The room is in a great location and is right by Atlantic Ave/Barclays Center Station. We were able to get to Manhattan very quickly in the mornings.
Lots of shops around the area, biggest would be the Atlantic Center Shopping Plaza. There are a couple restaurants in there (Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebees, McDonalds..) There's also a Shake Shack nearby.
Room has TV, Wifi, A/C (lifesaver in the summertime), a microwave/toaster oven and there's a freezer/fridge out in the hall.
There's a room out in the front which I guess is for cleaning supplies and storage. My boyfriend was concerned that other people would be sharing the apartment with us but I assured him, and can assure all of you, that the apartment is indeed private.
Never met the owners but did communicate with them twice during my stay.
First time: had to call Toni when bf & I accidentally locked ourselves out of the bedroom. By the time we got back in the evening, keys were back in the lockbox.
Second time: received a heads up from the hosts that the cleaning lady would be stopping by on the weekend, which didn't affect us since we were out all day.
There's a garden out back, the fence is in need of repair which isn't a big deal since we aren't here to spend time in a garden but explore the city.
Only thing I found odd was that there was no curtain for the shower - not sure if that's a New York thing or preference of the owners? Also the knob on the shower is a little loose, it fell a few times.
As well, careful with the front door, when my bf would close it small debri from overhead would fall.
Overall, this is a good place to stay.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Tanya and Tony's apartment. It looks like pictured on airbnb and has a table with chairs inside and outside in the garden. Yes - there is a private garden which is certainly a plus in summer. As mentioned before the garden is not particularly looked after but for a stay in New York we certainly could not complain. What might not be clear in the listing is that the hallway leading to the room is not entirely private as a cleaner uses it from time to time. The bathroom is a separate room with the door facing the hallway so some people might not want that. We had no problem with it though. The area is absolutely lovely with beautiful houses and some nice bars and restaurants. We recommend the Hungry Ghost Café for breakfast! Thank you very much for a perfect stay in New York!
This was our first-ever Airbnb experience and we were overall pretty satisfied.
First of all, the location of this apartment is quite perfect if you're not willing to pay Manhattan prices. The place is a 2-minute walk away from the Atlantic Center, which houses a major subway station that services nearly every line from and into Manhattan. You can get within walking distance of any landmark in 20 minutes. Despite all this, Fort Greene Place offers quiet and peace if you want to cool down from the NYC fervor. Brooklyn is a beautiful borough, worth at least a day of your time if you're staying for a longer period.
The apartment itself is spacious enough, with a fairly modern separate bathroom, a table, a couch, etc. and even a closet room where you can store your luggage. There is no safety deposit box, so you might want to take your valuables with you (although the building can be locked properly in about five ways). The place comes with a garden, which has a huge potential (uniquely large green private space for NYC standards), but seemed quiet neglected, with weeds and old moldy furniture all over the place.
We never saw our hosts during our visit, but the check-in instructions were clear and effective.
In short, this place gave us exactly what we wanted. Nothing more, but certainly nothing less than what was promised either!
Everything was great! Tanya was really sweet, and the place was great. It's kind of unexpected as it's mostly a hallway with a bedroom and bathroom off the hall, but it was plenty large for two. The key access worked great, and the lock-up of the gate and door was fine once we figured it out. The layout is slightly different from the picture- they moved the bed into the corner and added a table, which was really helpful for our gear. The neighborhood was fantastic - walking around Brooklyn was really fun - check out the coffee and restaurant options! Plus, access to the trains was super easy.
