Unfortunately, Lauren was a very difficult guest at the end of her stay. Lauren harassed my Airbnb manager, called my cleaning lady a "Mexican housekeeper", and stole Ozeri tupperware from my home. My cleaning lady and I had gone out of our way to accommodate Lauren's desperate "need" for an extended stay (she claimed her dog was dying of cancer and she had nowhere to stay because Airbnb messed up her next booking, etc.). Sadly, Lauren was not honorable to her agreement to check out at 7am and refused to leave the property until 11am. I assumed she had slept through her alarm so I sounded the house alarm at 8:45am to help wake her, as I trusted her intentions were good, but instead, she lied to Airbnb's resolution center about our agreement and then made a $500 claim against me with Airbnb. Lauren did not clean properly at check-out and continued to harass my Airbnb manager after leaving. I had plenty of evidence of Lauren's bad behavior and did not have to pay Lauren's false claim.
Kokua is a Hawaiian word, that translates as "extending loving, sacrificial help to others for their benefit, not for personal gain." We host with mindful Kokua and Aloha and will continue to do so.
