much enjoyed our conversations we had with him.
The accommodations were lovely, a very old apartment with modern amenities; extremely clean and decorated nicely.
I visited a few places in Italy on my trip this month. My favorites by far were Arpino and Arce.
I hope to someday return.
Amazing stay! Carlo was extremely willing to show us Arpino and the surrounding region, as well as teaching us some traditional italian dishes (free of charge). Carlo is very proud of and knowledgable about Arpino and its history. He hooked us up with friends and family as guides if he himself was busy. His wife was also very welcoming despite of language barrier (and makes amazing pies).
The apartment is close to the town center and in traditional italian style. Huge kitchen.
Arpino is a nice italian village with a number of restaurants, bars, mini markets, delis and even covers your shopping needs. :)
The apartment is child friendly and safe, and Carlo is good with children.
You will not be bored staying in Arpino (we recommend having a car while there).
Carlo was an amazing host. We were amazed at the beauty of Arpino and could have just stayed there forever. Our apartment was built in the year 1050 and it was not in the old part of town. Carlo provided us with the best fresh bread, homemade marmalade and cappuccino that we found. The dinner at his restaurant was all fresh and delicious. His family was sweet to us as well, despite the language barrier. Thank you Carlo for one of the highlights of our trip. Ciao, Cinda, Gabrielle and Frankie
What can I say about our time in Arpino? Carlo is exactly right - it only takes ONE trip to Arpino to make you fall in love with the city forever! We want to come back every year! Carlo and his family were incredible hosts. We went canyoning one day and spent another collecting olives near the house with an INCREDIBLE view of the town. We had lunch provided by Carlo's restaurant - stuffed pizza with vegetables and pasta al forno. It's the end of October but the weather is perfect - we did our harvesting with short sleeves! We went to the mill with our olives and the scent of olive oil was amazing.
The apartment we stayed in was GORGEOUS. I loved the arch over the kitchen and the French doors in the bathroom, the bedroom, and to the outdoors. You have everything you need to make your stay comfortable - gas range, refrigerator, and washer. My husband and I spent our breakfasts outside on the charming patio filled with plants and a singing bird! Carlo also provided us with an incredible breakfast of lattes, toast with jam and homemade cake.
The bnb is also situated PERFECTLY inside Arpino. Only a short walk takes you to the "downtown" square where you can mail your postcards, buy groceries, or take a cappuccino at one of the cafes. We spent some time walking around the entire city taking photos of the beautiful architecture.
This was by far one of the best vacations that we've ever taken - relaxing, adventurous, and fun! I wouldn't hesitate to visit Arpino again!
