You won't hear traffic, instead you will hear the chickens next door. Private and quiet.
Homey, casual living. You need a car to get here, no nearby public transportation.
There's a store about 3 miles away that is open until 8 PM. A few restaurants are in the mountains. Most are either near the coast (Soquel, Capitola), south on Highway 17 to Scotts Valley, or north on 17 to Los Gatos (13 miles).
There is an 11% occupancy tax for the County that we need to collect when you check in, either in cash or via paypal. Airbnb isn't set up to collect tax here.
The room is good for one or two people. If there is a third, there's an extra fee and they can sleep on the comfortable living room sofa.
Other notes: You can take route 17 from San Jose or Santa Cruz to the Summit exit to get here, or to/from Santa Cruz area, you can take an easy and pleasant back road and avoid the "fishhook" and 17 altogether.
It's 45 min - 1 hour from here to the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel, and Pacific Grove.
Kitchen, living room, and deck access.
Hot tub may be on, or you may request it be turned on.
Interaction with Guests
I chat with them a little, answer questions, find out about who they are, and pretty much leave them on their own. I may be here in a different part of the house, sharing the kitchen and deck, or I may be out and they have the entire downstairs to themselves.
You'd never know you are within reach of the SF Bay Area and Silicon Valley, even though you can get here easily. This is a quiet, natural setting with spectacular views, peaceful neighbors, and entertaining wildlife - birds, including wild turkeys sometimes, deer, next door chickens, owls hooting at night. Nice place to hang out or as a base for attending weddings or other events in the mountains or at the coast. You will not be hearing traffic, city noises, loud neighbors. Space to breathe.
No public transportation - you must have a car or other independent vehicle. There is plenty of room to park (outdoors). Airport shuttles come up here, for a substantial fee. Rental car usually a better choice.
Other Things to Note
You might want to plan your food and bring it with you, or you can drive down to the local store before 8 PM. Also there are great restaurants within 20-30 minutes. I can offer light breakfast items like coffee, tea, cereal, usually juice or fruit, and toast. We can confirm based on your preferences.
Be nice to cat. Clean up in kitchen. Be pleasant. If you wish to help out, take sheets off your bed and leave linens in the basket for me to wash.
County tax is 11% to be collected in cash.
Smoking is allowed outside with an ashtray. Great care is required because we are in a drought and fire hazard is high. Please shower or avoid using lotions before entering hot tub.
If you don't see what you need, please ask. Enjoy your visit to the Santa Cruz Mountains!
I couldn't have asked for a better first stay with Airbnb than with Lucy. She was kind and generous, and her home was beautiful and comfortable. We loved the fresh eggs and butter and using the hot tub to look at the stars. Lucy was also a joy to talk to: she was warm, funny, but gave us privacy for much of our stay. Our room was great, and we had a private bathroom. The only thing that wasn't enjoyable was the dog next door barking for most of the night, but that's not something that Lucy could have prevented. Lucy's home is a nice, quiet escape in the mountains that is just close enough to the crowded vacation destinations. If you want a getaway, Lucy's home is everything you need.
Staying at Lucy's home was truly a pleasure. The house is tucked away on winding mountain roads, affording visitors a serene escape yet also offers easy highway access to local destinations. We immensely enjoyed the views, the hot tub, and Lucy's company. She is warm, flexible, respectful, generous, and easy to talk to. Everything was very clean and cozy. And we felt lucky to fry up eggs from her neighbors chickens for breakfast each morning. Highly recommend!
This was my first Airbnb experience and it greatly exceeded my expectations! Lucy is a very hospitable host, offering directions, nearby restaurant and activity recommendations, and the freedom to enjoy the perks of her beautiful home, including breakfast overlooking rolling green hills and the coastline as well as a hot tub beneath a crystal clear night sky. The guest suite is cozy and clean with close proximity to the living room, kitchen and outdoor deck, which Lucy generously allows use of as well. We very much enjoyed meeting and chatting with her and look forward to our next stay! Thanks again!
Lucy has a wonderful, serene place surrounded by luscious trees. We had such a peaceful experience. There is a lot of space to relax, including the backyard. The bed is really comfortable and there is also a lot of natural light. I couldn't ask for a better location to spend my weekend.
Lucy was a great host, and made me feel like I was at home. It was a great weekend in a mountain retreat in Los Gatos. Would definitely recommend this property.
Lucy was a fantastic host! She made us feel quite at home for the valentine day weekend. She showed us around the house, the back hottub, and the view. After that she gave us privacy. Great host, great place to stay!
About the Host, Lucy
Relaxed, professional mountain homeowner, in my own business, flexible hours. I have a cat, like the quiet of the mountains, follow world news and ideas. Friends and interests all around the world. I like to take walks in the woods nearby my house. Taste in music: blues, rock, soul, jazz, nature, birds. Good friends in the neighborhood make home even better.
