Description

The space

A private exterior staircase takes you up to The Coconut Lanai. The breezes off the Kalapana Coast rustle through the coconut tree canopy that surrounds this airy upstairs apartment. Seven sets of sliding glass doors and a walk-around covered lanai encircling the entire apartment and provide the open and verdant feeling of a tree house. The manager and local artist, Heather Wilkinson, lives downstairs in this two-story house in Seaview Kalapana Estates with her dog Lupita, and cat Kitty Purry. Heather will be your source for how to get the most out of your stay on the Puna (east side) of the Big Island of Hawaii.
Your unit accommodates two persons and consists of a living room, dining area and kitchen in an open floor plan. The large bathroom and a bedroom with brand new queen size bed both open onto the lanai. The living room has a full size fold-out sofa bed and a partial ocean view. The kitchen, which is fully equipped, has a microwave oven, gas stove, refrigerator and a dishwasher. The unit has complimentary wireless internet. The unit does not have a telephone, we recommend using through the internet to make calls. Cell phone service is spotty in this area, there are some hot spots down the road. We have a state of the art water filtration system so you can drink the rainwater out of the faucets. We have very recently converted the entire house to Solar Power. Parking is available on the street. We have a coin-operated washing machine and a propane dryer. There are also many clothes lines available for drying clothes.
The atmosphere here in Puna is totally laid back, friendly, and in tune with Nature.
There are locals markets Wednesday night and Saturday morning 10 minutes down the road at Uncle Roberts Kava Bar. Kahena Black Sand Beach is only a three minute drive from the Coconut Lanai, and many great attractions including flowing lava, warm ponds , snorkeling, surfing, and steam bathing are within easy driving distance down the Red Dirt Road, which is actually paved now. Heather and Kitty Purry invite you to experience a unique lifestyle in Seaview Kalapana Estates.

Heather's place is in a great location, if your wanting to just chill and relax. Heather lives below, so if you need anything it's easy to make contact with her. There is a beach pretty close, and if you have a car there is grocery stores about 11 miles to a bigger one or you could drive about 6 miles down the road, and pay a little more for things, but it's handy, if you don't want to go very far. I would highly recommend staying at Heather's place.

We absolutely loved our experience at Heather's place! The kitchen is well equipped, the bed is super comfortable and the large living space is decorated with Heather's cool original art. It was clean and was well lit with patio doors on all sides leading to a wrap-around balcony. We stayed for 11 days and there was plenty of different activities to do close by everyday. The surrounding nature is simply mind-blowing!

What an endearing place this was. the paint colors, the book shelves and books, the wrap around lanai in the coconut canopy, the eloquently manicured yard. What a pleasure it was to stay is this artsy cozy place. Heather has not left any detail unnoticed. To the rope lighting at night and the yard art and whimsical moss in the lawn. and the little ornamental lions watching over the estate at night. Don't forget to turn her artworks on at night before you go to bed to be whisped away into a whimsical blissful dreamlandscape!

The Coconut Lanai was the perfect home for me during my stay on the Big Island. It had everything I needed to feel completely at ease. The location was terrific, within great walking distance to the sunsets, Kalani, and the black sand beaches. Most people might want a car, but it was great for me to walk everywhere and relax. Heather was communicative & helpful, and I loved her cats.

The listing description was very accurate. Beautiful location..palm trees all around. Great outside porch to enjoy breakfast and coffee. Quaint neighborhood, quiet with the exception of sounds from nature (we think they were frogs). Might bother some, but we thought it was nice to fall asleep to. Comfortable bed. Very spacious and clean inside. Binder was left with very helpful information regarding the area. Location made it a bit difficult to get around the island in a timely fashion, but we made it work and overall we enjoyed our stay.

Directions to the guest house were clear. It was easily accessible and very well decorated. There was a few dead bugs in the bathroom, but it was easy to clean with a broom. Bugs are to be expected in this part of the big island. The cats are very smart and friendly; they know their ways to enter the coconut lanai ;)

I have lived on the Big Island for nearly 10 years now, and have occupied this property in Seaview for five years. I work as a mural artist and create art work that adorns much of my neighbors yards and homes. I enjoy exploring the Big Island, traveling, landscaping, dancing, swimming with dolphins and making art.
