An original, restored 1925 Arts & Crafts Cottage in beautiful Paupack PA! Follow us on IG for weekly photos, updates and more! (the1925cottage)

The space
An original 1925 Lake Wallenpaupack home… before there was even a Lake Wallenpaupack! The 1925 Cottage is one of the original five homes built by the Gumble brothers, founders of Gumble Brothers Lumber and builders of many classic and sought after homes in the area.

This classic arts and crafts home has been completely restored with historic accuracy throughout, while updated for modern living and comfort.

A two story home with original wood floors throughout, ceramic tile in the bathroom and kitchen, granite counter tops the kitchen, all original and restored woodwork, stone fireplace and wavy glass windows with storm windows/screens to let in the clean mountain air.

Simply put, we are a fully appointed four season home you can enjoy year round along with all the Delaware River Valley and Poconos have to offer! We are perfect for families looking to get away... but we are not a party house, nor setup to accommodate eight individuals each needing their own bed or bedroom. All we ask you show the cottage as much love during your visit, as we did while restoring it.

We are literally *surrounded* by outdoor activities! You’re anywhere between walking distance and 30 minutes drive from swimming, hiking, mountain biking, waterfalls, golf, skiing, antiquing, hunting and more! Fishing is year round on Lake Wallenpaupack or numerous nearby lakes, rivers and streams including the Lackawaxen with its excellent fly fishing opportunities. There is great antiquing as well in and around Hawley, with directions to some of our favorites included in your Welcome Pack!

While we are not lakefront, guests have access in-season to a canoe that is moored at beautiful Upper Lake in Promised Land State Park (about 15 minute drive away). Upper Lake is stocked with brook, brown and rainbow trout. A trout stamp is required to fish in these waters. Directions to the canoe, life vests and paddles are provided.

Looking for a little R&R? There's firewood for use of the fireplace, an outdoor propane grill, access to Wi-Fi and internet TV, ample books and magazines, writing desks in the downstairs bedroom and sun room, and multiple cozy locations for sleeping the day away.

The kitchen is fully outfitted with everything you need to cook, bake or simply have coffee while sitting at the island enjoying the view of the yard. Granite counter tops, (propane) gas stove, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator and a multitude of utensils, plates, glasses, bowls and more. Not interested in cooking? No worries! There are numerous dining opportunities, from coffee shops to pizza takeout to five stars, all within a short drive. Directions for the local grocery store, markets and seasonal farmers market will be provided.

Each of the four bedrooms has a queen size bed with extra pillows and blankets. Two zone central air conditioning and ceiling fans in the bedrooms and living room will keep you cozy when the weather is warm. We also provide sheets, bath and hand towels.

The downstairs full bathroom is complete with cast-iron claw foot tub for a long, quiet and peaceful bath or shower. Upstairs is a half bath, and larger full bath that includes a shower room and another claw foot tub.

On arrival you’ll receive your Welcome Pack listing our favorite restaurants, shops, hikes, waterfalls, coffee shops, shopping, activities and more throughout the area. We’ve also included directions to some of our favorite drives and destinations! You’ll feel like a local before you know it ; )

Lastly, please review the map included with our listing to note we are located on the North side of Route 507, facing Route 507. Again, this means we are *not* lakefront.

Where you’ll be

Paupack, Pennsylvania, United States

Lake Wallenpaupack the third largest freshwater lake in Pennsylvania measuring 52 miles of shoreline, 13 miles in length, 60 feet deep at points, with excess of 5,700 acres of surface water. It was created in 1926 by PPL, the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company, for hydroelectric purposes as well as flood control. The Lenape Indians named the area "Wallenpaupack" which means "The Stream of Swift and Slow Water." William Penn later owned the land and then deeded it to his son, who then gave it to James Wilson one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Enjoy boating, swimming and fishing access in the summertime, as well as ice skating and ice fishing in the winter. Its wooded shoreline also provides opportunities for hiking and viewing wildlife. Lake fish include smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, bluegill, walleye, muskellunge, northern pike, pickerel, rainbow trout, brown trout, lake trout, catfish and yellow perch. Striped bass and hybrid striped bass have been stocked in the lake.

Ray is a Philly born, New Jersey raised renovation nerd and remodel addict with a degree in Graphic Design. As a long-term home owner in Paupack PA, just off Lake Wallenpaupack, Ray had an opportunity to purchase the home two doors away in desperate need of saving, which turned into his first listing in 2015… The 1924 Bungalow. Luck found him able to purchase the home between his and the bungalow, and after an extensive remodel The 1925 Cottage was listed in 2016. Next up, the former Paupack School, just to the left of the Bungalow where one of two former classrooms are now converted into loft spaces available for rent as of 2021. Ray’s been a Super Host since 2015, is passionate about the upper Delaware River Valley and sharing these eclectic, historic homes with his guests.
