Once an art gallery in a traditional Kyoto machiya, now a cozy, spacious guesthouse — ideal for those seeking a creative, authentic Kyoto stay off the tourist track.
The space
Before you book, I’d like to be honest about a few things, just to make sure this home is the right fit for you 😊
❗Things to Note Before Booking:
1. Location
The house is located in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto — not in the city center.
There’s not nearby JR or subway station, However, there are bus stops within walking distance:
• “Kenryu-koumae (乾隆校前)” is about 6 minutes away,
• and “Kamishichiken (上七軒)” is about 7 minutes away.
Both stops offer direct bus access to Kyoto Station, making it convenient to get around without a train.
The beautiful Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is just a 6-minute walk, and the famous Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) is 15 minutes on foot.
2. Traditional Layout
This house used to be a machiya-style gallery, so the layout can feel a bit unconventional.
• If you’re a group of 3 or more guests, please note that the third and fourth guests will sleep in the tatami room on the 1st floor.
• This room is a pass-through space to the bathroom and toilet, so other guests will walk through it, which may affect privacy.
3. Noise Sensitivity
The house is directly on a street, but it’s not a major road — traffic is light and usually not disruptive.
I’m sorry to start with the downsides — but I truly want your time in Kyoto to be filled with beautiful memories. If you’re still reading — thank you! And if you feel comfortable with the above, here’s what makes this place special:
• Spacious Living & Dining Area
Plenty of room to relax on the sofa, enjoy meals, or fully open your suitcase — perfect for longer stays or group travelers.
• Real Local Kyoto Life
Since we’re away from the tourist-heavy city center, you’ll experience an authentic, peaceful side of Kyoto — with shrines, small shops, and quiet streets.
• A Touch of Comfort & Convenience
The house is equipped with thoughtful amenities to make your stay more relaxing — including a capsule coffee machine, microwave, electric kettle, washing machine and even a small traditional courtyard garden where you can enjoy a moment of peace.
If this sounds like the kind of Kyoto stay you’re looking for, I’d love to host you!
Other things to note
Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the house and in the surrounding area. If anyone in your group smokes, please refrain from booking this property.
This house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. Please be respectful of our neighbors by keeping noise to a minimum, especially during the evening and early morning. Parties, loud music, and any activities that may disturb the neighborhood are not permitted. Thank you for helping us maintain a peaceful environment for everyone.
