Hi and welcome to our home, Teach faoi fado meaning House of long ago. If your planning a trip to Ireland and your visiting the Ulster/Lenister area then this would be the perfect base for you exploration. Our house is a lovely old stone built cottage and loft oozing with character which has been converted into 3 beautiful one bedroom apartments. It has a lovely big garden and green house where we grow a small amount of our own produce. The garden is a work in progress where we both enjoy spending time.
The spacious one bedroom apartment available to you has a fully fitted kitchen, breakfast bar, sitting/living area, tv, wood burning stove and central heating. The old style bathroom has a shower over an antique roll top bath while the cosy bedroom is furnished with a sliderobe, a bed and 2 bedside lockers.
There are three local pubs within a 3km radius one of which has an excellent restaurant and is only a 10 minute walk away. There is also a local shop 3 km away.
It would be impossible to say exactly when the house was first built. Originally the house would have been much smaller and parts would have been added over the centuries, the last in the 1960s and before that a 2 storey loft was added in 1913. We don't yet know how old the rest of the building is but I would estimate at least 300 years. If you have a trained eye you'll see signs in the stone work of extensions and changes that have been made over the centuries. It has now been fully renovated unveiling its true character.
The house is located in a quiet scenic country location 1 mile off the N2 between the towns of Ardee and Carrickmacross, it is a one hour drive from Dublin airport via the M1 and a 1.5 hour journey from Belfast airport. There is a bus service to and from from Dublin which can pick up or drop off at a cross road a mile from our house
The local area is steeped in history from St Patrick passing through to the wild goose lodge and with a world famous poet born 10km down the road in Inniskeen, this area is not to be missed. There are several local tourist attractions to be visited including the Patrick Kavanagh centre, Ardee castle, Cuchulainn and Ferdia statue in Ardee and Carrickmacross workhouse all within a 10 min drive. While Newgrange, the Battle of the Boyne centre, Mellifont Abbey, Monasterboice High Tower and Cross and the Cooley peninsula are within a 30 minute car ride. The Louth and Monaghan areas are excellent for angling, fresh and salt water fishing and there are several top class golf courses in and around.
Upon request a starter pack can be arranged.
