Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Our wooden rainforest home has a remote feel on the Waitikubuli hiking trail ( mid segment 4) yet with easy access to the main road. Enjoy the solar water heating and watching the abundant bird life. Owners live in Roseau but usually welcome guests and stay on call . Neighbours up the road (10 mins drive) can prepare meals ordered beforehand . We have a cool treetop plunge pool and a lovely hammock on the porch. Outside security cameras will pick up movement on the porch .

The space
This property is a well equipped, wooden home in the treetops of the Rainforest. Located on the edge of the Morne Trois Pitons World Heritage Site in the forest with parrots and hummingbirds as visitors and a rainwater plunge pool 20 feet above ground. We do have security cameras which show the front door and comings and goings.

This accommodation is ideally placed on the Waitikubuli Hiking Trail. There is internet by wifi and phone signal available by data and groceries can be delivered or bought from the corner shop

We are two hundred yards from the main road in a developing area, yet with a remote and isolated feel when looking out from the balcony. A rental 4X4 Jeep can take you to many unusual attractions within an hours drive, hot springs, rushing rivers and waterfalls and Organic Farm tours to name a few. Birdwatching for the Jaco parrots, only found in Dominica, diving and snorkeling, whale watching and turtle watching can all be arranged. Visit the Kalinago Indian Basket weavers and see their traditional dances performed at the model village.

We are about 45 minutes drive from the airport and half an hour from the ferry. We can arrange pick ups and car rentals, pcr tests before you leave and lots of introductions! Do expect rain and even a chilly dawn until the sun gets up! We have hot water from a solar system.

See you soon, the hammock is waiting.

Guest access
Guests will be able to access the pool which opens straight off the deck. Access to the surrounding forest (with insect repellent) and the feeder path to the Hiking trail (rather muddy at times) the shop and a couple of bars are walking distance away . The neighbours are friendly and supportive if needed.

Other things to note
We recommend NOT renting a vehicle at the airport if arriving at night. Get a taxi ( which we can arrange) to SYLVANIA Door to Door. Too many tourists get lost or break down in the dark. The roads are unlit and locals drive fast. We can arrange for your rental vehicle to be delivered to the cottage on day 2 (that way you save a days rental ) and with Galavant they have a mobile office and Juliet provides great customer service.

Our neighbours have installed a light at the top of the steep hill which helps as the parking is tricky. We wish we owned the whole forest.....however it is exciting to be planting trees and flowers to attract yet more birds and butterflies.

Where you’ll be

Sylvania, Saint George Parish, Dominica

This is virgin rainforest 400 yards from the main road. The best of both worlds. The Pineapple Crossing nieghbours can be seen through the trees and there is a new block house behind us but they are less intrusive then we dreaded. The car park is shared with Pineapple Crossing down the steps which can also be rented for larger groups . We are also developing our botanical trail and orchid walk. If you want to help, you will have to borrow wellies and wear jeans as the rainforest fights back with insect life and muddy paths. The best bet for eating is to have our neighbour "Fiona through the trees" cook and deliver to you. The Pool is cool and refreshing ! The water and light have both recovered from Hurricane Maria now and there is a water tank available if the mains water is turned off in bad weather. Bring Flashlights and Umbrellas. It does rain in the Rainforest.
