About this listing

European-rustic beach house with AC bedrooms, WIFI, cathedral ceilings & ceiling fans, gated parking, a covered lounging/dining deck, right on Cabuya beach, 7km from Montezuma. Cabuya is an authentic village with cafes, restaurants and supermarkets.

The space

Casa Astrid's open air cathedral ceilings and french doors, which span the ocean side of the house, allow for wonderful light and ventilation. The spacious covered deck is ideal for dining or relaxing in one of the various hammocks, or lounge chairs. Two bedrooms, one with a double bunk bed, and a built in couch provide sleeping space for up to 6 guests.

Bring your laptop to enjoy our highspeed Internet connection via the fiber optic phone line. Sleep in the cool quiet, courtesy of the external air conditioning units in both bedrooms.

The house is located in the a little village of Cabuya, which is 7km from Montezuma. Cabuya boasts a number of great little cafes, restaurants, bakeries and stores, including three full service mini supermarkets where you can buy fresh fruits & vegetables, household supplies including toiletries and even beer, wine & liquor. Our house is within a three minute walk of a bakery, a restaurant, a cafe, a mini supermarket and a tiny boutique. The bus that goes to Montrezuma with a transfer to Cobano stops a "block" from our house.

The beach in front of the house is unusual in that there is a rocky shelf that extends out for about 50 meters. There are no strong tides or big waves. The beach changes dramatically as the tide goes out. It is lovely for swimming around high tide and fun for exploring and wading at low tide.

Guest access

Should you arrive after hours you will find a key in a lock box on the side of the house. I will email you the code after you book. Our property manager, Jenny owns the Cafe Coyote which is about two "blocks" from the house. You can check in with her anytime you need anything.

Other things to note

Use the same common sense that you would at home. Don't leave your valuables out in plain view to tempt the honest! We have never had a break in at the house but if you leave you wallet out and the door open when someone happens to be walking by then you wallet may decide to take a walk too!

House Rules

There is air conditioning in the bedrooms. Please do not leave the AC on 24 hours/day. It only take about a minute for the bedrooms to cool down so turn it on right before you turn in! The rest of the house is open air (with screened in windows) so don't run the AC with the bedroom doors open. Use the awesome ceiling fans instead!

Casa Astrid is a great house in a very special part of Costa Rica. The location and close access to the beach, Cabo Blanco and all kinds of fun activities make this an excellent place for a great vacation with kids. We spent ten days at the house and did something fun every day -- my kids were very sad to leave. Cabuya is a special place in Costa Rica -- the people there are amazingly friendly and it has somehow managed to escape the glitzy tourism that now dominates most of the country. Don't go there if you want well-developed roads and high-end tourist infrastructure, but DO go there if you want to escape to a peaceful and charming place. Tanya is an excellent host: she provides great tips and is very communicative. Jenny is always willing to help out.

Tonya's place was awesome. Just as described. The village of cabuya is lovely and much more tranquil than Montezuma, the big tourist attraction that most people stop at down the road. We looked out over the water in the back, and saw a whole group of capuchin monkeys right out the front door to greet us. Jenny, our host locally, was lovely and very helpful in many areas. Definitely recommend this place to others!

Fantastic location for a quiet vacation. All the local restaurants were very good. Quiet and safe location. Rocky beach as described, but lovely (bring water shoes). New instant hot water shower head worked great. Local vibe to the area - much quieter and a sharp contrast to Montezuma.

A fine choice if you're looking to disconnect. Bring beach shoes for the rocky shore and you can wade out for 100m at low tide. We weren't able to get hot water during our stay but I didn't miss it much with the tropical heat. Internet exists, but it's dial up, not fiber as listed. Jenny (the owner of Cafe Cayote and your host) is great and very helpful! If you're in the mood for a more social (and higher priced) getaway, check Santa Teresa. Also know the roads there from Cabuya are ROUGH and difficult to manage after dark or in the rainy season.

This house was amazing! Perfect for a family who like to be out of the crowds. The host took excellent care of us and Jenni, here local associate is the woman who can do it all. You can have a very enjoyable stay without a car if you like to walk. But transportation opens up 2 coasts for fun! Every evening was a Howler Monkey Highway in the back yard. Too cool

We loved our time at Tanya's home. It was very comfortable for the 5 of us and the area was relaxed and friendly. We loved exploring as well as just hanging out relaxing on the back patio. We loved the outdoor shower too. The neighbors baby chicks came and visited us each day. We really were impressed by the great help and hospitality of Jenny and her family during our stay. They made us feel very welcome and arranged transportation, etc. for us. Jenny is also a great cook and her cafe a good place for smoothies, fajitas, pizza and more. We enjoyed our stay very much and would love to come again in the future. Thank you!
