This cute and cozy ocean front cottage is located in Kehena Beach, a remote but gorgeous coastal community in the Puna District on The Big Island of Hawaii. It is also a nice spot to visit Volcanoes National Park, which is a 50-60 minutes drive. There are also periodic lava flows just a short distance away. We have Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, geothermically heated ponds, snorkeling, whale watching w/ dolphins that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska. During the winter months, you can often see whales out in the water from our lanai just several yards off beautiful coast - in the Kehena Beach area. Many of my tenants tell me that they were able to swim w/ the dolphins as well - and you can too at the world famous 'Kehena Black Sand Beach' (bathing suit optional)!

Did you know that the best and safest snorkeling area is just down the road in the Kapoho Tide pools? You can easily navigate all of these places from our cottage @ Kehena Beach, it has come to be a very popular spot 'right in the center of all of these attractions'.
This comfortable, high ceiling cottage has 1 bedroom, full bath, living/dining area w/ a 'food prep area' but NO KITCHEN, full sized fridge/blender/coffee w/ coffee maker and a stocked pantry w/ goodies are included. MW and toaster oven located in utility room 15 ft. from cottage.
A Hawaiian rock BBQ w/ utensils outside etc...), If a full kitchen is needed, please look at The Whale House.
Cottage has Wi-FI internet, Direct TV, landline w/ free long distance to mainland and Canada.
It has a queen bed, but can sleep 3 possibly 4 w/ Futon (double bed size) or/and couch.

For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar' if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time.

The Oceanfront Cottage is just 8 miles from Pohoiki Point (surfing area) and the famous Kapoho snorkeling waters are also near by and remain popular snorkeling, surfing and swimming areas. Compare our rates to those in Kapoho - you will love our place.

Kilauea Volcano is just a 45-60 minute drive where you can walk through Thurstons Lava Tube and look in to Kilauea Caldera.

If you are interested in Yoga, our cottages are located between the two yoga centers in this area at a great rate.

It's all about the location and the view but the build up was made easy by Andre's email communication and we arrived on the evening of July 4 and found our way in all OK. The accommodation was clean and comfortable- meeting our expectations. The location was superb - walk to the Black Sand Beach, view of the ocean through trees from the veranda and 5 minutes drive to eats and provisions. The area is as described, attracting folk looking for an alternative life style - so a great contrast to the Kona side of the island. Some 'alternatives' left us a little concerned but we are conservative Brits!! We ate at an Andre recommended grill/bar in Pahoa on arrival and it was really very good. We left wishing we'd had a couple days longer - missed seeing dolphins - but left with great photos and memories.

Great location in front of Kehena Beach. Strong waves and soft sand! Be careful if you carry a phone in your pocket so it doesn't get wet!

Andre (I didn't get the opportunity to meet Susan) was incredible. He took great care of us at all hours. We had a difficult situation as we needed to work the week from the cottage and Andre made sure that we had access to a hard wire connection should we need it. He also stopped by very quickly whenever I needed some help. He absolutely made us feel at home and is such a kind person. As for the cottage. It's a great place. The location is in a rural area, so close to the lava flow tour area. There's also an incredible black sand beach just minutes away. It felt incredible to be so close to such interesting things. There are also small farms nearby where you can speak with fascinating people and get fresh fruit and coconuts. There's ALSO a farmers market with live music on wednesdays. This place really was wonderful. Just some notes... wifi all over Hawaii is slow. About 3Mb down and 1 up. The washer and dryer are very convenient and right outside the house, along with a convenient microwave and toaster oven. There are also snorkel and other gear you can borrow, though we didn't need to. The w/d was a lifesaver though. You'd be foolish not to book this place!
