I am pleased and excited to announce that this house has been graced by none other than Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein of Portlandia for a sketch entitled "Rent-It-Out!" More Portlandia photos coming soon…
Master bedroom in my home surrounded by gardens, an art studio and gallery. This is in the Cully neighborhood, walking distance to the Alberta Arts District where you will find restaurants, cafes, art galleries, boutiques, and carts full of hand crafted, locally-made goods. This is a food, art and music town and here in Cully we get the best of both worlds: park-like settings in our large backyards full of edibles and ornamentals AND all of the art, food and music you could wish for on Alberta. This house is right near major bus lines taking you to the MAX, Portland's mass transit high-speed train. We are walking distance to New Season's, the best grocery store on earth, Common Ground, a day and evening spa/sauna, McMenamin's Kennedy School, Concordia Ale House and the well-loved, well-attended Last Thursday on Alberta Street, an artisan/craft/art/music/food festival happening every month.
This room is spacious at 250 sq. ft. including a huge walk-in closet, one Full-Size Bed, and a curtain separating the bed space from the rest of the space. The rest of the space is large enough for any personal practice such as yoga, meditation or sprawling out with a good book.
The house has three rooms total, all B&B rooms, and one shared bathroom. You have access to common spaces in the living room/gallery, kitchen, front porch and gorgeous back yard full of gardens and grass for your lounging pleasure. I welcome you to some refrigerator space and shelf space in the kitchen.
I am a ceramic artist and work in the studio separate from the house. Lessons may be arranged by appointment if you are curious!
The pictured baby grand piano is used by Portland vocalist Jonathan Brinkley to teach voice lessons from time to time. His sessions are playful, inspiring, refreshing, and benefit more than just singing. He is available should you decide you'd like an impromptu lesson!
your own bedroom and shared spaces such as the kitchen, bathroom, living room and yard.
I hope to be here to greet you and show you the space. I keep myself busy with artwork, business and a full time job, otherwise.
the #75 bus can take you to the Hollywood transit center in less than ten minutes. From there you can catch the max to anywhere in or out of town. also, there is a bike rental place in the 'hood!

Our stay with Jennifer was short and sweet: we only spent one weekend night, and it was lovely. Jennifer was very prompt and helpful communicating over the email, and she was very friendly in person when we arrived to her house Saturday afternoon. The place is bright, clean and welcoming. Jennifer's artwork adds to the atmosphere and so does the grand piano in the living room. Both dogs are nice and gentle. Had it not been so rainy we would have had a better chance to appreciate the beautiful back yard (hopefully, next time).
The bed was super comfortable, sharing the bathroom worked well. All in all, we enjoyed the place and appreciated Jennifer's hospitality. Cool house in a cool part of Portlandia :)
From the moment we arrived we could see that the hosts were
1) not really comfortable having people in their home
2) we in turn didn't feel comfortable as jennifer the "artist" although she is trying to be pleasant and doing her best in having people sharing her space that includes the bathroom and the kitchen ! 3)basically we used airbnb to save money which we did to a degree esp in san francisco where we had a pleasant airb&b experience however the 2 previous nights in the portland area we paid actually less
4) we having travelled extensively using b & b,s and other accommodation around the world
we found this place really funny and it has a distinct atmosphere not conducive to having a relaxed stay unfortunately we were stuck in the place as it was snowing quite heavily during our stay (beg february)
5) we further found
a) no microwave no electric kettle
b) dirty mosquito nets hanging from the ceiling
c) no couch to sit in the room actually no table also
d) the bed though small was ok with very nice duvet
e) in the kitchen we used a small red table but when jennifer saw me leaning a little on it she made an uneasy comment to be careful
but nothing happened the table was fine
f)it looks like these hosts are not really qualified and suitable to have people in a B & B setting,in fact it is not a b&b just a place to sleep with a arty lady ( potter) and her partner
g) jennifer cooks late and the smell of the cooking hangs around the whole house; the boyfriend forgets to close the bathroom door and we see him doing a big one
h)it is to her credit that she drove us in the snow to the shopping centre because we didn't know how to get there
i) even though we had to drive on a very icy slippery road we left as soon as we could to get away from this place
we ended up paying $75 per night which we think is expensive
and overcharged for what you get ,and if you do not mind to live on top of each other and crowded and being watched just about all the time that is the place .
This is an unfortunate backfire to the truly honest review I left for these folks. I can understand being upset and feeling defensive about such a strong review. And I stand by my experience: these folks are difficult to host and thoughtless in a variety of ways. I wish you all better experiences in your future travels! As for me, I love to host and keep a clean, hospitable and interesting space. The reviews from all of my guests prior to Burt and Ling point to this. Original review follows: Ling and Burt were less than gracious and inconsiderate in many ways. It was difficult to have them as guests as they did not respect my space and lacked common courtesy. Instances such as leaving a very heavy bag hanging from my fancy, decorative bathroom mirror (could have torn mirror from wall had I not caught it in time!) and leaving the front door wide open every time they came and went during the biggest ice and snow event of the year are among a few of the instances I will point to. As they were leaving, Ling announced they were leaving. And that was all. There was no good-bye, thank you for having us or anything of the sort. Burt did not say a word or even look in our direction as he departed. Guests like these are few and far between and certainly tax me in the hospitality department. My advice to Burt and Ling is to find accommodations in big box hotels that can handle less than courteous and pleasant interactions without sharing their own personal living space and can support careless behavior with their property.
Jennifer is a super host and her place is great!
The room was very comfortable for my brother and I - two tall guys who need a lot of space. It's on an excellent location to explore Concordia, the coolest neighborhood in PDX.
Highly recommend it.
I was in town two nights for a wedding. Location fit my needs. House was nice, quiet. Bed was comfortable. Jennifer was a gracious host and I would definitely stay there again. Thanks, Jennifer.
I really loved staying at Jen's! The location is ideal. I had a private entrance. And I slept like a baby in the super comfy bed. I really appreciated Jen's easy to navigate instructions. And her organic lifestyle. I hope to stay again. Thanks Jen!
I stayed five nights with my grown daughter at Jennifer's artist studio/home. The accommodations were perfect for the two of us with two comfy beds and big down comforters. As promised, the location is close to public transportation and within an easy mile or two walk to all the shops and restaurants in the Alberta district. At Jennifer's recommendation, I spent a couple hours eating pie and sipping coffee at Random Order on Alberta. I'll be back on my next visit to Portland.
I had a lovely stay at Jennifer's beautiful house. Although I didn't get to meet Jennifer, I felt really at home and comfortable. Check in was easy and the room was great with a super comfy bed. The piano was a welcomed bonus! It was reasonably easy to get around as Alberta arts district was 2 blocks walk, and bus stop was at end of street which provided connection to local train network.
I didn't get to meet Jennifer when I was there but her home is very nice. It has a very artistic chic about it. The bedroom that I stayed in was very comfortable. It's very convenient to the airport and has great parking.
This is a lovely spot to land. Jennifer was very accommodating and as our plans morphed, she went out of her way to help us. The room was lovely, the beds extremely comfortable, the hostess very kind and laid-back. The house is well-tended and the gallery living room is full of stunning pottery and lovely to spend time in. The neighborhood is great and a walking distance to all sorts of funky Portlandia. Enjoy this spot~
My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay this past October. Although Jennifer was out of the house upon our arrival she contacted us soon after to ensure all was in order. Jennifer home is extremely welcoming and beautifully decorated. For those looking for a cozy place to stay we recommend staying with Jennifer.
