About This Listing
We live in the historical centre of Modena, very near Piazza Duomo, Piazza Sant Agostino (where you can find the palace of museums) and close to the most important buildings for historical and artistic value. Our home is ancient and therefore has a special atmosphere, warm and comfortable. The hosts room is frescoed, it has two beds and disposes of one of the two bathrooms that we have in the house, with shower box. We have a big kitchen/ dining room (with traditional oven, microwave oven, plate for grill) in which our hosts can cook or share their meals with the family tasting good and health Italian cuisine in an atmosphere of conviviality and warm welcome. 5 minutes from home you can find a characteristic local market where you can buy any kind of food of the best quality (fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, dairy products, etc…). Our neighborhood is full of restaurants, pizzerie, pubs and bars where you can spend a evening listening music (live concerts if you’re lucky), and there’s also the famous Osteria Francescana of the chef Bottura.
We are in a very convenient location also for public transports: 10 minutes walk from the bus station (where you can take the bus for Bologna’s airport) and 5 minutes from the bus to the railway station. (Or, if you prefer, 15 minutes walk from the railway station.)
What makes our home and our hosts room special? The painted walls, the old furnishings and the informal and warm atmosphere.
rispetto educazione gentilezza: è ciò che i nostri ospiti troveranno a casa nostra e che ci aspettiamo da loro.
A stay in the Blue room in Modena was my first Airbnb experience and it just couldn't be better! Silvia and her husband Gaetano were wonderful and helpful. The room was spacious and comfy, situated in a historical building in the centre of Modena and from there it takes just 15 minutes to reach whatever part of the city you want. I went to Modena for a conference, but eventually I decided to pay for an extra day to go to Ferrari museums in Modena and Maranello - a must for every tourist who founds himself in Northern Italy. I warmly recommend Silvia as a host.
Silvia and her family are very hospitable. It was a pleasure to live in their home. We had everything we needed.
We had out of town, and Sylvia's husband drove us, it was very nice.
A stay at Silvia’s epitomizes the very best that anyone could hope for from an airbnb experience. Her husband, Gaetano, and her are devoted to the well-being of their guests; they will make you feel like a member of the family at once. Silvia generously provides tips on the best restaurants in Modena; you will profit from the very helpful advice she will share to make your stay in Modena memorable.
As it happens, and much to my chagrin, I showed up two hours late after the agreed-upon check-in time - the result of a missed train connection. Not only did Silvia fully understand and empathize, she actually. proceeded to bring me a tray filled with fruits and biscottis. Moreover, she had also left a number of bottles of water, a city map and a succinct guide to the city. On the eve of my departure, she had me over for lunch, and the following day, Gaetano, Silvia and I bid our farewells over a continental breakfast.
Did I mention that their inviting flat is ideally located in the Centro storico? A casual five-minute walk will take you to the impressive Duomo. Alluring coffee shops are less than a minute away. My room was absolutely lovely…had me wonder if I should not stay longer than a week (!)
As for Modena, it has all the attributes of what makes a foreigner fall in love with Italy: history, art, architecture, fabulous cuisine. The city has done an excellent job at keeping Modena a gem. And though it is a small city, it is located less than an hour train ride to Bologna, Parma and Reggio Emilia, ensuring that one gets a good glimpse of many parts of Emilia Romagna. Sadly (for them), Modena seems a bit overlooked by tourists, but with brilliant hosts like Silvia and Gaetano, this could very well change!
