About this listing
Quiet & relaxed neighborhood, super close to subway, 15 minutes from everything in NYC. Private and cozy room close to the front door on the first floor - easy in, easy out anytime. We love having people around and enjoy sharing our home with love.
A private bedroom in an easy-in, easy-out apartment on the first floor on a great block on the Upper West Side.
We are a very laid back couple with an 2.5 years old boy. We love hosting and we appreciate privacy and space. We have an extra bedroom (3 total), right by the front door and our apartment is right by the building's front door... we are very hospitable, community oriented with the outmost respect for privacy.
Of course there is a kitchen which you may use. 1 bathroom. Our space is very "ZEN" if we may say so.... as parents we like to keep a calm atmosphere as our child is also pretty calm. We do have midnight diaper changes going on with the occasional cries but overall it's pretty chill around here.
We got fast internet wifi, filtered water and everything in the house is earth friendly...
Walking distance to 3 parks: Central Park, Riverside Park and Morningside Park. Also, amazing Church grounds close by with gardens and peacocks walking around. Within 5-10 minutes of walking there are multiple ponds, lakes, waterfalls and woodsy trails... and you are still in the heart of Manhattan! Yes.
This is a great family neighborhood. Lots of restaurants, multiple subway lines and all that good stuff.
What makes our place unique? Well, our energy, our family and our deep respect for home. Your room is right by the front door and our apartment is right by the building's frontdoor so you can just come in and out... (if you are a very light sleeper, this may not be a good option as you do hear the building's doors closing).
We are a very easy-going parents with a fantastic baby boy - so our love and feelings makes our place very unique... your luck is most likely to improve just by staying with us... can we say that? well that's the kind of people we are!
Kitchen & Bathroom of course.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you'd like. We love people and we also respect privacy as we are a family.
Very family oriented. It is also close to columbia university so there is access to food and nooks 24/7. Walking distance from 3 different parks, 3 different subway stations that will take you anywhere. Healthy food available and quiet at night.
We are located 5 minutes walk to 3 main subway stations that can take you ANYWHERE.
Other Things to Note
We love having people around. We are community builders. This is very natural for us. Our son loves it, we love it...
Be mindful that we have a little toddler in the house.
Please don't be loud.
Clean up after yourself.
No shoes in the livingroom area :)
We stayed at Oriya`s place for four nights. The neighborhood seemed safe and has most of what you might need for eat and drink. The next subway station is just a few blocks away and it takes you about 20 minutes to go downtown. We only met Oriya briefly, but a friend of his let us in the room and was the contact person. He was very nice, answering questions, suggesting places to go and we could even check in a bit earlier which was great. The room is as described and was clean but the bathroom could have been a bit cleaner. We didn't use the kitchen because we weren't sure if we could. We had AC which was great during a July stay. All in all we had a nice and uncomplicated stay.
Oriya was great at responding to my emails/questions! He even picked up the phone really late (delayed flight) although he was not there at home. He made sure we were taken care of by Al. He was able to answer all of our questions and was really friendly!
The neighbourhood was a great one, I recommend this area as I felt safe and it was quiet! Bed was comfortable, AC worked great (for the hot weather)
This was a fantastic neighborhood to stay in, felt safe and very convenient. Room was clean. Barely saw anyone during our stay, never saw the host or his family, but a family friend covered the check in. We were only there to sleep and shower, anyway. It is indeed a bit noisy due to being street level near building entrance, but just entering and exiting noise, not too bad.
I briefly met Oriya but he was a great host. The location was excellent and would love to stay again there.
Quite neighborhood, near the train and central park. Easy to explore the city. The host is very welcome and thoughtful.
When we got to the apartment we were met by Oriya's wife, who was very nice and welcoming. We did not have a difficult time finding the place. It was easy to get to. It's close to the metro station, making it easy to travel around the city. The room was comfortable. We enjoyed our stay.
We never met Oriya, but Karri and Al were terrific hosts (and Hanu, the toddler, was totally adorable). Very friendly and helpful with any questions we had during our stay.
The apartment doesn't quite hold true to the photos - it was a little dirtier than the photos suggest, and there were ants in the kitchen and bathroom. However, nothing more than the stuff one might have to clean at one's own family home.
The neighbourhood is great - 3 blocks away from the subway line and very safe (we'd typically arrive back between 10:30pm and 11:30pm). Lots of restaurants around the area so still pretty vibrant at those hours. I'm a pretty light sleeper and was prepared to be up most nights from street noise, but I found it surprisingly (and pleasantly) quiet.
One tip for future renters: the windows don't have screens, so close the one in the bedroom as soon as you arrive. We were visited by a particularly large cockroach on the first night - which, I would like to stress, came from outside and NOT from somewhere in the apartment. I killed it, shut the window, and never opened it again, and that's totally fine because there's an AC unit installed in the window anyways. If you don't shut the windows, be ready for some unwanted guests.
Overall, the experience was exactly what we needed for 5 nights in the city. Not as cute of a place as the photos suggest, but absolutely perfect if you're planning on being out in the city for your trip. And the hosts are a pleasure to spend time with - be ready for the little one to show you his toy collection!
