Great location, laid back and hands- off hosts, and completely private and detached garage apartment. Walk to dozens of shops, restaurants and bars, and just a 3 mile drive to King Street. There is no TV!! Most guests like this - some don't, just an FYI.

The Space

This is a cool, clean, modern detached garage apartment in Charleston's coolest neighborhood- Avondale. Avondale has been named coolest neighborhood 3 years running by Charleston City Paper, and it's easy to see why. Walk or bike to over a dozen pubs, restaurants, shops, salons, yoga studios, etc... including Pearlz, Al di la, Triangle, The Glass Onion, Mex 1, Gene's Haufbrau and The Roost, all just a block or so away from the apartment. We are only 3 miles to the heart of historic downtown Charleston, and only 20 minutes to Folly, Sullivan's or Isle of Palms. We are also only a few blocks from the West Ashley greenway- a local biking/walking/running path that cuts through the city. It's a great way to get your exercise in, or to get over to South Windemere shopping center to do a little eating at Med Bistro or shopping at Half Moon Outfitters. The apartment is a true studio- with no walls separating living areas, and just a curtain up for the modest in the bathroom, but it's charming and clean, and you can't beat the location. Fully equipped kitchen as well. There is no TV- there is wifi but it's spotty, don't say you weren't warned!

Guest Access

You will have access to beach chairs, a beach Umbrella and a cooler if you would like. Anything else, just ask and we will try to accommodate !

Interaction with Guests

We try to meet all guests face to face upon check in if possible, but occasionally leave a key under the mat if we aren't going to be around. Other than that- we don't interact with guests much unless we see each other coming and going in the driveway. Feel free to approach us with questions, but we understand how guests prefer privacy on vacation, and we try to respect this.

The Neighborhood

You can walk to grab a bite or a beer.... The live oak trees...lots of community activities... The church bells.

Getting around

A car is the best way to get downtown- even though it's only a few miles a way there is no bike lane on the Ashley River bridge- so unless you are an experienced bike rider - I would drive- but once you are downtown, walking or biking is the best way to see everything. Closer to home, here in Avondale, almost everything is within walking or biking distance, and it's easy to get around that way. Taxis are fairly inexpensive as well, and there is a city bus that stops a block away, but Charleston isn't known for its public transit, so I can't vouch for it. There are also water taxis that can take you to Mount Pleasant and back!

Other Things to Note

There is a tall set of stairs leading up to the apartment and the shower is pretty small.

Check In
  • This was our first airbnb experience and it was great. The apartment was just as discribed and expected. Brett and Shannon were great working with us as our arrival time ended up being later than expected. There was beer, wine, water and other basics in the frig when we arrived. Great location super close to many resturants, grocery stores ect. Quick trip into downtown Charelston or the beach. We enjoyed both. Used the grill to have a nice dinner in one night.

  • Brett and Shannon were the perfect hosts. We greatly enjoyed our time in Charleston and loved staying in their apartment. They had great tips on things to do from a local's perspective, which we used frequently to plan our days. The apartment was also walking distance from all the avondale bars and restaurants and a yoga studio. If you are looking for a comfortable, fully equipped location just outside of downtown Charleston, this is it!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Everything we needed was there and more from shampoo and condition to beer and wine. Excellent neighborhood with plenty of great restaurants within walking distance. Would definitely stay here again if in the area

  • This was our first AirBNB experience, and thanks to Brett & Shannon, it was perfect! The apartment is exactly as pictured. They provided some snacks and drinks which was great when we arrived late night after a long flight. The menus and suggestions for places to go around town were fantastic. It was the perfect amount of space for my fiance and I, and it was much easier to settle into this comfy space for the weekend than a hotel somewhere. We met Shannon & Brett very briefly during our stay, and they were incredibly friendly and helpful when needed. Thanks again!

  • Brett and Shannon were great hosts! Their sweet little apartment was the perfect place from which to explore Charleston. We were so appreciative of the list of suggestions for things to do, hand-drawn map of the neighborhood and all the menus for local restaurants. The apartment itself was cozy and comfortable, just right for two. The neighborhood was the perfect location - it was easy to get to downtown Charleston, the beach, etc, but there was also lots to walk to when we didn't feel like driving. It was such a pleasure to meet this friendly, helpful couple too. Thanks again, Brett and Shannon! I'll be back if I have the opportunity to return to Charleston!

  • What a perfect set up for an air bnb experience. It was located in a sweet, quaint neighborhood, just a short drive to the city center. It was nicely appointed and we felt like we were at home.
I can't wait for my next visit!

  • Thanks, Shannon for greeting us and providing great tips. We loved your neighborhood and walking for a wonderful dinner after a long drive. Your place was perfect--cute, cozy and comfortable. Nice to have a bit of a kitchen to work with for morning beverages, etc. Bed was lovely--especially liked the linens!
    Great first experience for us.

  • Great place to stay near Charleston w/o being downtown, only 10 minutes away, plus a great neighborhood near the apartment too. Clean, comfortable and with the best collection of visitor suggestions I've encountered in an Airbnb experience. Would return in a heartbeat.

  • Brett & Shannon's place was a great fit for my trip to Charleston. It's close to downtown and not far from Folly. It was clean and cozy. Shannon's handwritten note waiting for us when we arrived detailing a local farmer's market and close grocery stores was a nice personal touch. I would definitely recommend their listing to anyone looking for a place to stay in Charleston!

  • Lovely clean room in a quiet, suburban area of Charleston. Easy to access the apartment and the hosts were really helpful. Only thing to know is you definitely need a car if you are staying here.

We are an easy going couple with a spare apartment in a great neighborhood! Brett grew up in downtown Charleston, and I have been here for 20 years, so between the two of us we can give lots of tips on how to best enjoy this amazing town. When we aren't in Charleston, we love to travel ourselves, once we even spent a whole month camping across Australia. On our most recent adventure to Grand Teton National Park we were chased by a curry-loving bear. Seriously.
