We really enjoyed our stay at the Hideout. The room was clean and calm and the neighbourhood is very eclectic - everyone should do a walk along the 24th from the Hideout ... you will discover a very special San Francisco experience :-)
This was a great place to stay, Judith was most helpful on arrival. Very clean and comfortable.
We had a great stay at the hideout, everything was smooth with our stay from communication before arrival to the clean and bright suite we found when we got there.
Judith went above and beyond as a host and even helped us through a minor crisis.
The hideout was a perfect spot for us to stay in while we were in San Francisco and every effort has been made to make you feel welcome during your stay. Even the garage area entrance way has been decorated to feel like a hallway and doesn't feel at all like a garage.
The hideout is close to great Mexican food, not far from the BART, and right around the corner from dynamo donuts for morning coffee and unique donut flavours.
We would definitely stay here again.
The Hideaway was a perfect alternative to the soulless & more-pricey hotels hosting and surround the downtown convention I was attending for four days. This Airbnb is a beautifully updated apartment tucked in the back of an airy street-level garage. Very secure and private feeling, with double locks on the door at the sidewalk and a locked bedroom door. Yet it feels very much a part of a vibrant neighborhood, the Lower Mission district. Judith was nice, helpful and accessible, even though I had to stay busy and away from the bnb most of the time.
The best way to reach the place on foot is the #9 bus on 24th, since the 24th St. BART subway stop is about 10 blocks in the other direction.
Pros: Adorable European style room (compact but efficient bathroom) with well thought out amenities, comfy bed, nice decor. Very nice courtyard backyard for having a 'take-in' supper or lunch. Location in SF is quite good with bus lines that will get you downtown in about 20-30 minutes, and relatively close to BART station.
Cons: Needs a toaster. Single access to the room is through the garage, and since the window over the bed was solidly barred up, in case of fire in the garage, there would be no escape. This issue was highlighted to the owner and we were led to believe to be promptly corrected, worth asking if it has been.
All in all we enjoyed the stay and would definitely return on future trips to SF.
Judith and her daughter, Jess, provided a clean, comfortable and unique stay in their hideout. They both greeted us upon our arrival, answered any questions asked, and offered suggestions for our travel. Their house is located a couple of blocks from the heart of the mission district, which offers good food, drink, and culture. Our stay was very enjoyable and we would highly recommend the hideout to those interested.
The hideout was a perfect place for my girlfriend and I to lodge for 3 nights. Much better than any hotel in the city and the fact that Judith is so helpful and nice made the entire experience amazing for us. The room is completely private and the setup with the bathroom and shower is ingenious. I am so glad that we booked our stay here. Also if you are going to use Uber while staying at the hideout: Fares to anywhere in the city are almost always $7 using Uber Pool!
About the Host, Judith
I spent 22 years living in England before I moved to San Francisco. I am an artist and have an artist studio in our Mission house....My daughter Jess works from home as a medical researcher and we live with her 8 year old son, Romy. We adore San Francisco and always feel that we are so lucky to live in this gorgeous place with the perfect climate and extraordinary lively and positive energy.
