HackerHome - San Mateo: bunk 1

House - Shared room · San Mateo, CA 94401, United States

The HackerHome Network
Whether you're new to the Valley, bored with your current housing or need a transient place... I would like to help. When you reserve with me, you'll have instant friends and be part of a network of 10 homes in the Bay Area.

The Space

Newly built custom home with an open kitchen and living room.

4 bedrooms - 1 private room and 3 shared rooms
3 full bathrooms

Guest Access

All utilities are included and the WIFI is fast!

Clean linens/bedding are provided + a fresh towel.

Why would someone say light cooking? Home prepped meals really warms up the house and it's encouraged.

Interaction with Guests

It's a house full of people & different schedules. So please use ear plugs if necessary. If you're a light sleeper or can't sleep on a single mattress, this may not be the right place for you.

We are a very communal/respectful group and strive to provide space for everyone to work and hangout. Remember that work, musical instruments and books take precedence over the television.

The Neighborhood

This is the suburbs of San Mateo, but it's a 5 minute walk to restaurants, shopping and grocery stores.

Getting around

Only a 10-15 minute walk to San Mateo Caltrain and downtown San Mateo.

Too tired to walk? We have bikes you can use that will swiftly get you places fast!

Other Things to Note

More than one suitcase? Consult with me prior to making your reservation.

Respectful Housing for Women
Females in a separate room. If you'd like to stay in the girls' room, please check with me on availability before reserving. If you don't have a preference, then just make your reservation.

Cleaning
The Airbnb cleaning fee is to make sure you have a clean bed upon arrival and not to clean up after you. All spaces are shared, so please be mindful of picking up after yourself. If you're a longer term guest, remember to use one bath towel and wash it with your own load of laundry.

  • The place is as advertised. A good house with bunk beds to spend your nights. It has a nice patio and a big TV to play games. The room mates were nice and Vic was very helpful with everything. Clean and not too far from downtown.

  • Great place with great people. Friendly, fun, and inspiring. A close community that really feels like home

    February 2014
  • Vic's hackerhome has been a very pleasant place to stay in. It's fully facilitated, clean, and uncompromised even though its much cheaper than what you'd normally find in the Bay Area.

All the members are nice and friendly, there is always ample food in the fridge, neat laundry system, proper beds, and very spacious work stations.

Vic himself is a very nice and humble person who takes your needs seriously and makes sure you have a comfortable stay. He also runs a ring of hackerhouses all through the Bay Area, so you automatically become a part of the larger network and meet interesting people all the way!

I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a place in San Mateo, or to Vic's hackerhomes for anyone looking for an affordable place in the Bay Area.

  • Great host, very accommodating!

    December 2013
  • This review is for the HackerHome in San Mateo. The place was as described. It's a nice house with three showers, which is great, because I never had to wait to use one of them.

    September 2013
  • Seriously an absolutely awesome experience. I don't think I have a single negative comment about the place and ended up meeting some really people in the process.

    August 2013
  • I have to admit that I was a little suspicious at the idea of living in a house with 12 strangers. Don't be. The people were incredibly respectuous; I never had a single noise issue and everything went smoothly from the share of the cooking place to the showers. Note that it wasn't only a no-inconvenients stay, meeting people from so many different backgrounds working on so many differnet things was a truely enriching experience!

A quick word on Vic: great host and great human being; he was a bit busy when I was there but he took the time to make sure that we were all ok. Great guy!
