On a ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, private bedroom with a queen bed and comfortable furnishings that looks out on a spectacular coastal view of Monterey Bay. The four-acre property is close to walking trails that take you deep into a redwood forest, or a 20-minute drive to the Santa Cruz coast. Wineries within a few miles in any direction.
Kitchen, living room, and deck access.
Amazing view that changes with the light and the weather.
Bathroom with shower / tub next to bedroom. Must be able to navigate a few stairs (entryway and 3 steps down to the bedroom) and be OK with our two cats.
Wireless internet. Satellite tv with basic cable.
You won't hear traffic, instead you will hear the chickens next door. Private and quiet.
Homey, casual living. You need a car to get here, no nearby public transportation.
There's a store about 3 miles away that is open until 8 PM. A few restaurants are in the mountains. Most are either near the coast (Soquel, Capitola) or inland in Los Gatos (13 miles).
Other notes: You can take route 17 from San Jose or Santa Cruz to the Summit exit to get here, or to/from Santa Cruz area, you can take an easy and pleasant back road and avoid the "fishhook" and 17 altogether.
It's 45 min - 1 hour from here to the Monterey Peninsula.
Loved staying here! Lucy is a great hostess. It was very much a retreat like feel with a great view. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. It is close to capitola and Santa Cruz. Also the jacuzzi under the stars was one of the most memorable experiences of the stay. Would recommend getting there with day light hours so you can see the windy roads. Also bring food with you because it's a bit of a hassle to go back down the mountain for food. Enjoy your stay!!
We had a great experience. It's very peaceful and a perfect getaway in the Santa Cruz mountains. Lucy was a gracious host and very friendly and provided ample information about the area. It's so close to the major metro centers of the Bay Area but it feels like another world. It has a great view over the hills and the ocean. Crickets at night, clear starry skies, and surrounded by dense woods. We definitely recommend that you check it out.
I was taking an intense 2-day course from a master photographer, Oliver Klink, nearby. I arrived late Friday night, left at 6 am the next day and so on... so I did not get much time to spend here. The deck with a view facing the ocean would have been a nice place to relax.
The room and bath had everything I needed and was very comfortable. The hostess was very welcoming and made an effort to make things easy for me. I would stay here again.
Tip: Make sure your gas tank is full up before coming, because there are no nearby gas stations. And factor in extra time for weekend summer beach traffic anywhere you stay anywhere along highway 17 between San Jose and Santa Cruz.
