I enjoyed staying at this hostel. The price was worth it, and the location made it convenient for me to see the important places in Hong Kong. I definitely would like to stay here again.
I stayed at Man's place for 3 nights from 31st Jan till 3rd Feb, 2015. As advised by Man, I took the airport transfer bus A21 from the airport. A friend advised to disembark at Bank Centre station, which we did. However, we spent 2 hours getting lost and going round Argle Street and Nathan Street trying to locate the place as the building doesn't have a name and it was a crowded old area. Finally, I decided to head to Mongkok station, and exited at Exit E2 (information provided by previous borders). Once you've exited at Exit E2, walk straight till you see Sasa on your left and turn left. Building 89 is after the bakery cum char chan teng. We were expecting noises as it's just above Ladies Market but surprisingly it wasn't that bad. Probably because the market closes at midnight and vendors only set up about 9.30am, and we were too tired to notice the minimal fuss downstairs. The bed, pillow, blanket and towel were clean. Man's mother welcomed me (despite me being about 2 hours behind the estimated 'check in' time) and an old auntie stays in at night. I was told to approach Man's mother or the old auntie if I encounter problems with the room etc. There is no kettle for boiling water, so the room isn't too suitable for parents with children requiring hot drinks. I usually buy a big bottle of 1.5 litre of mineral water from the stall outside Exit E2 (HKD10/bottle). When I was lost, a kind vendor tried help me call Man on his mobile phone but it was unanswered. And when I tried to ask for directions to Building 89, I was either told 'don't know', ignored or being directed at merry-go-round. You may want a detailed/more helpful map from Man if you plan to walk over from Bank Centre station. The location of this stay is very convenient. Despite being advised by local friends that the area isn't very safe, I was comfortable heading back to the stay near midnight. Only 1 key (to the main door)/security tag (to the room) is given though there were 4 of us in a room. So, if you're travelling with your friends, do ensure that you plan to go out and return at the same time (especially so if you don't have international data roaming and don't wish to spend more on international calls). Wifi connection is quite stable so you may be able to connect with your friends or to check your mails when you're back in the stay. Only aircon is provided, not heating.
I was very delighted when I saw the place! It is exactly like the one in the photos. Prior to my stay here, I have heard horrors about how photos usually do not match with the actual location by friends so they told me to not expect too much. But this was a really good deal. The room is not only modern and well maintained, it was also clean. The sheets and mattress was simple but clean and comfy! I was impressed at the toilet. Many a times hostels do not really fair well in their toilets but the one that Man has was new and nice! Plus with the card key lock technology for the rooms, we felt very safe with our belongings in the room. One bonus about this room is that it is very well lit. Other than the fantastic room and toilet, the landlady was definitely one of my nicest host ever. We didn't speak cantonese, so we relied heavily on chinese. The landlady was still very hospitable though she is not fluent in the language. She assisted us even with getting around the city!
4ppl room with complete set of facility which is worth with the price and the cleanliness & tidiness would make you staying here comfortably.
Thanks to the friendly and kind host!
