The Space

Enjoy your stay on a 1988 Nordic Tug!! This boat is perfect for 2 people and can accommodate up to 4. All the amenities of an apartment but on the water. The boat is moored on the north end of lake Union, less than a mile from Fremont (otherwise known as the center of the universe). Fremont is a great place to eat, shop and play! And if you want to checkout downtown Seattle, the bus (very convenient, 15 min bus ride) is just a few blocks away from the dock. There are sometimes bikes available as well, with advanced notice. Also, I will gladly take you out on the water if you have an interest (I do charge a small fee for my time and gas) I want you to really enjoy your stay, so you tell me what you want and I will help make it happen :-)

Bedroom/stateroom - There is one stateroom located in the front/bow of the boat. There is a small bench and a bed/berth that sleeps two comfortably.

Bathroom/head - There is one head located in the front/bow of the boat. It contains a pump toilet and a separate shower. It is small but very usable. The boat contains a 6 gallon hot water heater, so it's great for one shower or two quick showers. The head also contains a sink and a large mirror.

Living quarters - The main cabin is located towards the aft/rear and is a relatively large space. It has a built in sitting area that can seat 5-6 and will also fold out to make a queen sized berth/bed.

Kitchen/galley - The galley is located in the main living quarters. The stove is a two burner propane stove with a small oven. There is a microwave and a small sink with filtered water. I have a large folding table that can be used to eat on. Also, on the back deck there is a small propane BBQ.

Bonus room - This is what I like to use as the entrance. It is located midship and has a cabin door on each side of the boat.

Deck - Starting at the stern/back of boat. There is a cockpit/outdoor area at the stern/back of boat. This area contains a ladder to the upper deck and a hatch for entrance to the living quarters. The Upper deck has a railing all the way around and is a great place to watch the sun drop behind the Ballard bridge.

Boat location - The boat is located on a dock which has a few floating homes and other boats on it. The dock is in a very unique place with giant fishing boats, business offices liveaboard boats close by. The water is almost always calm due to being located in a tucked away marina.

Surrounding area - At first glance you might not realize what a perfect location you are in. You will be in walking distance (less than a mile) from Wallingford, University district, and Fremont. And within 2 miles you can add Green lake, Phinney Ridge and Ballard. Each one of these neighborhoods has its own unique twist. Each one has some of the best bars and restaurants in the city. If you like live music, the Tractor Tavern is one of my favorite venues (Ballard). If you are in town on Sunday, make sure you check out the farmers market in Fremont or Ballard. Great local produce and a wonderful environment to just hangout in. Other notable areas worth checking out are: Downtown (5 miles), International District (6 miles), Belltown (4), South Lake Union (3 miles), Golden Gardens (3 miles), Discovery park (4 miles). I would be happy to recommend things to do, as well. Also, I will do my best in helping you get around.

Disclaimer - This is a boat not the Four Seasons. This is a comfortable boat but by no means is it super luxurious. I keep the boat clean and cared for but it is an old boat. It has been used. I don't want to make this boat sound better than it is, although it is pretty awesome! It is on a dock near fishing boats and that can cause animals to be around. I have not had any problem with animals of any kind except maybe a bit of bird poop. But you should be aware of the different things you might experience when staying on any boat.

I have lived on this boat, in the same location, for about 2 years and have really enjoyed my time here and want you to enjoy your time here as well. Please contact me with any questions :-)

Interaction with Guests

I try and greet you when you arrive but that doesn't always happen. I should always be available by phone and encourage you to ask me anything, day or night... I am here to help make your stay perfect!

  • This was our first experience staying through Airbnb and staying on a boat so was not sure what to expect. Sean's boat had such an efficient use of space! One set of stairs were steep and the bathroom was definitely tight, but all the essentials for living were there. Sean was super quick to respond to any questions or issues. The location was convenient and parking was easy. We would recommend Sean's boat for the charm and an unique adventure.

  • Old Ballard is a great area to stay in, we will be back. Staying on a boat was fantastic, especially sitting on the top deck with our scotch and music, wrapped in blankets, watching the activity. The place needs to be cleaner. There needs to be a set of instructions for guests. We figured everything out but it certainly would have made it easier.

  • We didn't know anything about Seattle but didn't want to stay Downtown. So glad we found Ballard, we had a great time. Few tourists but plenty to see and do, great restaurants and regular local restaurants, cool converted old warehouses and lots of interesting neighborhoods to walk.
We enjoyed the view from Sean's boat- watching the working tugs and people sculling.
Sean was very helpful and responds quickly.

  • Sean is a great host with a great little spot by the Ballard bridge. With decent hotel prices topping $200/night, we wanted to try something a little different and a little more "Seattle" on our vacation...

Ballard is a fun neighborhood, centrally-located, with some fantastic little restaurants within walking distance. Trader Joe's is a block away to stock up on snacks and Top Pot is also there for your morning coffee and doughnuts. Downtown attractions are 10-15 minutes away by car, but even closer are the historic Ballard Locks on the Lake Washington Shipping Canal. Watch the ships go by, the salmon swim upstream or tour their meticulously maintained grounds...

The neighbors on the dock are very friendly and outgoing, willing to point you in the right direction (or even invite you over for a beverage!). Sean is also just a phone call away if you need anything... although we didn't, since our stay was awesome! Highly recommend!

  • The good: Interesting scenery, bird calls in the morning, relaxed escape

The bad: Smells, marine industrial noises, no storage (our luggage wound up on the floor)

  • Sean was very accommodating and staying on the tugboat was really fun. I highly recommend the experience for a unique view of Seattle.

  • Sean was prompt in response to my calls and questions. He made it possible for desert folk to figure out how to work things on his boat. I was pleasantly surprised with the bathroom. We watched many boats on the final night of Seafair, and the tugboat remained still. This young man was polite, considerate, and I highly recommend him and his tugboat!

  • Fantastic location at the end of the pier. Nice and private and quiet. Two blocks from Trader Joe's and Top Pot Donuts for internet access. The host was very hospitable.

  • We had an incredible time on the tug boat. Biked & walked all around the Ballard & Fremont neighborhoods. All our friends are jealous.

  • This was a truly unique experience. I was visiting my son in Ballard 7/24 through 7/27. We had long days planned and as a result I did not hang around on the boat that much. I used it as a base and place to sleep, returning each day after 11pm.

It is very conveniently located on the waterfront not far from the Ballard Bridge. There is a coffee/donut shop and a Trader Joe's within 2 blocks. Parking is very easy. Access to Ballard is great.

The private dock is secure with a locking gate.

This is a very nice vessel. It's very clean and neatly appointed with a unique charm. As one would expect, space is at a premium. The main compartment with the galley is pretty spacious and is a cool spot to hang out. It has a small galley stove and icebox. There is a large collection of spices and condiments to aid if you cook. All the basics are there.

The bridge or wheelhouse is the next biggest compartment.

The bunk is down below in the bow. It has a nice comfortable and large bed.

The weather was tremendous during my visit. The boat was cool during the night. Air flow is easy to control by opening doors and windows.

While I loved the experience one must decide if this is for them. If you're claustrophobic the bunk area might be intimidating. I liked it but I can see where others would not. If you don't move well, have bad knees or similar impairments, or are on the older side, you'll find the steps between rooms difficult. There are hand grips and you must use them.

One issue along these lines is boarding the boat from the dock. The sliding door to the boat is higher then the dock and one boards via a set of steps 3 that measures 3 steps high. It has a hand rail. You have to step across the water and into the hatch. Again, this is intimidating if you are not reasonably agile. I'm a fit 59 year old and I was okay. I did not take my main suitcase aboard. It was too heavy to put in via the steps. The stern is lower and perhaps you could put the suitcase on board back there. I kept my big suitcase at my son's and packed a briefcase-sized bag to go to the boat at night. I tossed it onboard. Not all travelers will have that option. Best to ask Sean how this is done.

If you are an experienced boater none of this will matter.

Sean is a great host. He kept in contact with me to make sure I was happy and accommodated. He communicates very well.

Overall the tug served my purposes very well. I enjoyed my time there. I like doing something different and the tug certainly provided me with a unique experience.
