The Space

IMPORTANT NOTE: You do not need to ask if the rental is available. The calendar tab above is accurate.

The studio apartment is private, and quiet. The retro modern apartment occupies the entire bottom floor of a 4 story private home. The home is on a street called Vista De Valle which translates into "Valley View" The house is on a hill overlooking Tennessee Valley in the Marin Headlands in the Golden Gate National Recreational Area. The windows look out towards trees and the hills of the Marin Headlands. The house is just a few doors down from the end of the street that opens up right up into the Marin Headlands. The apartment has its own separate entrance and staircase from the street. You have your own private deck outside your door. The tempurpedic style memory foam queen size bed is very comfortable. The bed is in it's own elevated space off the studio floor so the unit is more like a 1 bedroom because the studio space is clear and open with plenty of room even with a couch and dining set. The kitchen is well appointed to make any size meal. It has a gas stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven coffee machine, and full size refrigerator. The bathroom has a shower but no tub. The living area has a couch that could be slept on but would not be ideal for a tall person. For families with small children we offer a collapsible "Pak'N'Play" crib at no additional charge. We can also offer an additional inflatable double bed for larger groups.

You have your own private staircase on the other side of the house from our entrance. The staircase winds through a garden from the street above to your own private entrance on the bottom floor. You will be staying in a National Park with the same designation as a place like Yosemite or Yellowstone, yet you will only be a 10 minute drive from San Francisco. Walk out the door straight into the National Park and hike on any of the dozens of trails to the nearby beaches, valleys, the Golden Gate Bridge, and horse stables. The horse stables are just a 15 minute walk away. Sign up to ride a horse into the 10,000 acre National Park that will be your back yard. Hike to a spot where you can look down on the Americas Cup Yacht Races this summer. Easily drive or take public transit into San Francisco. If you work in San Francisco but would rather stay in a peaceful setting there is convenient public transit nearby to take you into the city. Go sailing or have a fantastic meal in Sausalito. Check out Muir Woods National Monument and Stinson Beach. Or drive 40 minutes north to the heart of the wine country to go wine tasting and take in the views. Mill Valley and Vista De Valle is located in a very convenient location to see both SF and the beauty surrounding it.

Guest Access

There is no shared space. You have your own private apartment and staircase on the other side of the house from our entrance. The staircase winds through a garden from the street above to your own private entrance on the bottom floor. You have access to our backyard and of course the National Park. You will have your own vacuum cleaner, iron, and ironing table. If you need laundry done just drop it off and our house cleaner/nanny will wash and fold your clothes for $10 per occurrence. She is here 4 days per week.

  • My wife and I just stayed here. This is a beautiful rental.

The property is set on a hilltop on the 101 just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is breezy and the air smells like Eucalyptus. In nearly every direction is a superb view of a forested valley and trails leading all over the place. The local towns supply plenty in terms of shopping, dining, and sightseeing.

The rental itself is a cozy studio with a well-appointed kitchen, bathroom, and living area with television. Rather than a bedroom, there is a bed alcove set up on a platform and the windows just across from it yield a sweeping view of the forest outside. The private staircase leading to the studio grant total privacy to the renters.

Overall, my wife and I loved this place. It was clean, safe, and secluded. Even so, we were able to tour Berkeley, took a day trip down into the City, and explored the little marinas to the north. One could also easily head up the 101 to the Redwoods or northeast to wine country. This place is ideally-suited for the die-hard tourist or for (like us) the introvert in search of rest and peace with the occasional outing.

Thank you Jesse and Marie! We hope to be back!

  • A struck of luck!

Tranquil neighborhood, stunning views, open-hearted neighbors and genuinely loving hosts: Jesse, Marie, Felix and Lenea (sp?). We couldn't have asked for better hosts — and new friends in Marin.

Boris and I are indeed grateful for our time together and look forward to more beach adventures and dinner parties. Hugs.

  • Wonderful location on a National Park. The studio is charming and private and was ideal for my two little puppies and I. Even though we didn't have a car, it's an easy walk down the hill to the store - even has a Whole Foods within a mile or so - and there's a great coffee spot at Tam Junction. Thoroughly enjoyable stay - and only a 10 minute drive to San Francisco. Thanks Jesse and Marie!

  • This place is amazing! The unit is a nice size and has everything you could need. And, especially if you're interested in the outdoors, the location is great. Picturesque hiking/biking trails are super close and we saw lots of wildlife in the area. Wild Turkeys right off our balcony and lots of deer. Also, Jesse and his wife were extremely friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.

  • This beautiful little place is steps from the most beautiful place I've been for a while - the Marin Headlands. A runner/hiker's paradise. Perfect for exploring Marin or commute into San Francisco on the Sausalito Ferry. Jesse (email hidden), we wished we could have stayed longer.

  • Location, location, location, Great spot for exploring MARIN Co. or daytrips to San Francisco. Spent 4 (website hidden). biked into Golden Gate National Park from the residence, (strenuous). Kayaked in Sausalito, (Seatrek), Mt. Biked the Marin Headlands in GGNP. Rode over the Golden Gate bridge to the AMERICA's Cup pavilion and park then took the Ferry back to Sausalito.

Very nice host. The studio was charming, clean and cozy.

This time of year, summer, we were on the fog line. Cool and Cozy on the hill yet sunny and clear 5 miles away on the water in Sausalito. When the sky cleared we could look across the valley to the trails we rode earlier in the day. In the evening we watched deer meander across the property while sipping wine on the deck.
