Sweet little downtown cottage room

House - Private room · Whiterock Alley, Crested Butte, CO 81224, United States
Dawne

The alleys of Crested Butte reflect the true historic past of this once mining town turned resort village. Take a stroll through the back streets of CB and discover the 2-story outhouses, along with old carriage houses and sheds that have been upgraded and renovated to maintain their charm. Much of the rustic Victorian is still present mingled with the artistic touches of the Love Generation who moved into town when the ski area opened in the 1960s.

Friends have lovingly dubbed my cottage "Bag End" after Bilbo's Hobbit home because of its enchantment – flowering gardens, birdsong and wildlife. The cottage has a fabulous location on one of "The Shire's" best alleys. The private bedroom is small but has a queen size bed, closet, dresser and view of Mt. Crested Butte, all only 1 1/2 blocks from downtown but away from any of its noise. The free Mountain Express Shuttle buses are only a block away. Hiking, biking and wildflower trailheads are a 5 minute walk out the front door.

The bathroom and kitchen are shared with me, your hostess, whose bedroom is upstairs. I also love to cook so you'll find the kitchen has everything from blenders to crock pots and waffle irons and all the pots, pans and implements you might want. You'll have access to the washer and dryer as well as an outdoor clothesline to make your threads smell as fresh as the cool mountain air. The backyard is tiny but fenced and full of flowers, with a small patio and big ambiance: solar lighting, candles, table /chairs, and a wood burning chiminea.

Although I'll be around should you need info or conversation, rest assured that you will have as much privacy and space as you require.

Crested Butte is known for its friendliness and I love sharing my amazingly beautiful town. I want you to have the true Buttian experience of what it's like to be a local in paradise so you'll have a townie clunker bike for your visit here. I look forward to helping you discover the glory of our alpine splendor, the wildflower, bike and hiking trails, the diversely flavorful restaurants and the typically western mountain town watering holes. If you're here during one of our uniquely CB celebrations, I am the costume queen and will gladly help costume you up! I look forward to your visit.

**Price includes all taxes and fees ( such as the mandatory 12% Crested Butte bed tax, AirBnB fees, as well as cleaning fees.)

**PLEASE TAKE NOTE: I have a delightful indoor cat of notoriety named Mr. Gizmo, therefore, other visiting pets are not permitted.

 • We highly recommend staying with Dawne and traveling to Crested Butte. She made us feel comfortable before arrival and was a wonderful hostess. We enjoyed traveling around CB in the townie bikes she made available to us for our stay. Her cottage was clean, charming and decorated so nicely. We hope to return!

 • Loved this little house in CB. My room was small, but had everything I needed: a comfortable bed and cool breeze through a window that opened to the garden. The shared kitchen and bathroom were very clean. Mr. Gizmo the cat, was a sweet addition. Though my host was not there, she left the place in wonderful shape, along with a bottle of wine and some chocolate as a welcome gift. So easy to walk to restaurants, yet very quiet.

 • This place is a real gem in the beautiful mountain town of Crested Butte. Dawne was an amazing host. She is a wonderful women who whole heartedly opened her home to us. She provided us with lots of local knowledge of places to go and things to do. She even outfitted us in awesome costumes for the "Zombie Prom". I highly recommend this listing to anyone looking for a charmed and unique Crested Butte experience.

About
A native of NYC in the 1950s, Clearwater Beach, Florida in the 60s, I headed west to Colorado in 1971, settling in the Gunnison/Crested Butte valley in 72. I'm a published freelance journalist, writer and photographer as well as a vocalist/musician. I write features for the Crested Butte News-Weekly and you'll see my stories and photos in the Crested Butte Magazine as well as other regional publications. I've been dubbed "Fairy Godmother to the Inebriated" since I drove the Mountain Express shuttles for 8 years and more recently the late night taxi. My motto is "No drunk left behind." The truth is, I enjoy taking care of people. I've been in tourism for decades and have experienced all walks of life from an historic restorationist, arts council and concert creator, tour guide, to restaurant owner and galley girl on a deep sea fishing vessel. I've sung in bands that toured from western mountain towns to all over Asia. Fully entrenched in Crested Butte culture you'll find me in every parade and celebration of my town as one of the infamous Red Ladies (since 1984), or as a cast member of Vinotok, the Protector Spirit Aviana (Check out the Vinotok festivities through an online search). My new project is reigniting the defunct Crested Butte Mushroom Festival with top mycologists this August. As most Buttians, I have a verve for life... and the required costume trunks ;>) I have a 72 VW Bug and love being counted among Crested Butte's colorful characters. I've traveled extensively throughout Asia, SE Asia and Italy and will never lose the wanderlust or the joy of meeting new people. I love hearing other traveler's stories and experiences and look forward to hearing yours.
