Sarah and Paul were very generous in letting us stay till 9:00 the following day because of a late flight out of Dar. Also, Sarah arranged for her taxi driver to pick us up. The space was very large (small bedroom but we also had exclusive use of dining and living room). The only disappointment was the advertised pool that we were looking forward to since it was so hot. It was definitely not swimmable -looked like it hadn't been used (cleaned) in quite a while.
Denis's review is, I think, unfortunately very misleading. We have been hosting with airbnb for nearly two years now and have made very sure that we have given accurate details on the location of our house and the exact distances to the peninsula and town. We have been very clear about all details concerning the house and its location. Dennis lived in Dar (on the peninsula) for two years previous to his short stay with us. It does seem a little odd that he chose to stay 16km away from his office, knowing very well the roads and possible traffic jams in rush hour. I advised him against traveling around Dar between 6 and 8 . He decided he would stay anyway. We work on the peninsula and drive in every day to Slipway at 8.15am and return home at around 6pm. We often use several easy short cuts and can reach the peninsula within 25/30 minutes. Rain is of course a difficult time for every one using the roads in Dar, and can be a problem. Mbezi is not at all remote, on the contrary, it is becoming a very fashionable place to live, a perfect place to get away from the crowded peninsula. All of our previous guests have been very happy with our location and the travel times to and from the airport, peninsula and other places of interest. Please do read their reviews.
Apart from his major issue with travel, Denis was a little difficult from the onset. He expected discounts from our very reliable and fair taxi driver, having an issue before he set foot in the house. He immediately expected our staff to go shopping for him, before even meeting them, and left no tips. He attempted to extract a discount from me, suggesting that as he is a 48 year old lawyer it would be the correct thing to do. All in all Denis was a Menace!
This was our first experience with Air B&B and hope that it is representative of what to expect from now on.
Sarah was very helpful organising a taxi to the property, especially when our flight was cancelled at late notice.
The property is very spacious and clean, with a nice pool to cool down in the afternoon heat. There are also great home helps in Francis and Jessie, who were always at hand to help organise washing or transport.
There is a basic supermarket close by and restaurants a short tuk-tuk ride away.
All in all, it was what we were after before facing our onward journey.
We arrived in the early morning before sunrise. Sarah organised a taxi to collect us and was awake to greet us at her home. Made us feel welcome and let us crash on the balcony while we waited for the other guests to check out. Dar es Salaam was sweltering so we took advantage of her lovely garden pool to cool off in. Felt very welcome and trusted .
Beautiful and quiet location in Dar. We stayed only one night while on the way to Zanzibar. Sarah and Paul made us feel very welcome and we had a lovely evening together. The house is beautiful too. We missed seeing the ocean, but this gives us another good reason to go back!
We stayed in Sarah's place two nights, on our way to Zanzibar and back , and we really enjoyed the place.
