Winster is a very attractive historic village, with many lovely old buildings. It is well known for its Morris Dancers, Pancake Races, Winster Wakes and Secret Gardens. Local amenities include two traditional village pubs which both serve food; a community-owned village shop and post office which stocks a wide range of fresh produce, including bread, milk, fruit, veg, newspapers and wine (all of which can be ordered for your visit); a local bus service to Bakewell and Matlock (links to trains); a medical centre; a very helpful car repair garage (no petrol); and last but not least - the National Trust's first property in Derbyshire - The Winster Market House, admission is free to this quaint old building which contains a model of the village, information about the history of Winster and a display about our Italian twin village of Monterubbiano.

No visit to Winster would be complete without a trip to nearby Chatsworth House. So much to do and see there, something for everyone. The Tudor gem, Haddon Hall is also a short drive from us. The nearest National Trust properties are Hardwick Hall and Keddleston Hall.

Nearby Carsington Water (email hidden) to walk, shop, relax, eat, bird-watch or take part in a range of water sports.

The towns of Bakewell, Matlock, Matlock Bath, Chesterfield, Buxton, Wirksworth and Ashbourne are all within easy reach and contain many interesting tourist attractions. There are also lots of lovely old villages to discover nearby, many within walking distance, each with its own unique character.

With a variety of beautiful walks right from the doorstep, there is no need to take the car out, if you don't want to. We are also close to the many wonderful (traffic-free) cycle paths which can be found in the Peak District, where you can hire bikes. Access to the nearest cycle path, the High Peak Trail, is approx. 2 miles away. Indoor swimming pool and gym facilities are available at the new Arc Matlock Leisure Centre (approx 5 miles).

If you would like to stay in an interesting, quiet and relaxing village, with lots to see and do nearby, then we would love to welcome you to Honeyspot Cottage.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • A beautiful, homely cottage with lovely hosts. The house had everything we could have needed and Alistair and Chris were very welcoming and helpful, we would highly recommend staying with them :)

It's a pretty village with great countryside around for cycling, walking and all sort of outdoors-y things. Two nice pubs within a short walk too.

  • We spent three wonderful days in Honeyspot Cottage. It was idyllic. The cottage is quiet and very well appointed. The location is quirky and the village is lovely. Chris and Alistair are very friendly and so kind. We couldn't have wished for better hosts or a nicer experience.

  • We had a great weekend stay at Honeyspot Cottage. The cottage was sweet and comfortable and the village was lovely. The cottage (email hidden) to come back to after days of sightseeing in the Peak District. Highly recommend!

  • We had a lovely time staying I'm Winter. We were lucky to have amazing weather and to the the village in its full glory. We ate most of our meals outside in the little garden.

The cottage is cute and cosy, there is a place for everything and so does not feel small. The kitchen is well stocked and there was a good supply of books, maps and films

Alistair and Christine were unimposing, although were close by and willing to help.

  • Honeyspot Cottage is in a great location, also very peaceful. It (email hidden) to stay for our visits to Chatsworth House and Keddleston Hall. We took advantage of the weather and sat in the garden opposite the cottage with a glass of wine and some nibbles.
We felt as though we were on holiday even though we were only away for the weekend.
Thank you Christine for your friendly welcome and loan of hairdryer.
    Regards, Jean and Hannah.

  • Honeyspot cottage was absolutely perfect, spotless and very comfortable. We loved our stay - the perfect accommodation for a rainy weekend where a lovely fire and night on the sofa was necessary after walks! Great location, nice pub down the road if you don't want to drive out of the village and lots of towns nearby good for days out and starting points for walks. An excellent weekend was had, thanks to Alistair and Chris!

  • My boyfriend and I spent two wonderful nights at honeyspot over Easter 2014. It was an absolutely charming cottage in a very quaint village. All as described or better. A perfect romantic escape. We would not hesitate to recommend to others or stay here again ourselves. All amenities that are needed were provided or available in the nearby village shop. We found winster as a village much nicer to stay in and as base for hiking rather nearby and better known bakewell, which was overrun by tourists.

  • Christine and Alistair were welcoming and lovely hosts! The ease of communication to accommodating our arrival times made the experience and stay at Honeyspot Cottage even better. The cottage itself was clean, welcoming and felt like a home away from home- just what was needed! Thank you and would definitely come back! Great location too!

  • We had a very lovely time at the Honeyspot Cottage.
The cottage was very cosy with its stone walls and its fire place. We very much enjoyed our stay in the village (very friendly people, very nice pub and an unique village shop) and can highly recommend it. Alistair and Christine prepared and arranged everything very perfectly and the cottage is fitted with everything you need for a relaxing weekend escape. There was even the first James Bond movie on DVD!
