  • Victor was a very friendly and accommodating host; as soon as we arrived at Victor's place he offered to take us to visit the gardens in Suzhou and invited us to eat dinner with his friends. Victor and his girlfriend were both very friendly people whom we had good conversations with about Suzhou life and French culture. The accommodations in his apartment was clean and homey, so it felt just like staying over at a friend's house. The location is also very convenient, as the apartment is very close to the subway station. So overall, I would recommend Victor's place as a good stay for your trip in Suzhou!

  • I can't agree more with the previous comments. Victor was very accommodating. On the first day he invited me to eat typical Suzhou food with his friends. He was invested in helping me easily get where I wanted to go. He had good food suggestions. As for the appartment, it is very well situated, close to the subway, close to other touristic attractions. It's very clean, modern, spacious, and warm.

  • Our first experience with airbnb could not be better!
Victor was very friendly and we had a good time with him and his friends: we really felt to be friends, more than guests. He gave us some good suggestions concerning sites to visit.
Victor's apartment is nice, clean, and really well located to visit Suzhou, few metres from a underground stop and near some good restaurants.
Victor is always big-hearted in sharing with you his food, but if you want to make him happy, you can bring to him some Reblochon cheese from Europe :)
If you want to visit Suzhou, Victor must definitely be your host!

  • Victor is the kindest french guy I've ever met! He took me beautiful places and had some great Chinese cuisines here and there in Suzhou. He knows well the city and culture. I am so happy to airbnb at his place so that I could know him. Thanks Victor for having me! :-)

  • City:
Suzhou is a beautiful city, and I highly recommend foreigners visit. It's a modern city filled with new construction and large shopping areas. However, interspersed with this are traces of old Suzhou: Canals weave their way under every street, and beautifully designed parks and gardens appear in the middle of a sea of tiny shops.

Suzhou is a 30 minute, 40 kuai high-speed train ride from Shanghai. While wikipedia puts its urban population at 5.4 million, it feels smaller and provides a nice break from the Shanghai's bustling crowds.

    Apartment:
The apartment is just across the street from the subway. This is the easiest way to access the city. It closes a bit early (10-11 I think), but cabs can fill in after that.

Beyond the subway station, the street is filled with very cheap restaurants and small clothing shops. There's even a few street food stalls if you want baozi or shaobing for a few kuai. If you're craving western "culture", an enormous Starbucks is a few minutes walk.

The apartment itself is very nice. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. Victor keeps it very clean. Best of all, the internet *very* fast for China.

    Host:

    Victor was an awesome host.

When I first arrived, he took the time to really get me situated in Suzhou. He took out a big map and outlined the main areas of the city. He's lived in Suzhou for a few months, so he was able to mark specific streets he recommended walking down as well as describing how to get there. As I'm someone with a truly terrible sense of direction, this was a huge help!

Victor didn't stop at pointing to pictures on a map (though that was very helpful). For the whole week I was in Suzhou, he went out of his way to make me feel not just welcome, but as if I were home. He knew of many interesting restaurants and took me each night to explore a different cuisine. He introduced me to many of his friends throughout the week. It was great to hear the experiences of his expat friends and gain some local perspective by going out to dinner with real 苏州人 (people from Suzhou).

As a nice bonus, Victor speaks great Chinese. He comes in handy as a translator as well as guide!

  • As a 1st-time host on Airbnb, Victor made a kick-ass job! He was very nice and, even though we were staying a short time in Suzhou, he spent time with us and gave us very good tips on what to visit in the city...and also how to enhance our Mandarin skills :)
His place is modern, big and clean. The bed is comfortable (not as hard as the regular asian matress), and the room fully equiped with shelves, desk, etc.
The location of the flat is really good : while not right in the noisy center, the flat is 2 min away from the subway which brings you there in a few minutes.
So overall, for a very good experience in Suzhou, we highly recommand staying at Victor's!

    Résumé en français :
Un super hôte, un appart très sympa et bien situé. Une expérience chaudement recommandée si vous passez par Suzhou!

About
I'm working in Suzhou for a french company established in the New District (SND). If not working, there are many chances that you'll find me in a Starbucks studying Chinese, planing the next climbing trip, or maybe reading some exciting news about free software. Airbnb is a great way to get closer to a city, and whatever you're looking for, I'll do my best to help you find it ;)
