About this listing
Enjoy this extremely private, secluded cottage estate, situated on its own 5 acre peninsula with 1700 feet of bay front exposure with spectacular sunsets and our own sandy, child friendly, swimmable beach with private dock for guests' boat (max.30" draft) or have fun with our canoe, kayak or Laser II sailboat. Or just chill on our waterfront hammock or beach or have a sunset dinner or bonfire virtually on the water. And you are always invited to take the chill off the evening in front of the very inviting fireplace or warm up the ivories of the Baldwin B.... if you are so musically inclined!
Constructed in the 1920's as part of one of the South Fork's largest estates, the house is furnished with antiques and has a paneled and beamed great room and front porch with sunset exposure and an expansive view of the wildlife refuge across the bay. Every room has a water view. It is surrounded by perennial and rose gardens with an herb garden for the serious gourmand.
This room has a view of the harbor beyond the front porch. It is furnished with a queen size double bed, small dresser with 3/4 length mirror, loveseat, a small armchair and a generous hanging closet. It is airconditioned but has no TV. It shares a bathroom (shower) with a smaller guest bedroom. Subject to prior arrangement and an additional charge, most dogs are welcome in this room.
As a long time lover of nature and the great outdoors, with a healthy interest in the arts, and a great appreciation for the beauty of nature, there is no better place to live than in this warm house on this little peninsula, thrust out into the 'sea' with immediate access to all the advantages and recreation offered by the Hamptons and easy access to all of the culture and diversity of New York City. I have never lived, visited or vacationed anywhere that offered a more cathartic life experience!
Southampton village and ocean beaches are within a 10 minute drive or an easy bike ride. Within minutes of five championship golf courses (Shinnecock, National, Sebonack, Atlantic and Maidstone) and easily accessible to all East End fishing grounds - a fly fishing 'paradise'! A relaxing stroll through Southampton, Sag Harbor, Watermill. Bridgehampton and Easthampton villages is only minutes away unless you'd prefer the outlets in Riverhead. Of course the best compliment so often received from guests has been "...why would we want to leave such a beautiful spot!"
Guests will have full access to and use of the public areas of the house and grounds and some outdoor amenities such as private beach, dining area, seating and hammock, sun umbrellas, fire pit, etc. By special advance request, guests may also have use of outdoor 'toys' such as the canoe, kayak and Laser II sailboat.

About the Host, Peter
Young in outlook and heart Architect, semi-retired after many years of running a busy practice based in Park Slope, Brooklyn, who has lived many happy, successful and fulfilling years. At any given time you might find me working in the flower, vegetable or herb gardens, skiing in Vermont or more distant, out on the harbor for a quick sail or cruising to or fishing at Nantucket or points between, cooking in the kitchen or biking on a back road, visiting some exotic corner of the world, or just watching the sunset from my porch, meditating on my beach or with a good book or friends discussing the world in front of the fire. You might even find me dining outdoors with friends around the bonfire, or completing a perennial construction project around the house and, occasionally, perhaps even working over the drawing board or computer! And I will admit to just chilling out at times on the porch with a morning coffee or an evening drink and the occasional cigarette or Cubano!
I am very fortunate to have a great life and be able to live in one of the most wonderful corners of a well travelled world. And it is only made more enjoyable by sharing it with family, friends.... and new AIRBnB Guests.
