About This Listing
This is the guest room in a large, cozy house with four creative house mates (artists/musicians). We use the room for visiting friends and also rent it via Air BnB. The house is amazingly centrally located and has the feeling of home away from home.
Mirror and Sitting Area with comfy chair, small desk/work table, reading light, and additional shelf for storage.
Guests will have their own private bedroom with full-sized bed, complete with under-bed storage. It can comfortably sleep two people. There is a cozy reading corner with a work table, shelves for your personal items, and a rod for hanging your clothes. It is a small bedroom, with no closet, ideal for those who will mainly be using it for sleeping, so please be aware of that before booking.
The house is huge so you never feel cramped here. There are so many different spots to hang out and get comfortable. All of the house mates are very friendly. We are supportive of all kinds of different lifestyles and celebrate diversity and creativity.
We have two cats who are quite friendly as well. One might sit outside your door and cry for pets, sorry in advance! Also, we have a songbird in the dining room and a very sweet and silent dog who doesn't bark.
Please be aware that this house is over 100 years old and hasn't been remodeled. That is what adds to its charm, but can also make it seem a little run-down as well. This isn't a home from a Portland magazine spread, it is a lived-in, cozy, artsy home. We try to keep it very clean but if anything isn't up to your standard please let us know and we will address it immediately!
You will have access to two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a shower and tub, as well as clean towels. Guests are free to use the kitchen and any dishes that are needed as well as space in the refrigerator. The common areas in the house (living room, dining room, front porch, back porch, basement, back yard) are all open to the guests as well. Guests are also free to use the washer and dryer.
Interaction with Guests
The 4 adults who live in the house all have varying schedules. We are rarely all home at once. We are all very friendly and can offer suggestions and information about Portland. However, you probably won't interact with us for very long periods of time as we all have a lot going on much of the time.
This house is very centrally located with easy access to downtown via car, bike, or public transit. It is also within walking distance of the Alberta Arts district and the Mississippi neighborhood (two of the coolest spots in Portland full of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, clothing and goods shopping, and music venues). There are also two healthy grocery stores (New Season's and Whole Foods) within a short walk from the house. There is a large and beautiful city park literally 100 feet from the front door as well!
There are major bus lines on both ends of the street within a 1-2 minute walk in each direction.
We ask that our guests pick up after themselves, keeping the common areas clean. We do not charge an additional cleaning fee for the room so we ask that you leave it in good condition. Respect for the house and those who live there is a must!
Nice place to crash after exploring Portland. Shannon was nice and hospitable. Easy walk to public transit.
I had the best time at the wonderfully named Cuddlehaus. I didn't spend much time at the house - I was on a short vacation determined to see as much as possible, so I left early every morning and came back late each night. That said, it was SO easy to cone and go, especially with the 6 and 4 bus lines right down the street. The room/bathroom were clean and simple but cute and perfect for anyone looking for a short stay. The house is a little loud since the floors/walls are thin, BUT not enough to be an annoyance. I just made an effort to be quiet to be respectful to everyone else in the house. I didn't meet Shannon, but I did briefly meet Erin, who was extremely nice. Shannon was very helpful and kept great communication leading up to my stay. The bird and orange cat are quiet, and the brown cat is the friendliest cat I've ever met. I didn't spend a lot of time in the home's area, but I felt safe any time I walked to and from the buses, no matter the time, which was the most important to me since I was traveling alone. I recommended this house to EVERYONE and would love the chance to visit again.
Yes, yes, and yes. This home is even cozier than it looks! I am so grateful this was the selection I made! Shannon and Alex were both so helpful and welcoming. I even met another airbnb traveler staying in a second guest room down the hall and they too only had excellent feedback to give! Such a communal, comfortable home-away-from-home. I will be back!
The listing is quite accurate. The room is small but was fine for me. The bathroom across the hall is convenient and comfortable. Public transportation is good. I returned home after 10pm on a Friday and Saturday night and felt quite safe. The dog and cat were very welcoming.
The guest room in Shannon's place is really nice in overall very cool house. She and her housemates have good taste and it was pleasure to stay there, even for a short time like I did. Clean house and room, quiet neighbourhood, close to public transport for downtown and Airport/train station. Portland is very interesting place and a stay at Shannon's place definitely adds a nice touch to the experience.
I had a wonderful time staying at Shannon's. Although I was out and about most of the time, it was really comforting to come back to a home that is obviously loved and cared for. The other folks that live in the house struck a perfect balance between being welcoming and allowing each other to live our lives. I also have to admit that one of my favorite things was spending time with two of the most affectionate kitties I have ever met.
Lastly, the neighborhood is beautiful and walking/public transportation friendly.
