We spent 5 nights in Nicola's place and we absolutely loved it. Nicola is an amazing host. He arranged a baby cot for our newborn and patiently waited for two hours when we were delayed. By the way, the view and surroundings are absolutely stunning. You don't have to leave the house to enjoy Toscany, but do so!
We arrived in Cortona for a Tuscan wedding and arranged to stay at the Window on Cortona. As a host, Nicola could not have been more helpful even to the extent of picking us up from the train station and taking us to the villa. The villa itself is stunning, with plenty of room in a secluded olive grove, on a hillside about 4-5km away from Cortona. Rooms were well kept and clean and we had everything that we needed to make our short stay perfect (although for us Scots & Irish who like our tea, a kettle may be worthwhile adding).
This villa is perfect if you are travelling by car and wish to explore Tuscany. Cortona is a picturesque town filled with great restaurants and bars.
As a host, Nicola and his father went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable - to the extent of getting a set of jump leads when the battery on a friend's car went dead. Could not recommend this secluded villa highly enough :-)
Thank you Gabriele for your suggestions: I will check the table-ware as I had many cups..may some previous guest broke some of them. Also for the knife it is strange as there were 2 long and very good knives.
For the washing machine I will ask the cleaning lady to pay more attention.
Also I will provide some Cortona's guide :) I tought that with internet available it is easy to find info, but you are right, something nice to see and read is aslways important.
Thanks and best wishes to you and your family
Nicola is a very nice helpful person. although he is not living at the house he always answered our mails and messages in minutes and came to the house immediately when it is needed. The location of the house is what we exactly wanted from our vacation: In the country side, isolated but within short drive to the city. The house is very big, it is actually two big apartments, but as of now the upper apartment is less conveniently accessed, therefore the house is for one large family. The sunsets from every window of the house is beautiful.
Great host. Responded promptly to any questions we had!
Beautiful farm house on an old olive grove.
House was very relaxing with beautiful views of Cortona.
Great place to stay if you have your own car.
This house has everything you might need for a comfortable stay next to Cortona. Everything was clean and nicely presented. You need a car to get around. Nicola, his father, and Simona were very helpful in explaining and giving tips. Would recommend!
Casa Vacanze La Finestra su Cortona (sounds so much better in its native tongue…) sums things up perfectly A large typically Italian country house of recent construction with modern bathrooms and 2 fully equipped kitchens, this property is located high on a hill with stunning views of the fertile valley below and of the lovely Renaissance hill town of Cortona facing it. In Tuscany near the border with Umbria, you are quite literally surrounded by history. It provides an ideal base to explore these beautiful regions with their lush farms, orchards and vineyards and legendary cities and towns.
The house is surrounded by olive trees and a lovely terrace providing a spectacular vista of the surroundings. At the end of a quaint and narrow country road rising from the valley, La Finestra su Cortona provides solitude and relaxation. And yet it’s central location places you 10 minutes from modern supermarkets in the contemporary town of Camucia, or, heading in the opposite direction along scenic country roads, a 10 minute drive from Cortona itself.
Of special note to those traveling with large families is the property’s 2 kitchens, 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms, allowing plenty of space and privacy for an extended stay in this storied area.
Our host Nicola and friend Simona were warm, welcoming, and attentive without being obtrusive, assuring that our needs were perfectly seen to. We can highly recommend this beautifully situated treasure in the Italian countryside.
