Our historic condo has it all: high ceilings, original 1860s hardwood, a large deck with morning and afternoon sun. By walking, it's only ten minutes from Point Pleasant Park, ten minutes from the Seaport Market, and fifteen minutes to downtown.
This lovely 1870's historic property is right where Halifax's gorgeous south end meets downtown.
The condo itself has high ceilings, lots of natural light, and a large furnished deck with a flower garden. For the history buffs, the building was once the home Anna Leonowyns (of The King & I/NSCAD fame), and has a tremendous amount of character. Since the deck is south-facing, you can enjoy the sun.
There are limitless things to see and do in and around Halifax. As a frequenter of every coffee shop and pub within a half-hour walk (and there are many fantastic ones!), based on your interests, I can let you know what would be the right fit for you. There are two major grocery stores/liquor stores within a five-minute walk, and lots of amenities nearby. I will be reachable any time you have a question or need assistance.
I am an avid outdoorsperson, so if you would like any tips or routes for hiking, swimming, surfing, kayaking, bouldering/climbing, or canoeing, let me know! If I am available, I would be happy to serve as a guide.
Please let me know if there is anything else you need (or would like me to provide in advance) to make your stay more enjoyable.
Your room has a comfy double bed, dresser, lamp, and storage space. The living room is cozily furnished, with a comfortable sectional to relax on. Wi-fi is provided and a desk at which you can work. The building is small and quiet, and the unit has its own entrance in the front and back. When not travelling for my PhD research, I live in the other bedroom of this two-bedroom condo (that room will be inaccessible during your stay).
The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking (and has a dishwasher!). For your cooking and baking needs, there are lots of herbs and spices (including fresh herb plants!), oils & vinegars, and lots of baking (website hidden) from a local roaster and a selection of teas is also provided.
There is free street parking on the weekends (unfortunately, the weekdays are limited to two hours from 9AM to 5PM). If your stay is two nights or less, you may use the guest parking at the building. There is coin-op laundry on-site.
Interaction with Guests
As I will be out of town, my property manager Laura will be available to do the key exchange and help out if you need any assistance.
It is a ten minute walk from Point Pleasant Park, ten minutes from the ocean and the famous Seaport Market, and fifteen minutes from the harbour, nightlife, and shops at Spring Garden and Barrington. There is a bus stop directly in front of the building that will take you downtown in five minutes, and another stop right around the corner with routes that will whisk you anywhere.
As there are other owners in the condo building, please do not make excessive noise on the deck or in the common areas. Though small indoor gatherings are fine, absolutely no parties are to be had.
Host offered and gave good advice and recommendations prior to arrival. We asked her lots of questions during our planning process, and her reply was prompt, and freely offered advice. She offered flexibility for arriving and leaving, which made our life much easier, as we came in quite late, and left quite early. Location was fairly convenient with close proximity to grocery store, gas station, and walking distance to tourist destinations and downtown. If you want to cook, she has a very well stocked kitchen. One thing we were not used to was the traffic noise at night time.
Our stay in Halifax was fantastic! Alana's space was beautiful and welcoming, and Alana herself was incredibly easy to communicate with. Her home was close enough to walk to everything, but far enough that we weren't smack in the middle of downtown. Grocery stores and bakeries nearby meant that if we didn't eat out, we had lots of options to stay in. She was a fantastic host who gave us tailored recommendations for neighbourhoods and places to eat. Would very highly recommend!
Beautiful house in the South End. Place is just like in photos.
Alana was really helpful in advance of trip to see if we needed any help or recommendations. Would love to stay again if back in Halifax.
Alana's place is just as the pictures portray! My colleague and I were in town for a conference and then some exploring. Alana offered great suggestions for places to eat and sights to see...all of which were right up our alley. She also opened up her bedroom so that we'd each have our own room. It was easy to arrange key pick up and drop off and Alana was always quick to respond to emails. My only regret was not being able to meet her in person.
We had a great stay at Alana's condo on Inglis Street in Halifax. The flat was very much as described/pictured. The kitchen was well equipped (who knew that you could find decent sharp knives in a rental?) and Alana was more than generous with the basic supplies she made available. Lots of space in the living/dining area. The bedroom was small and basic but certainly adequate. Alana was out of town during our stay but Laura, her "deputy" greeted us warmly and was apparently available in case of any difficulties (we didn't have any!) A stay that convinced that we would be using airbnb again in the future.
Alana is great (communication was prompt and her recommendations excellent) and her condo is wonderful; plenty of room for two and ideally located in the south end of Halifax (and from what we've read, is currently voted the best place to live in Halifax, so don't miss out on an opportunity to stay here and live among the hip). The condo is tidy and fully furnished with all the comforts of home. We felt (email hidden) our meals and eating outside on the deck, and lounging in the spacious living room...a bonus of an on-site coin operated laundry was nice.
The condo is within a few short kilometers (on foot) to many, if not all, of what south Halifax has to offer. Highlights include:
-Henry House (great pub food in a historic building)
-Piatto (great Italian style pizza)
-Middle Spoon (delicious deserts and drinks)
-Atlantic Superstore (24 hour grocery store, perfect for those who wish to cook)
-Seaport Market (produce and artisan goods)
-Dee Dee's ice cream (north Halifax...approx. 40 min walk from condo and well worth it)
-The Public Garden (a must see)
-The Boardroom (eat, drink, and play board games from the selection of 400 different games until 2am)
-Halifax Wharf (endless choice of activities from boat tours, bicycle rental, Segway rental, walking trails, and food/snack options
So pack your comfy shoes and stay here for a true local Halifax experience.
Favorite place we stayed on our trip! The apartment is a short walk from downtown and the waterfront. Didn't need our car to get to anything.
We didn't get a chance to meet Alana, but she made sure we had everything we needed. She was very responsive and thoughtful. Wonderful host! We would definitely stay here again.

I am working on my PhD in biology/ecology at Dalhousie University, and spend as much time outside as possible. If I am around during your stay, I love showing off this town.
