The Space

Our sunny Mission house is home to 3 generations - Grandmother Judith, Mother Jess and her son Romy.
The rental is a beautifully appointed downstairs studio off the garage with separate entrance. The room has a queen bed, table and chairs and a small kitchenette with microwave, Keurig coffee maker and fridge. This is an hotel-style accommodation without kitchen sink. It has an ensuite bathroom with shower and a warm Toyo toilet seat with built-in bidet. There is wireless high-speed internet and cable TV. You are invited to relax in our sunny garden, which is perfect for sipping Blue Bottle coffee from the famous Dynamo Donut café a block away!

It is perfect for exchange students, visiting professionals, short-term and longer-term travelers and anyone wanting to experience the true multicultural delights of San Francisco. The house is located in the heart of the vibrant Mission district with more food, coffee, murals, music and general joyful ambience than you will have time to experience! We are a pleasant 10 minute walk from BART (the metro) and only 1 block to 5 major bus lines - only a few minutes ride to downtown SF.

You will find your room clean, quiet, private, and welcoming. The price is competitive for the area and we offer discounted weekly and monthly rates.

  • We had such a great time at the hideout, and cannot reccommend staying with Judith enough. Where to start! The room was spotlessly clean with lovely little details that went over and above what can be expected of staying on airbnb. It was wonderful to have the luxury of having our own key and private entrance, as well as the kitchenette for making basic meals. Judith was helpful and sweet at all times but at the same time sensitive to our privacy, in short the perfect host. The location was also amazing, situated in the quieter end of a bustling mexican and latino neighbourhood full of great places to eat, bookshops, record shops etc. Although we explored other areas extensively during our stay, it was always nice to return to the mission after a long day :)

We would reccommend anyone if they are lucky enough to get a reservation to stay here. We wish you all the best Judith for the future and hope you get the chance to visit Copenhagen at some point!

  • This was our first airbnb experience and it was wonderful! The location was very convenient to everything that we needed. Every interaction that we had with Judith was great. The room was exactly as described. We loved the little details in the space and the cleanliness of it. We also loved the extra touches, such as the two beers that were waiting in the fridge upon our arrival. Judith is such a warm and friendly person - someone that I felt I had met before. She also offered great suggestions for the area. We will definitely be back!

  • My friend and I stayed here for three nights. The Mission Hideout (email hidden) to stay in San Francisco. The room was clean and spacious and had a great en-suite bathroom. The location is lovely too, with lots of places to eat, drink, have coffee and explore. Judith herself (email hidden), she gave us our own space but was also around whenever we needed help. She was so helpful and gave us invaluable tips of things to see and how to get around (and about the micro-climates of San Francisco!) I would definitely recommend it as a place for anyone who wants a friendly, private place to stay in the city.

  • Great experience! Judith was responsive through email/text and very hands off, which was perfect for us. The directions to the hideout was very clear. We arrived early on Saturday and Judith graciously accommodated our schedule so that we could go into the room earlier. The hideout was better than expected. It was clean and comfortable. Judith thought of everything. There was everything including a TV, shampoo/towels, cookies, coffee maker, hair dryer, and even a heater. I get cold easily so the heater made the stay 100% better. We highly recommend the place and will come back next time we're in San Francisco.

  • Judith was (email hidden)… really helpful and thoughtful. Her room is a bit small, but it’s super cozy and comfortable. All the areas were really clean.

It was really good to have a separate entrance (especially for those nights where we would come back a bit late, and didn’t want to wake anyone up!).

The neighborhood is really interesting. On the 24th Street you have lots of restaurants (mostly Mexican and some Asian). You can also walk to Mission Street where there’s even more stuff going on (vintage shops, markets, more restaurants, bars, etc.).

I wouldn’t advise bringing a car to Judith’s place if you want to save time (and avoid stress!)… However, if you have no choice, I guess you can manage with a bit of patience and perseverance. Ask her for tips!

In short, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in SF/Mission (website hidden): I had forgotten my engagement (email hidden), and Judith was EXTRA nice in helping me find it and return it.

    Thanks again for everything!

  • Judith’s attention to detail makes this place special. The space holds everything you need to be comfortable and it is located in a quiet, yet very alive, area. Judith and daughter Jess more than graciously helped us with suggestions on getting around on the bus or Bart and excellent nearby food choices. The Hideout was a very enjoyable way to get to know the Mission District and the incredible diversity of this neighborhood. It is close and accessible to the bus system. Thank you!

  • We really enjoyed out stay at the Mission Hideout. It was conveniently located and just the right type accommodation for our needs. Parking in the area is problematic but that is all of San Francisco and not just this neighborhood. Access to major roads was easy for getting around town. Our host Judith was very helpful in all ways particularly as to information about the area and recommendations for travel. We had our own access to the apartment which was great in that we did not have to bother anyone.

I spent 22 years living in England before I moved to San Francisco. I am an artist and have an artist studio in our Mission house....My daughter Jess works from home as a medical researcher and we live with her 8 year old son, Romy. We adore San Francisco and always feel that we are so lucky to live in this gorgeous place with the perfect climate and extraordinary lively and positive energy.
