The Space

At Dromforde you can enjoy the real experience of an original West Cork Farmhouse. We are just a family house with two comfortable bedrooms rooms to offer for visitors to lovely west cork. But you also get your own entrance, sitting/dining room and private landing!

Dromforde has been sympathetically restored with its exposed beams and low ceilings maintaining its integral history and character.
We ran an Interior Design Business for 25 years in S Devon, UK. before moving back to Ireland. Dromforde has been featured in both '25 Most beutiful Homes' and House and Homes' magazines.

When our two sons had finally left home, we were attracted to West Cork in 2001 because of Brigid's family connections and by the varied artisan food producers and interesting mix of people, artists, writers, potters, furniture makers etc. who find themselves in West Cork. It is a real creative mixing pot! West Cork is so unexpected.

You will have a separate entrance and stair case to your own private landing giving off to one room in which we can either give you a double bed (6' wide) or twin beds and another beautiful little single bedroom. This room will be ideal for a third member of your group, or a child. Between these rooms is the shower and WC.

You have your own private sitting room with wood burning stove to relax in after your day out seeing what this area has to offer.

We both enjoy cooking and eating and will promise you a good breakfast with fruit, fresh coffee, our home made bread, marmalade and preserves with, of course, our own Dromforde honey!

You can also have local artisan produce of bacon, sausages and eggs (€5) or lovely Buttermilk Pancakes with crisp streaky bacon with maple syrup (€5). What better way to start the day!

While we have a dog and two cats we promise you wont see them unless you want to! If you suffer from associated pet allergies, sadly we might not be the best place for you to stay.

There is a good election of restaurants nearby and we will happily drive you to and from ( small charge) so you can enjoy that very good bottle of wine.

Dromforde is 10 k from Bantry and 12 K from Ballydehob

Why you should come to West Cork?:
There is beauty everywhere, the serenity, the extraordinary constantly changing relationship between the sky, weather, land and sea.

There is a friendly welcome guaranteed for you here. West Cork is used to visitors from all over the world.

Only 15k away is Bantry Golf Course ( an absolute gem),Riding,Fishing (sea, river and lake) are also nearby. We also have sailing schools at Bantry, Schull and Adrigole.

We have some of the best walking you can imagine with breath taking views especially down on the Beara Peninsula.

Visit our excellent food and craft markets on Friday, Saturday and in the summer Sunday as well. The Friday market in Bantry has masses of bric-a-brac and there are several interesting second hand Treasure Troves to explore as well.

Bantry House with it's stunning location overlooking Bantry Bay is open to the public. The Bantry Demesne has been in the White family since the mid 1700's.

For gardeners: follow the Garden Trail through the summer and visit some of the most interesting gardens in W Cork. Also, don't miss Garnish Island: One man's dream of an Island Garden. You are taken there by boat and also visit the seal colony.

Carmel Somers runs one of Ireland's best cookery Schools at 'The Good Things Cafe' about 10mins from us.

Take some time out, stay with us in Dromforde, and become enchanted by West Cork.

We would very much appreciate it if you could check in best between 4.00pm and 6.00pm, thank you and we look forward to sharing our home with you.

  • This was such a charming farmhouse with a spectacular garden. So enjoyed our fresh fruit salad and yogurt every morning. Really yummy! Bill and Brigid really were excellent hosts and ensured we were comfortable in everyday.

  • Brigid and Bill were absolutely lovely and this little farmhouse/b and b was the everything I could have asked for and more. Fresh cookies and water were on my nightstand. The bedroom and bathroom were so beautifully decorated. Breakfast in the morning was lovely and so fresh, and Brigid and Bill were the nicest hosts, giving me time to chat with them as well as just relax on my own. I will definitely be back and would recommend this for anyone who loves charming and quaint. Super comfy. Definitely felt like a home away from home!

  • This is an utterly charming place. The weather was fantastic, so it was possible to breakfast in the garden but staying in the cottage would be blissful come rain or shine. The house, garden, location and view are lovely and Brigid and Bill are as lucky as can be to live there all the time. It was simply delightful to spend a night here with such kind and thoughtful hosts. Truly a memorable experience.

  • We loved our stay at Dromforde in May - with Brigid and Bill's gardens coming to life, we started mornings outside with our coffee, enjoying the view of fields up the valley and the movements of local farmers with their sheepdogs and animals. Hearty breakfasts of fresh fruits, gorgeous local sausages, farm fresh eggs and home baked bread set us up well to tour West Cork during the days. Evenings we came home to a fire laid in the large traditional farmhouse fireplace in our private sitting room, and Brigid and Bill ready to suggest possible routes for the next day. They made us feel most comfortable and welcome in their home.

  • This place is heaven on earth! An absolutely wonderful experience. The best breakfast I've had in Ireland! And 2 lovely dogs to go along with it :) Thank you for an amazing stay! Recommending Bill and Brigid to everyone I know.

  • Bill and Brigid were wonderful hosts, and incredibly kind! I had some troubles with transportation and they were kind enough to pick me up, take me on a wee drive around the area, and drop me in town for dinner. Great warm welcome, wonderful conversation, and a beautiful home. By far my favorite stay of my trip, and if I'm ever in Ireland again, I will definitely be staying. Bill and Brigid are not to be missed! Thank you! (:

  • Staying with Brigid and Bill at their charming farmhouse was one of the best moments of my girlfriend and I's trip to Ireland. Unfortunately we only stayed one night, but we'd go back to Ireland just to stay here again. They were truly wonderful hosts, offering us tea at our arrival and making us an delicious breakfast in the morning. The room and living space are incredibly cozy with a fireplace and books to explore. I can't recommend staying here enough!

About
We love this area and we love living with the history of a West Cork farmhouse. We enjoy walking with our dog and nothing 'detoxes' the mental system and feeds the spirit better than a walk on a wild, stormy beach. Living in the countryside puts us in touch with the passing of the seasons and the beautiful, ever changing, range of colours on the hills in front of Dromforde tell the time of the year to us. Bill plays Golf at Bantry, the most friendly club you couild wish for and with views to die for. We both garden, Bill tends to do the planting while Brigid does the weeding but we both share the pleasure of eating all the fruit and veg that we grow. Brigid is an avid reader while Bill is the typical 'Shed man', mending making or just tinkering in his workshop. Together with one of our sons, Toby, we have a company, Greenhus, building Passive and low energy timber frame houses in Ireland. A new venture for Bill but learning a new and better sustainable way of living, from Toby, has been a rewarding challenge for both of us. Our other son is doing very well in the Music Business in London playing in several critically aclaimed Jazz and Ska bands. We both wish to welcome you to Dromforde.
