Guest Access

Guests have access to kitchen, TV/family room, living room, dining room, back deck and yard, laundry facilities, linens, parking passes, bikes.

Interaction with Guests

We take our interaction cues from our guests. Some are more private than others and we respond accordingly. We appreciate knowing if a guest is coming or going when we hear the front door open. This is a common courtesy when staying in someone's home and I've only had one guest not say hello or goodbye upon entering or leaving.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is very urban and eclectic. We like the diversity this brings to our restaurants and the food offered in our grocery stores. There is a wonderful Thai grocery across from Safeway. And there are Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Thai and Burmese restaurants all within walking distance. We are also walking distance to a tranquil woodsy park with a lovely hike/bike/jog trail along a creek.

Getting around

We are a mile from 2 Metro stations and one-half block from a bus stop. Also the neighborhood is very bike/walkable. If you want to grab dinner, a movie or meet friends after work or sightseeing in DC, take the Metro to the Silver Spring Station. If you want to unwind or decompress, get off at the Takoma Station (also cheaper from DC) and enjoy walking along the residential, tree-lined street back to our house.

Other Things to Note

We have had great guests and there are many we have truly missed after a long-term stay. We recently posted a world map to plot the origins of our guests and have had representation from every continent except Antarctica. We can honestly say we don't just do this for the extra income. We like sharing our home and we want you to be comfortable and enjoy your visit.

  • Our stay with Gail and Danny was our first AirBnB experience - and because of them, it will definitely not be our last. It was an absolute pleasure to stay with them, and by the time we parted ways, they felt like old friends.
We stayed in their "Music Room" for about a week. It's a lovely space, and Gail and Danny will give you just as much privacy as you need while also being available pretty much right away whenever you might need anything. We found everything to be exactly as described, and were thrilled too with the proximity to Downtown Silver Spring, where we had business to attend to each day.
You'd be truly hard-pressed to find a more convenient location, or a cleaner / nicer / more comfortable room, or better hosts. Definitely five stars - and the next time we have business in Silver Spring, Gail and Danny will be hearing from us!

  • I stayed with Gail and Danny in summer 2013 for an internship in Silver Spring. They were great hosts --- the perfect balance between helpful and unintrusive. The accommodation is clean and the house is lovely, quiet, and walking distance from downtown Silver Spring. I would definitely stay with Gail and Danny again.

  • I stayed with Gail and Danny for a month while attending the AIRP course. They have a beautiful home in a great location for AIRP (about 15-20 minute walk). Also a Silver Spring parking permit was supplied by Gail and Danny so I could park closer to the AFI on days I didn't want to walk. They were excellent hosts that made me feel very welcome in their house...especially for SU basketball. I felt right at home as if part of their family. It was a pleasure living there, chatting with them and cheering on SU. The internet was extremely fast, good study space, plenty of room in fridge for food, Gail offered food/desserts she made on several occasions, and Danny was always offering to make more coffee! The laundry facilities were great as well. I attended Bikram yoga classes in Takoma park about a mile from the house. Overall, a very easy place to stay for a month and would highly recommend for anyone doing AIRP or just traveling through. I will definitely miss Gail and Danny!

  • I had a wonderful stay in the Music Room. It was clean and comfortable. Gail and Danny were excellent hosts. I felt completely welcome in their home and enjoyed spending time with them. They handled all of my requests and make a great cup of coffee in the morning.

Our current home is in the "inner burbs" of Washington DC but we've lived in various neighborhoods throughout the city. We consider ourselves progressive urbanites and enjoy DC and all it has to offer. Ask us for recreational, cultural and entertainment activities for our guests. We have enjoyed the acquaintances we've made through hosting travelers in our rental property. PLEASE give us the courtesy of sharing profile information about yourself AND any adults traveling with you before booking. We enjoy sailing, hiking, skiing and biking. We often have extra bikes around for our guests to borrow. We're avid travelers and enjoy insights on other cultures and sharing travel adventures.
