House staff

If you wish, we can provide breakfast, which usually consists of cereals, fresh fruit, toast and coffee/tea. You have full use of the kitchen should you wish to prepare lunch or dinner.

Our house staff, who are extremely pleasant and have been with us for 16 years, will make your stay hassle free. They can be at your disposal should you require any help and will assist with your washing and ironing, (please provide soap power for the washing machine). We have the convenience of a live-in babysitter if required, the cost should be negotiated with the babysitter.

Wifi is available throughout the house and garden.

The house is a detached double storey building, in its own compound, fully lawned with a tree filled garden and an unusual ten metre swimming pool with waterfall. All of which are available to you. We are often visited by monkeys which provide plenty of entertainment especially if they try to join you for breakfast!

Our animals are very sweet natured. We have four dogs (Jack Russells), one cat and a talking parrot. We have an abundance of wild birds constantly in the garden.

We are a walled property only ten metres from the beach on a secluded and tree lined avenue 14 kms from Dar Es Salaam City Centre.

Airport pickup/drop off can be arranged at your cost. If you do not have your own transport local Tuk Tuks/Badji's or taxis can be arranged on a daily basis, to get you into and out of the city. Francis will arrange them for you, or they are available a short five minute walk away from the house.

There are several good restaurants within a kilometre of the house. Italian, Caribbean and local Tanzania cuisine , all within a five minute drive or pleasant walk along the beach.

Bikers welcome, we are a Harley family :)

Guest access

A house key is available for kitchen door access. Our house staff are always at home during the day.
In addition to the bedroom and bathroom, living and dining rooms guests have access to the kitchen and laundry area , pool and garden and downstairs veranda.

Interaction with guests

We are home for breakfast and during the evenings and most weekends. Happy to share a bottle of wine and dinner!

The neighborhood

Quite street with lovely bird life. Beach access a two minute walk from the house. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe. Shoppers Plaza supermarket and Mbezi Fresh supermarket (the best fruits and veg) are close by, within 15 minute walking distance, or 5 minute drive.

Getting around

We are located 16 kms from Dar city centre. Parking available within the compound. Public transport available within a five minute walk. We can call up for taxis and TukTuks. A petrol station is opposite the Rainbow Club on the main road, 5 minutes from the house. Early morning traffic can be bad between 6.00am and 7.45am, evening 5.30 -7.30pm. To avoid traffic jams, the best time to travel into town or on to Msasani peninsula is around 8.30am. It is possible to reach the peninsula in 20/25 minutes when the traffic is good. On sundays a straight 15 minutes is the norm. Please ask me for advice on shortcuts, these can save a lot of time!

Other things to note

Our house staff - Francis and Jessie will help you out with washing, ironing, calling taxi's and Bijaji's (tuk tuk's). If you require extra help with something, (for example shopping), please remember to tip! They are employed by us but happy to help out with guests and earn some extra cash.

Beautiful and homey, spacious, artistic, and comfortable place in quiet, residential neighborhood. Lovely hosts, wonderful place, private pool and easy access to the beach. Every possible guest need fulfilled. With access to the entire downstairs full of gorgeous art, antiques and intriguing books, who could ask for more?

Sarah's place is very neat and in a nice calm corner, far from the nightmare of traffic of Dar es Salaam. My daughter and my wife enjoyed the living area and the pool a lot whilst I was out working. The house staff are very diligent and well acquainted with the needs of travelers. Tip: always ask for anything you need -- they will help you to figure it out. Overall, a great stay. The easiest way to move around from the area is a motor tricycle - use maps to tell them what to do. Dar is growing fast and with there are a lot of issues about beach pollution. We visited during the rainy season and the beach had a lot of plastic bags -- we hope that the ban on plastic bans that is planned for TZ helps to solve this in the future.

Sarah's place is very comfortable. It is away from the noise and buzz of the city, very close to the beach. The room is spacious, and the hosts - including the house staff - are most welcoming. You really feel like living at home, not a hotel. The pool gives a welcome refuge from the heat, and dogs are fantastic! We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to be back one day! Many thanks, Sarah and Paul!

Comfortable and stylish house near the beach. Definitely a good place to stay if looking for a spot a bit removed from the hustle of the city center.

We didn't get to meet Sarah as she was traveling to Europe for the holidays, but her staff took great care of us. Francis is super nice and was very helpful to find us cabs (late on Christmas night) and great places to eat!The room is as described, great place. Too bad our flight got delayed...we didn't get to use the pool or go to the beach. Next time!
