No matter what you’re looking for, Amsterdam is a shopper’s paradise. For those with more discerning taste, the city has an excellent selection of luxury shops, ranging from designer fashion houses to unique boutiques and custom-made items you won’t find anywhere else.
Exclusive shops in Amsterdam:
Part of the charm of the exclusive shopping experience in Amsterdam is the lovely neighbourhoods you’ll discover along the way. While a couple of high-end department stores are right in the centre, you’ll often need to wander past the tourist hotspots to discover amazing shops tucked in between more residential streets.
Named for the 17th-century poet and playwright Pieter Cornelisz Hooft, the P.C. Hooftstraat has been an exclusive shopping destination since the 1970s. Located near the Museumplein, this street is your first stop for big-name designers like Hugo Boss, D&G, MaxMara, Ralph Lauren, Hermes, Gucci and more. When it’s time for a break, grab a coffee and indulge in some great people-watching.
In the heart of the city centre, the Utrechtsestraat starts at the Rembrandtplein and crosses Amsterdam’s most famous canals. The street has a mix of shops, but gets more luxurious with each passing year. For example, the Netherlands’ first Marc by Marc Jacobs store will open at Utrechtsestraat 120 sometime in the near future. You’ll find designer fashion at Centre Neuf and Angel Basics, while Zwartjes van 1883 sells well-made leather shoes that will last a lifetime. For contemporary interior design, be sure to pay a visit to Mobilia.
The best way to get to the apartment:
From Schiphol Airport to Central Station by train:
- Once you have cleared customs and still in the airport, follow the signs to the train station, which is located underground of a big hall with high ceiling. Don’t forget first to buy the train tickets (the machines are yellow and next to the escalators – ask help if you need any assistance);
- From this hall, go down the escalators to the railway, but first find out on the boards above the escalators which train will take you to Central Station (Amsterdam Central or Amsterdam CS). The trip will take about 15 minutes if you take the fast train.
Direct from Schiphol Airport by taxi (the best way to start):
- Don’t take any taxi offered inside the airport hall. You can take a taxi directly in front of the main exit of the airport (TCA TAXI)

Brewery ’t IJ is is now one of the largest beer breweries in Amsterdam! You can try their specialty beers at a so called proeflokaal (tasting room) with sunny terrace. And what you find on the tap changes (website hidden) brewery ‘t IJ also brews beers in collaboration with other national and international breweries! Soon we can taste the result of the collaboration with the British brewery Thor Bridge.
For people who love wine:
With the idea of delicatessen bar Envy in mind, owner Bert van der Leden has created a new concept and Envy has a 'sister': Vyne. Whereas in Envy the central theme is the delicatessen, in Vyne the wines take centre stage.
In recent years the demand, interest and enthusiasm for the product wine has steadily increased. The catering industry, however, has not responded to this trend as well as it could. Meantime, in cafés where a beer can be served to perfection, the wine - if it is of good quality - is spoiled by use of the wrong glasswork or by being served at the wrong temperature. The choice of wine in general is very limited, and if offered at all, the advice given is incorrect due to lack of knowledge on the part of the personnel. It's high time for... Vyne!
Vyne has the atmosphere of a 'brown café', but then more suited to modern times. Where normally beer is the central theme, in Vyne it's all about wine. The traditional bitterball-type of snacks have been replaced by dishes of the same size, but of very high quality and originality prepared by the chefs of "big sister" Envy. Vyne is working together with the celebrated wine importer Vinites.
The renowned firm of architects Concrete has again been retained, this time to provide the designs for Vyne. Vyne comprises of two parts. On the right-hand side, the 'brown café', with oak floor, walls and ceiling and a long brown leather couch against the wall. This room is reminiscent of the classic French wines, the oak boards serving to give the impression that one is sitting in a wine vat. The left-hand side serves as a wine library, an entire wall of stainless steel parts completely full of wine bottles. The clinical look melds well with new wines from Chili, Africa en Australia; new wines that are often produced using modern technology. Long bar tables adorn the centre, providing a cosy, Burgundian and lively atmosphere and offering places for around 100 people. Vyne also offers a peek in the kitchen, which has a ‘chefs table’ where tastings can be held.
Vyne is located at Prinsengracht 411, close to the Westertoren in Amsterdam.

What a wonderful apartment. I especially loved the picture window with the view of the canal. The area (Jordaan) was charming and walkable from the apartment. To see other sites I recommend the Trams(easy to navigate). Everyone in Amsterdam was so friendly and helpful especially our host Herbert. He met us at the apartment and was just next door to assist. The transaction for the rental was easy and efficient. The apartment was situated in a quiet area. I would definately rent it again on a return visit.
We had a lovely stay at Carlos's clean and tidy flat in Amsterdam. It is well situated to walk to anywhere central and there is plenty to do nearby. Central station is about 10 mins walk to only a few minutes in an Uber. Highly recommended.
We had a very nice stay in Amsterdam. The appartment was clean and comfertable and very well located.
The host was very helpful and informative.
Thank you very much.
Herbert was a very kind and thoughtful host . He was punctual and helpful, and oriented us about all important aspects of tourism in Amsterdam - transport , tickets, queues , places to go / avoid , restaurants , markets. The apartment is perfect , on the first floor and with elevator in the building, in front the canal , and tram stop just 2 minutes from the (website hidden) (excellent monitor) with a lot of channels , 2 comfortable coach, one bedroom with a comfortable double bed too. Bathroom is beautiful, with a tube and shower, all necessary to a perfect bath. The kitchen is "almost " full - because there isn't a microwave ! But the oven is perfect ! Our time in Amsterdam was exceptional , partly because the Carlos' apartment. We will come back for sure!
Herbert the host is fantastic, accommodating & caring. The flat is clean, spacious & matches the posting. Herbert made a comfortable bed in the living room so my girlfriend & I each had our own sleeping area. Nicely renovated bathroom with a big tub.
The location is walkable to Anne Frank's House, Dam Square & Centaal Station.
I highly recommend the flat & would rent again in a heartbeat.
