The Space

The Exchange Building, completed in 1910 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was refitted in 1996 to house 202 attractive efficiencies, one and two bedroom apartments, penthouses, and handicap equipped units. While the building has undergone a series of renovations, every effort has been made to preserve its historic features, such as the original mosaic tiles, an early-1900’s era Tennessee marble staircase, the elaborate plasterwork, and the granite surfaces. The towering marble ceilings of the lobby exude the elegance of downtown living.

Located in the heart of the Downtown Neighborhood – near the nightlife, restaurants, and shopping – our apartments are the ideal home base for exploring the city. Living in a 19-story skyscraper allows a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River. Walk outside and explore the rich, dense neighborhood. Fine dining is offered within blocks at renowned restaurants such as Rendezvous!, The Majestic Grille, or Flights. Enjoy a pint at the neighborhood Irish pub, The Brass Door, or make the three-minute drive to Beale Street and relish in its famous bars such as Silky O’Sullivans, Alfred’s, or Bardog Tavern. You could also take the trolley to Beale St, to the Pyramid, or around the downtown area, since there is a trolley stop a block away.

The apartments provide a homey feel with a luxurious touch and high-quality amenities. Several of the units located on the higher floors provide our residents a spectacular view. Units come with a kitchen, fully equipped with refrigerator, microwave, oven/stove, pots/pans, and dishes. The Management office on the first floor is ready to assist you during business hours, and, as many of my residents already know, I am always just a phone call away. A laundry room with coin-operated machines and a gym on the top floor are easily accessible through the three elevators. The 1511 is a one bedroom, one bathroom unit with large windows perfect for enjoying the view atop one of Memphis’s skyscrapers. The small, yet open living room forms the center of the unit, giving it a close feel. Think a hotel room, but much more like home. Enjoy watching the trolley roll by on Main St. from our cozy 1511 unit.

There are public metered spots all around the building. Since parking is not always available, we provide parking passes for a nearby parking garage (1 block away) at the price of $10/day. Note that these prices are non-negotiable since the garage is operated by a separate business.

Situated at an unbeatable location with competitive pricing, our apartments are a click away from becoming your future home or weekend getaway. Let yourself be inspired by the view and invigorated by the bustling and lively neighborhood. Rest up in our comfortable abodes and make sure to spend enough time exploring the giant playground that is the City of Memphis. Come home and enjoy the many amenities, such as the laundry room and the gym, and the luxurious construction and styling of The Exchange Building Apartments. • Nina was readily available when I called her prior to my arrival as well as during the entire stay! She was happy to get me wi-fi information and even gave me an umbrella! The room was even better than I expected. The furniture and decorations were cute and up to date. I had a great view on the 12th floor and was thrilled to find a place this nice at the price point within walking distance of the FedEx Forum!

  • Basic apartment. Walking distance from Beale St. Pay parking structure or minimal metered street parking available. Secure building access. Building in the process of being remodeled. Apartment itself recently remodeled.

  • I'm not sure what to make of my time in Memphis. Everyone I talked to regarding this property were extremely friendly, but it just seemed like everything was a hassle. I was in this unit for about 28 days and in that time, I only had working Internet for about 10. I was also given a handful of different connections to try over that time period. The building itself is being renovated, but currently it seems a bit dangerous. I was an an elevator that dropped half a floor and after taking the stairs one day, I saw the fire exit door was blocked by a scaffold. Other than those issues and a few others, the room itself was pleasant and it's located right next to a good portion of Main St. I'm not sure if I would ever recommend this place or not to be honest.

  • This was a great place to stay. Walk out the door to Beale Street or to the river front. Catch a trolley to the Civil Rights Museum and have lunch at the oldest diner in Memphis, or catch a bus to mid town and check out some live music on the square. It is all right there. And don't worry about parking, arrangements are easily made with the parking garage just one block away. Nina, the receptionist, was very friendly and available to answer any questions and help us with whatever we needed. We had a great time in this clean and comfortable apartment.

  • The place was what we expected and the location was excellent! Sardor and Nina were very friendly!

  • We arrived quite late and had no hassle when we arrived, the security guard Dave showed us our room and directed us somewhere to eat, that was cheap. We met Nina the following morning who helped us with the internet. The place was well situated, and perfect for what we needed, clean and comfortable.

The gym is ok but needs some attention. It's a multi-gym that has lost the majority of its pins, and the pull down section doesn't work.

If you are paying extra money for use of a gym I wouldn't.

All that said the apartment is great, we cooked, breakfast, dinner and lunch. Totally private and a 5 minute walk to Beale St.

  • Room is basic - location convenient to all attractions. Building in midst of renovations and dated, but I suspect when completed, would be nice. Only one elevator working - so waits can be longer than usual for elevator. Cable is basic - should consider upgrading to sports package and other channels like TBS - seems frivolous, but these days many people want to watch shows on specialty channels. Overall average experience - price was reasonable.

  • My experience with Sardor was great. The room that we originally booked was unavailable due to maintenance so he upgraded us to a sweet! The space was very large with tall ceilings, kitchen, dining room, living room, and 4 bedrooms. The building is in a great location, close to Beale street where all of the action is. The room also had information on what restaurants were close by, maps of the city, and places to visit. Definitely stay with Sardor when you are visiting Memphis.

  • Very convenient location, and very friendly employee (Nina). considering there were no rooms available at hotels in Memphis - we were happy with this room. Please note that carpet was dirty In the apartment, and 2 of the 3 elevators were out of order. Cable and internet were not working, and bed was not very comfortable - but the price is right and the location was awesome.

  • We had an above average experience staying here. The hosts stayed in contact and were easy to get a hold of. The neighborhood was nice, close enough to walk to Beale St but far enough away you didn't have to worry about noise. Some really good restaurants (Eighty3 was amazing and one block over) right in the area. When we arrived, we were given an apartment on the 19th floor, with a great view of the Mississippi and downtown. Our hosts also left a bottle of wine (it was our honeymoon), which was a really nice touch. The lobby of the building seemed a little sketchy (elevators out of order, some weird graffiti in the working elevator, etc.) but at no point did we feel worried for our safety, just a little strange. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting Memphis, overall well worth the (website hidden)- Invest in the parking pass, street parking is almost non-existent within blocks of this building.

I was born in Uzbekistan and raised in Memphis. I'm the middle child, with 2 older brothers and 2 younger sisters -- and recently a 4 time uncle! I've been fortunate to travel the world in my early years and learned a lot about the different cultures around the world. I enjoy learning about geopolitical history, architecture, and technological advancements that benefit the myriad societies around the globe. To me, Memphis is an exciting city that competes with the great cities of the world as a worthwhile stop for play and leisure. Allow me to host you in my apartments, located in the historic Exchange Building in downtown Memphis.
