Harvard/Tufts/Lesley: lovely room

House - Private room · Montgomery Street, Cambridge, MA 02140, United States

The Space

We have a peaceful, large, sunny room w/ attached marble bath and wifi. We're on a quiet, tree-lined street in a wonderful part of Cambridge. The room comfortably fits a couple with one child, or 3 friends. (We also have a couple of other rooms which may be available when that one is full). Here's what else you get: A small fridge in the room so it feels like a studio apartment, self-serve coffee/tea/light breakfast is usually available, in-room hair dryer and iron, in-room full cable television, central air conditioning, and use of laundry if you are here for over 3 nights. The room is pretty, comfortable, clean and warm.

You'll also get good hosts in the form of myself and my enjoyable (usually!) teenage son. We have a great pup who loves our guests, and we're a short (1/4-1/3 mile) walk to the subway (Davis Square, Porter Square or Alewife stations) and a few minutes walk to the bus on MA Ave. The nearby subway is the Red Line, and it brings you quickly into downtown Boston as well as to the Purple Line where you can get to Salem, Providence and to other nearby New England attractions. The neighborhood offers shops/restaurants/music venues galore---all within a short walk outside of our quiet, gardened, private court. Oh, and you also can have use of a bicycle for a quick bike ride to Tufts, Lesley University or Harvard Square, (15 minutes to MIT).

Other Features:
-Trader Joe's and Whole Foods within walking distance (less than 1/2 mile)
- Close to the Minuteman Bike Trail
- Very nearby several playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, and a community swimming pool with access for all.
- Close to Danehy Park for soccer, baseball, softball, and a running track. Great sledding hill in the winter.

It's a sunny, friendly to all, tidy home, perfect for a college visit, Cambridge or Boston business meeting, a conference or workshop, visit with your grand child, or a beautiful retreat for a holiday stay.

  • Judy was a welcoming and helpful host, and provided a homey, comfortable room w/private bath, plus access to her kitchen and living room. It was spacious, quiet, had nice light. It's a convenient location in a residential neighborhood outside central Cambridge, 10 minutes from the Alewife T station and ~13 minutes to the Fresh Pond Mall (Whole Foods, movies, etc.).

  • I'd stay at Mazzy Lou again! Perfect for my needs--I was at a local university for a seminar and wanted cozy, clean, comfortable sleeping and working space and private bath. I had all that plus cable TV, the most comfortable mattress in the world (loved it!) and some nice decorative touches. My host even offered me a ride up the street on her way to work on a very cold morning--which I gladly accepted. This is a good spot if you have anything to do at Lesley and Harvard, you could easily grab bus around the corner on Mass Ave. or walk to nearest T station. I hope to come back!

    Response from Mazzy:

thx Ellen, it was really nice to meet you. The program you're in sounds really interesting and I hope it works out for you to continue. You're welcome back, any time!

  • I can't say we had any complaints about Judy and her lovely apartment! It was in a great location (on the Red Line) that was easy access to everywhere we wanted to go. Our room was spacious and clean and we had our own private bathroom. Since our room was right by the front door (it was separated from the main apartment almost) we had lots of privacy and didn't hear any noise! Judy was very kind to let us stay at her place even though she was going out of town the day after we arrived. She was very friendly and welcoming and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if I was coming back to Cambridge/Boston!

  • The room is absolutely lovely! It has big windows that let the sun in! It is very cozy, comfortable and well decorated. The mattress is awesome, I slept like a baby there. When I arrived, the room was absolutely clean and ready for me. The bathroom was spotless and having that attached bathroom is definitely a plus!
The house is beautiful, surrounded by trees and also close to the T station and Mass Ave. It is located in a very quiet, silent and private place, right off Reed Street. The living room and the kitchen are functional, stylish and welcoming. There is an art vibe to it that I definitely love it.
Mazzy is cute! She is the sweetest dog ever. Very well behaved, a real lady. Always ready for some fun, but very obedient and cute!
Judy is absolutely amazing! I love her way of receiving people. She is always there in case you need help, but at the same time, she is very easy going and relaxed. I enjoyed talking to her.
Overall it was a great experience and I hope I`ll be back next year! I definitely recommend it! Thanks Judy and Mazzy!

  • Staying with Judy was a wonderful experience! Judy is a warm, generous, thoughtful and approachable host, and she made me feel truly welcome in her beautiful home throughout my stay. From the start it was like staying with a friend - I always felt comfortable asking questions or having a chat over breakfast, and Judy had plenty of ideas for things to do in Boston (even kindly inviting me to a couple of her own social events). Her son Simon and dog Mazzy are also lovely!
The room is large, clean and comfortable, and the adjoining bathroom is so convenient. The ten-minute walk to and from the station is safe and pleasant, including after dark, and I found it very easy to get around Boston city and beyond. Highly recommended!

  • I've stayed in two other bnbs in Cambridge, and this was by far the quietest in terms of street noise (hardly any). I also greatly appreciated the comfy bed, mini-fridge, hotpot, cable tv and wifi, as well as the hospitality extended by Judy and Mazzy. I took the bus to the Harvard campus each day, and it was a quick and easy trip. AND not to be missed, an awesome Greek restaurant ("The Greek Corner Restaurant") just a few blocks away from the house!

  • This is a great place to stay for a visit to Boston or Cambridge. There is easy and quick access to the transit system, and the neighborhood is pleasant and quiet. Judy was warm, friendly, and happy to give tips and suggestions. This was our first airbnb stay and we loved it!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Judy in Cambridge. Judy was very welcoming and full of great suggestions for tours and excursions. The room was very well appointed and a nice retreat after long days of sight-seeing--clean, decorated in warm way, and very inviting. Location-wise, it was great as well. I would definitely recommend staying with Judy if you are in the area!

Friendly, smart, politically liberal/progressive, resourceful;_) I love hosting people from all over the world, and know the Cambridge/Boston area well (for a native NY'er---I've been here since graduate school which was 20 yrs ago). You will find the environment here 'on the court' restful, peaceful and as my current guest from Australia put it, "I figured you were a healer of some sort-- because your home feels healing." Our place is relaxing and down to earth, with an artistic and colorful ambiance, and lots of sunlight. My boy is pure enjoyment once he feels comfortable with a guest. My dog is one of the sweetest mutts ever (objectively speaking of course)! If you happen to be taking the bus from NYC, WORLD WIDE BUS leaves you a 10 minute walk from our house.
