House - Shared room · San Mateo, CA 94401, United States

The HackerHome Network
Whether you're new to the Valley, bored with your current housing or need a transient place... I would like to help. When you reserve with me, you'll have instant friends and be part of a network of 10 homes in the Bay Area.

The Space

Newly built custom home with an open kitchen and living room.

4 bedrooms - 1 private room and 3 shared rooms
3 full bathrooms

Guest Access

All utilities are included and the WIFI is fast!

Clean linens/bedding are provided + a fresh towel.

Why would someone say light cooking? Home prepped meals really warms up the house and it's encouraged.

Interaction with Guests

It's a house full of people & different schedules. So please use ear plugs if necessary. If you're a light sleeper or can't sleep on a single mattress, this may not be the right place for you.

We are a very communal/respectful group and strive to provide space for everyone to work and hangout. Remember that work, musical instruments and books take precedence over the television.

The Neighborhood

This is the suburbs of San Mateo, but it's a 5 minute walk to restaurants, shopping and grocery stores.

Getting around

Only a 10-15 minute walk to San Mateo Caltrain and downtown San Mateo.

Too tired to walk? We have bikes you can use that will swiftly get you places fast!

Other Things to Note

More than one suitcase? Consult with me prior to making your reservation.

Respectful Housing for Women
Females in a separate room. If you'd like to stay in the girls' room, please check with me on availability before reserving. If you don't have a preference, then just make your reservation.

The Airbnb cleaning fee is to make sure you have a clean bed upon arrival and not to clean up after you. All spaces are shared, so please be mindful of picking up after yourself. If you're a longer term guest, remember to use one bath towel and wash it with your own load of laundry.

  • HackerHome, thank you soooooo much! It was a perfect stay. Open minded people, talkative and fun!! I had a great time and was more than happy to choose this opportunity for my stay in San Mateo.
Hope there will be space for me at the next time as well ;-)

  • I had a great time in San Mateo, and enjoyed everyone I met at the house.

    February 2014
  • The place was clean, organized and quiet. Had a great time with quality people.

    January 2014
  • A seriously great experience. Vic was more than accommodating at every turn. The people I met are awesome. Comfy bunk beds. Nice house. All problems or inconveniences are dealt with quickly by Vic and Yong, though few arose. Will definitely stay here again!

  • Hackerhome is awesome. Everyone I met there was both friendly and respectful, the whole house is really nice and always clean, and even though it's tucked off the main drag it's still just a quick (~15 minute at my pokey pace) walk through a quiet suburb to get to downtown and transit.

Vic was always friendly and helpful, and kept me up-to-date on any changes at the house. He was also incredibly understanding about my crazy travel / work schedule and the weird bookings that resulted from it.

The only suggestion I would have is to make sure you bring a sleeping mask and earplugs even if you're a deep sleeper - roommates are human and will occasionally unwittingly flip a light on or somesuch after you've gone to sleep.

I had a great time staying at Hackerhome, and if work ever brings me back to the Bay Area I'll know exactly where to look.

    September 2013
  • Vic's hostel is great. It's clean, well run, and I met some amazing people.

    August 2013
  • Nice recently renovated home. Meet interesting people. Amenities: wireless + in-unit washer / dryer + soap and towels + back patio + driveway or street parking + near grocery store and a couple restaurants + right off 101 highway + other stuff to come. Good hosts.

    August 2013
  • The HackerHome in San Mateo was fantastic - the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living area were all clean, the other guests were interesting / engaging without crowding each other's space, and the location was great (and there was a deck in the back yard!). In the course of my 10-day visit, there was a range of visitors, from hackers on internships, MakerFaire participants, and folks looking for a comfortable but temporary space while they searched for something permanent. In a shared space, the most important thing is a good vibe, and everyone at the house was courteous and respectful. I'd highly recommend staying at the HackerHome in San Mateo, and will do so my next time in the Bay Area!
