We had a fabulous stay at Debra and Dennis place. This is our favorite airbnb choice so far. The apartment is adorable and very private. We had breakfast and after dinner drinks on our own private deck over looking their beautifully wooded backyard. The birds that were attracted to the backyard were wonderful to listen too. There are café’s, shops and restaurants and pubs within walking distance and they are so close to other cool neighborhoods as well as the Carter and King centers. They offered to loan us bikes to ride the nearby bike path to these placees. Debra is an artist with an onsite studio and a hand crafted furniture store nearby which we visited and we had some great conversations about places to travel. We are already planning a return trip.
Debra and Dennis were great hosts. The apartment is in one of the best Atlanta neighborhoods close to parks and walkable for good restaurants. I was at a conference at Emory, and the drive was less than 10 minutes. I highly recommend the Urban Oasis!
'Urban oasis' is right!!!!!! I love this little space, and I think that Deb and Dennis were amazing hosts! The apartment itself is so calm and peaceful. It's nicely decorated, incredibly comfortable, and very convenient to Candler Park--both the actual park and the little shops at the bottom of Page Avenue and nearby. The neighborhood itself is largely residential (and the houses are preatty to look at as you leisurely walk down the road and around neighboring streets...). Little Five Points is a nice walk from the apartment. I had a really great stay, and if I make my way to Atlanta again--for a longer visit, and to really see the city and get to know it well instead of for a quickie trip--I can't imagine anyplace else I would rather stay.
Beautiful space in a beautiful neighborhood. The interior design of the the apartment is inspiring and was most appreciated. We met Dennis on our way in and he was very friendly and welcoming but then let us do our own thing. It was also super considerate of Debra to let us know that we didn't have to rush out by 3 on our last day, in case we had a later flight, which we did, so that was a huge help. Bed and pillows were super comfortable. Coming from SoCal, I did find the ground floor (where the bedroom and living room is) to be noticeably chillier than the upstairs (bathroom and kitchen). That said, the hosts did their best to fix that by providing two additional space heaters on the ground floor. We found that what worked best was to run them both and put the ceiling fan on low to help circulate the heat.
Hey Noelle, sorry the heating was not explained better. If you use the gas wall heater with the fan it blows the heat out into the living room and there is no need for the central heating to even be on. The electric fan on the wall is the key to making it warm. and of course the central heating can be left super low just to heat upstairs, a little complicated.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a short vacation weekend and were extremely satisfied with the experience. The location and amenities are better than described. Dennis and Debra as hosts are like service at the best restaurants - you see evidence of their thoughtfulness (a proactive email explaining how to navigate the marathon traffic the morning we were leaving) and they're there to provide guidance if needed. There is street parking right in front of the house. One morning we took a long walk down the bike path immediately behind their home and there was a farmers market by the Carter library. The house is in a cozy, well cared for neighborhood where people are outside gardening, riding bikes, and walking to the numerous local restaurants. We went to the Flying Biscuit (delicious) for dinner one night and cooked breakfast the next morning (there is a small well appointed market within walking distance). The stove is gas (which I love) and they have all of the basics plus a french press and great tea pot. Another plus is they're eco-conscious, encouraging, but not demanding that we be thoughtful on energy use (they have several large windows, blinds, and three different heating elements) so we could control the temperature. All in all a great place that we'd love to visit again.
Overall my stay at Debra and Dennis' urban oasis was pleasant. I spoke with Dennis a couple of times -- he's a very nice and interesting person. The property is beautiful. My favorite aspect of the apartment was the lovely outdoor space. There's a porch with tables and chairs to sit and relax. They have a small fountain in the yard that's soothing to listen to after a long day. The apartment was very clean. The bed was comfortable. I didn't cook, but the kitchen has nice appliances (gas range, full size fridge). The layout of the apartment is a bit unusual. On the bottom floor is a living room and bedroom. The bathroom and kitchen are upstairs [The listing and other reviews make this very clear, so I was not surprised by it]. I personally prefer to have the bathroom closer to the bedroom and don't like having to navigate the stairs at night . . . but this is me being nit-picky. All said and done, I would stay here again and recommend it to others. Thanks again, Debra and Dennis!
This was my first time using airbnb, and wow!!!This place is absolutely amazing in a beautiful neighborhood. From the moment we set foot into the candler park neighborhood, we fell in love!! The apartment itself is just stunning. The pictures of the inside as well as the outside don't really do it justice, it is even more amazing in person. It is such a unique looking property. The hosts are very accommodating, and even let us use there bikes to go riding around the walking/bike paths located just down the street from the apartment. You are literally 15 minutes away or less from major parts of downtown driving, making it a perfect location for some peace and quiet, but still close to the hustle and bustle of downtown Atlanta. Wow is all I can say, it truly is a great place!!
I was in Atlanta for 6 days to attend a professional training and I stayed at Dennis' and Debra's urban oasis. It was a wonderful stay.
The apartment is quiet, clean, attractive, with a lovely porch overlooking a garden/treed area. Nice table and chairs on the porch for meals, rest, coffee time etc. I can only imagine what the back yard will look like in Spring. The kitchen and bath are up a flight of stairs. Although I am 79 this was not a problem for me. There is a convenient parking place right outside. A bit of a steep incline to walk down to the apartment.
Great places to walk and I felt very safe there. Excellent neighborhood, Restaurants in walking distance.
Debra and Dennis were available and helpful if I needed anything. Debra met me on arriving.
I would hope to stay there if and when I return to Atlanta.
My thanks to you Debra and Dennis.

Debra and Dennis's apartment in Candler Park was great! Cozy, quiet, with lots of character, and in one of Atlanta's most charming neighborhoods.
Debra and Dennis were very kind, helpful, and checked in with us throughout our stay to make sure everything was going well.
Highly recommended—we'd definitely stay here again when visiting Atlanta!
Fun place to stay! These delightful, accommodating hosts made it unique through their artistic touches. Loved having 2 levels with separate lounging and sleeping area downstairs and kitchen and bath upstairs. Had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Private entrance was especially nice and could come and go without disturbing anyone. Quiet neighborhood, near a large park and small, hip shopping area that was perfect to get coffee or pizza. Definitely will contact Debra and Dennis about staying here next trip.
