Sylvie has a great place in Aix, easy walking distance to everything and a very cosy apartment. The bedroom is perfectly quiet and we slept great. The only downside is that there is a bar right across from the balcony which has loud music, so if you sit there at night it is quite noisy.
It was a wonderful location and we enjoyed the views if the old town from the balcony at night. Perfect for a wine at sunset! The staircase to the top floor living area is very very steep and not very safe. I would not recommend this appartment for families with small or very young children or elderly people . Otherwise it was everything we needed.
Sylvie and her daughter Tiphaine were wonderful hosts. It was Tiphaine who met me at check in, and she was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The apartment was just as it looked in the photos: very clean, well-furnished and has a terrace with a fantastic view. It is centrally located and an easy walk to all the Festival venues. The steep spiral staircase does take some getting used to, but overall I had a pretty perfect stay, and would definitely want to book here again.
Lorenzo, thank you very much for your nice review. It was a pleasure to receive an enthusiastic guest as you, really respectful of the place. We are very happy that you had a good time in our place and we will be very happy to see you again next summer. Hope to see you soon ! Regards from Tiphaine and Sylvie.
Sylvie and her husband made us feel very welcome when we arrived, and were very good in terms of communicating with us quickly, to answer questions and resolve any minor issues that came up. We were happy to get to know them, and found that they speak Spanish and some English as well, so communication was no problem.
This apartment worked out well for my son (age 26) and I - we spent a month there while we studied French in Aix. The apartment is very well located, across the street from the Old Town, shops, restaurants, and a 10 minute walk to the bus station. The view of the St. Victoire mountain from the small balcony (which sits two at a table) was wonderful! It has a good and spacious shower, a washing machine, and the full-size kitchen and refrigerator were much appreciated. The wi-fi worked great. I appreciated the full-size closet in the downstairs bedroom, as I had clothes for a month's stay. Although there are quite a few steps to reach the apartment (it is on the 3rd floor), the stairwells are wide and comfortable, and we needed the exercise after eating delicious baguettes every day!
The apartment is kind of "quirky", however, and took some getting used to: The stairs between the first and second floors are steep, and you have to really concentrate when going up and down them. I understand that they are special stairs designed for places where one could not normally fit in a flight of stairs. The rope hand-rail provided on the wall (in addition to the wooden bannister on the other side) was a God-send. We got used to them after a while.
There is a bar on the other side of the street from the apartment that is noisy at night a couple of times a week, but I stayed in the downstairs bedroom (which has a double bed), which is more removed from the street, and has a door, so the noise did not bother me. My son (age 26) slept on the sofabed upstairs, and will sleep through anything, so the noise from the bar did not bother him.
There was a moldy smell in the bottom floor of apartment when we left the apartment closed for awhile, but the smell went away when we opened the windows to let in some air. Since the buildings in Aix are so old, I understand that this is a common issue in Aix.
Although we stayed there one month, my son and I didn't feel like we were "on top of one another", the apartment is spacious enough, and we could spend time on the separate levels of the apartment, when we wanted privacy or needed to work. We had an enjoyable time in this apartment, and we would stay there again.
