Beautiful and festive studio in the Yosemite foothills.
Studio has a tree-house feel, beautiful views of the oak, pines here in the Yosemite foothills, and is decorated festively in keeping with the vacation-get-away theme here. It is the only apartment upstairs from the upscale Spanish home below it so has lots of privacy and is away from my pets. If you are a fun person, love color and a very quiet but cheerful, light and airy surrounding, this is for you!
There is a full kitchen and a counter with stools to eat at, a microwave and large refrigerator, a stove and range. It has a Mexican tile mural above the range, and a view of the courtyard and fountain below, which you will hear running from time to time. There is also a full bath with custom tile, a shower/tub, and a combo living room/bedroom with a brand new queen-sized bed and also a new single futon. Two nice bonuses are it now has newer carpet, and a covered balcony with small table and chairs overlooking the meadow, and a little further away my neighbor's pasture where their Appaloosa horses (and my one motley rescue sheep) eat. This is a great place to chill, have a glass of wine and/or a cigarette on the balcony (there is no smoking in the room itself, and please shut room's front door while smoking on the balcony), listen to the tinkling windchimes hanging from a logpole above you, and enjoy the (usual) afternoon breeze. Bring a book (or Kindle), and/or study, watch the occasional deer stroll by, squirrels playing, cotton-tail rabbits, ravens, and lots and lots of birds with their beautiful songs. The only drawbacks here is that you must climb 1 flight of stairs to get to this unit, and there isn't much storage space - has only a small closet.
Distance from the Yosemite entrance is approx. 30 miles, which takes betw 40-60 minutes to drive, depending on traffic. The Gate is very close to the Mariposa Grove (huge Sequoia trees), 10-15 mi. to the Wawona area next to the Merced River with its covered bridge, and museum of Old West homes and artifacts. From there it is another 30 min. approx. to the Yosemite Valley or Glacier Point.
The studio has lots of brochures about Yosemite, which includes large maps showing where all the waterfalls, hiking trails, etc., are, and also info on Bass Lake, which is only 25 miles away from my house. You can rent boats, hike, or even swim there.
I live downstairs and am usually home and available to talk or chat with if you are interested in getting to know a local. I am a warm, friendly host and enjoy meeting and talking with guests, so if you'd like to chat or have some questions about the area or whatever, just ring my doorbell :-) I also respect those who just want their privacy, so don't feel obligated to visit the main house if that's not for you.
My home is in a country setting with lots of oak, pines and huge, ancient boulders on the property. It is normally a very quiet place to chill out and relax. I also have some historic remnants of a very rough "Chinese Wall" made during the Gold Rush days (1800s) when miners panned the creek at the bottom of my 5-acre property. I will be happy to show you where that is if you are interested in seeing it.
Groceries are available at a market in downtown Coarsegold, about 5 miles further north on Hwy 41, and the big supermarkets, sporting goods stores, restaurants, etc., are in Oakhurst, which is about 15 miles from my house, also further north on Hwy 41. It's a good idea to bring some groceries with you so you won't have to go shopping when you arrive. Or, there is a large casino just 5 minutes away that has a huge buffet, noodle bar, 50's cafe, and regular restaurant with great food.
Finally, there is a washer and dryer available in the garage for your convenience during day-time hours.
I look forward to your visit!
Sorry but this is the country and there is no available public transit.

I can't say enough good things about Ginger's studio. I was looking for a quiet, relaxing place where I could be surrounded by nature and work on the last draft of my book, and that's exactly what I got. The birdsong, the bunnies and quail and ground squirrels scampering around the place -- it was heavenly. Ginger was an extremely kind and caring host, and expressed concern that some far-off mowing noise was interrupting my reverie. It didn't, not one bit, but I appreciate her asking and doing what she could to guard my time and privacy. I also really appreciate the little touches -- the fresh flowers around the studio, breakfast on the first day, a tour of all the places to walk on the property. To cap it all, when there was confusion about how many nights I'd booked, she comped me an extra night.
I'll definitely be back, so be sure only to book it on the weekends I don't go! :)
If you're debating on whether you should spend $10-20 less per night and opt for a motel in the area we'd advise you against it because the value of our stay far exceeded the cost that we paid. Our experience was not limited to Yosemite, much of the enjoyment also came from staying in this wonderful place with our wonderful hosts Ginger and Michael. Their property is a large and lush landscape of trees, bushes, wildflowers, boulders, and a stream that runs just beyond their fenceline. This gorgeous scenery populated with curious squirrels and exotic birds, We even joked that we were just gonna hang out there and skip the whole Yosemite thing, it's THAT good. The first morning, Ginger took us to the fenceline to feed her neighbors horses with the complimentary carrots and invited us into her home to give us a brief rundown of the area, places to shop and eat and sites to visit. Ginger and Michael were extremely warm and genuinely made us feel like we were more than strangers while giving us space and leaving their door wide open to us. Our room felt like a home away from home and there was absolutely no awkwardness in settling in, it felt like 'ours' for that brief time, like we had moved in together in a new town. While it is 30 miles from Yosemite it's a beautiful town to drive through where you can pick up all of the amenities for your stay, refuel, and explore the local shops. At night there is such a stillness in the air that isn't common to our usual surroundings and the sky is so clear. We relaxed with the heater on, watched movies on our computer (wifi included) and slept like babies. We aren't even curious about where we could have stayed or might stay next time, the only thing we're curious about is the other rooms they have available on their property and when we're going to visit them again. We express our deepest gratitude for their hospitality, we had a great time connecting with these two amazing individuals. Thank you Ginger and Michael!
Ginger's place is a one-of-a-kind scenic country getaway that combines all the comforts and amenities of home, while offering a taste of the rustic bounty of the Yosemite foothills. The property itself is a unique and scenic destination, built in an hacienda style with a courtyard and several different units available to travelers, perfect for larger groups and couples alike. Mornings begin with the chatter of songbirds and the tinkling of wind chimes. Evenings reveal a star-lit sky, clear enough that constellation spotting is easy.
The studio is well furnished. The kitchen is equipped with pots, pans, kettles, dishes, utensils, snacks etc. The bathroom has ample towels and toiletries. There is a heater if you need it. The wifi is fast. There's not much more that you can ask for.
The best part of the experience is Ginger's hospitality. She goes the extra mile to ask about your wishes and provide a well-curated list of recommendations on sights to see and things to do. My boyfriend and I spent the day in the Yosemite, following the map that Ginger highlighted for us. It was so easy to follow her guided tour for an enjoyable Yosemite adventure!
Ginger's place seems to be a great destination year-round. Although March is considered "off-season" for the Yosemite, I found it to be the perfect weather (sunny, mid 60's) for hiking. I would imagine winter would be an equally nice time to visit.
I definitely recommend Ginger's place for a relaxing vacation!
Ginger and Michael are wonderful hosts and lovely people who were very gracious to me. The house is a very sweet, calm and quiet place in Coarsegold. The tree house is amazing! Michael traveled and Ginger made me feel like family in the time that I stayed with her and she was very informative about the area and the Yosemite Park. I had very good conversations about rock and roll, technology, travels and about life!!! I'm pretty sure that I did a good friend for my life. I will stay there again, for sure (hope soon).
I echo all the positive feedback here so far. Ginger and Michael are wonderful hosts and this treehouse-like sanctuary was perfect. The second day we were there it rained all day and we decided to stay in, just cooking food and watching movies. It was great. Ideal place for a cozy retreat!
A lovely place during our Yosemite weekend trip! We stayed here for two nights, and the courtyard room was cozy and had everything we needed. Ginger was a wonderful host--veryknowledgeable about the area/Yosemite and and had tons of great recommendations for us to explore during our stay. :)
i prefer to add helpful/critical information to my reviews on airbnb so the traveller can make a good decision. in this case, this studio was a gem for the price - plain and simple. if you are visiting the area/Yosemite then this is a great home base. if the distance to yosemite is an issue realize that the property itself that this is on is a 'destination'. its also not that much further then staying in a motel in oakhurst. horses to feed, friendly cats and and wide open beautiful space. owner has set things up to feel tranquil and peaceful. the 2nd story studio is private, quiet with everything you need. gets great sun on the patio all day. wifi was good, bed comfortable, kitchen clean... if you want a peacful place to stay stay here - you might opt to spend the whole day on the property. i felt lucky to have found it and that i decided not to stay in a more expensive run down motel. the owner is very nice and cares about your stay and has a good heart for the animals and land.
Ginger was such a great host! She offered to cancel without charge, because Yosemite Park was closed. But when we told her, we would come anyway, she put so much effort into finding other hikes for us. She even went to the Visitor Center to get more information.
We enjoyed our stay in her studio very much. It was so quiet and peaceful and we could watch the wildlife from the balcony.
In the studio you find everything you might need for a short or a longer stay. We can highly recommend this place - even if the park is closed.
We had a lovely stay with Ginger. To be able to wash clothes and use the kitchen to make some homemade meals was great. The quiet surroundings, the birds and pets were wonderful. A bit of a drive to Yosemite, but it was a great base. Clean, comfy and a super friendly hostess, I would not hesitate to stay again. Thanks!
We had a great time in the studio. It has all the amenities you will need. A good bed, a nice bathroom and a kitchen to cook yourself a meal. We also enyoed sitting at the balcony. Ginger is a good host. See knows a lot about Yosemite and because she asks every guest about their experiences in the park, she will also know the current conditions. There are a lot of animals walking in the yard...deer, quail, cats. It's a 8 minute drive to Oakhurst. It was a great stay.
