Take over the downstairs floor of our rad house. We're in a great, super safe neighborhood, just a few minutes from downtown/Yale. Off street parking, easy access to public transportation and an easy bike ride to most of the city. Two beds, a jacuzzi tub and a fireplace.
You'll mostly have your own floor of the house (finished walk out basement) with a king size bed and a big futon so that you can very comfortably sleep up to 4 in two separate areas. There is some stuff we might need access to, but generally we don't have much need to be down there. We may or may not share a bathroom when it's convenient for you (that shower is so much nicer!), but otherwise we generally keep away from your floor. Don't wanna wear pants to the bathroom in the morning? This is the perfect spot. You also get French doors that open up into the backyard right next to the bed, a gas fireplace and a jacuzzi tub.
We're in a great neighborhood that avoids the biggest issue in New Haven; crime. Being just across the harbor we're insulated from the bad neighborhoods that run up against all the nice spots closer to downtown. We have parking behind the house (that you can use if you like) but I prefer to park in the street and have never had an issue. We live around all the firefighters and new professors!
We have easy access to public transportation and are close enough to downtown and Yale that I typically ride my bike over there when I'm headed to the area. If you have a car, it's about 5-10 mins to downtown/Yale and we have easy access to I95/91.
There are two other roommates you'd likely bump into at some point, but other than laundry they don't ever come downstairs.
I've moved some furniture around since AirBnB took the photos that are up so the bed is now a king instead of a queen, and some of the shelving has changed.
You'll have access to pretty much the entire house other than the other bedrooms. Kitchen is shared. There is wifi internet and you can use the printer if you need to. We have one big TV with an XBox along with Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, and HBO Go. You'll have access to the washer/dryer.There is some fitness equipment you're welcome to use too, though I also have a gym space so it's up in the air exactly what is here at any given time.
Interaction with Guests
New friends are awesome so we're happy to hang out, go eat or whatever so long as we're not too busy. That said, if you'd rather just pretend we're not here and we mostly ignore each other, that's totally fine too.
Other Things to Note
Our standard check in time is after 3pm and check out before 1pm, but these are pretty flexible and we're happy to move them around or hold luggage or whatever so long as it doesn't conflict with other guests.
The big rule is just to be respectful and positive. Also, no smoking in the house.
Amazing vibe here and great hosts! Highly recommended if staying in the new haven area!
This definitely was an awesome space at an awesome house. Since the moment we established communication until our visit was done, Matt was very accessible, understanding, honest, and communicative about our stay. I was in a group of 4 people who were in town for a conference at Yale and we only needed to stay for one night. In the midst of all the conference schedule craziness, Matt had been very flexible about when we could drop by and get oriented to the space. We were attracted to this particular listing because of the cool decor and were absolutely thrilled when we arrived. His collection of games and other gaming paraphernalia gave my group of friends something to talk about and build over. We wished we had more time to stay just so we could explore his space and his stuff a little more. Staying one night at his house was an adventure in itself. Also, there was a fireplace and that's super cool. I highly recommend staying here to make your trip to Connecticut more fun than it sounds.
Matt was very welcoming and made sure everything was OK during our night. We already have something planned but he even proposed us to have dinner with him and his friends for free.
The studio is big and very comfortable! We recommend!
This house was a great place to crash for the night. Easy to find and very easy to check in and make myself comfortable. Awesome dog, nice comfortable bed and friendly service. I would stay here again.
Excellent host - casual but attentive. Not luxurious in any way, but clean and reminds me of a college off-campus housing thing. The host was intelligent, and well-read, he had a friend there who was a nice guy too. Basically a very good vibe happening there.
Matt was a great host! The room is spacious (most of a finished basement) and well lit. The bathroom was well-equipped with a huge tub and, if I may say so, a really amazing shower head. My stay was brief but very comfortable.
Matt's place is truly as awesome as signaled in his AirBnb posting. You will not get better boarding quarters for this price in New Haven--indeed, you probably would not be able to stay in as fun a place at all! The photographs are accurate, but one misses out on the quality of Matt's hosting (and the loving bundle of energy that is Conan). Matt was super accommodating and generous during our stay. Highly recommended!
After years of involvement in the DIY music scene (toured full time, did a label, booked shows, etc) I've spent countless nights staying with people all over and hosted bands from around the world at my house for more than a decade. I'd much rather do "business" with someone I'd also like to have a beer and play a boardgame with.
We've now hosted well over 50 guests and absolutely love the experience. Sometimes we just talk for a few mins at check in and other times we spend lots of time hanging out, but either way, it's been a wonderful experience to share our home with so many awesome people from all over the world!
The sum value of a life can only be measured in the quality and abundance of positive connections a person makes in the brief time before they turn into worm food. I live a life of awesome moments.
